Edna Velez

Edna Perez Velez, a fiercely loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and endless love. Born in Sonora, Texas, she was the daughter of Alfredo Sr. and Elena Perez. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ester.

She is survived by her husband Ruben and their four children: David, Elena, Veronica, and LeAnna. Her love lives on in her grandchildren—Xavier, Kennadi, Layla, Gabriel, and Leah—as well as her great-grandson, Matteo. She also leaves behind her sons-in-law Ray Reyes and David Cortinez, her brothers Alfredo Jr., Roberto, and Oscar, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Edna was a woman of deep faith, a strong believer in the power and protection of all the Saints. Her sense of humor was all her own—sharp, warm, and unforgettable. She had a feisty spirit that lit up every room she walked into and a deep love for her family that never wavered.

She was the heart of her home, a steady presence through every storm, and the one who made sure her family always felt loved, protected, and proud of where they came from.


Viewing will be held from Wednesday, April 9 through Friday, April 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church.


Edna will be deeply missed, but her love, her light, and her unshakable spirit of hope will carry on through every life she touched.

Betty Sue Garmon

Betty Sue Garmon of Wall, Texas, age 72, took her last breath on Earth and her first breath in Heaven on April 6, 2025. Betty Sue passed peacefully in her sleep at home.

Betty Sue was born on March 26, 1953 in San Antonio, to Eddie and Martha Ann Roberts. Her father passed away when she was six weeks old. Her Mother, Martha Ann, lovingly raised Betty Sue with the assistance of her Hudgeons Family and the people of Town East Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. From these two important groups in Betty Sue’s life, came numerous cousins and lifelong friends. She was a 1971 graduate from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas

It was through a church friend that she met Jim Garmon. Jim and Betty Sue were married on June 8, 1979. Jim and Betty Sue settled in Uvalde, TX and later moved to the family home place in Wall, TX in 1988. Jim and Betty Sue were married for 37 years before Jim passed in 2016.

Betty Sue worked as a secretary at the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce. Upon moving to Wall she worked as an attendant at the Wall Co-Op Gin and later as a Teacher’s Aide at Veribest ISD. In 1994, Betty Sue started her dream job at Wall High School. Betty Sue served the students of Wall ISD as a Teacher’s Aide for 18 years until her retirement in 2012. She then served as a substitute teacher for many years. She loved the students and faculty of Wall ISD. They became her second family.

Betty Sue is survived by her son Travis Garmon, his wife Kaci, their sons Jarrett and Jensen and daughter Jai Garmon of Wall, TX; son Clayton Garmon and his wife Brittany, their daughter Kenzie and son Klaytin of Wall, TX; her special cousin and travelling buddy Geraldine Harbin of Wall, TX and numerous cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Jim Grady Garmon; her mother Martha Ann Roberts and her father Eddie Roberts.

Betty Sue was known as “Honey Bee” to her five grandchildren. She loved cheering for them at their events, travelling with them, and spoiling them at every opportunity.

Betty Sue was a long-time member of Veribest Baptist Church where she loved being a part of the Veribest Women’s Ministry. Betty Sue also enjoyed being an Aggie Mom and getting together with the Bunco Crew.

Betty Sue was a true fan of the Wall Hawks. She loved the community of Wall and truly “Bled Green”. Long after her sons had graduated, Betty Sue travelled all over the state to watch the Hawks. In honor of Betty’ Sue’s love for the Wall Hawks, the family encourages those attending her service to wear Wall Hawk Green.

Pallbearers will be Brian Halfmann, Dan Reed, Duane Killam, Donald Harbin, Houston Guy and Brandon Langdon. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Family visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 am on Friday April 11, 2025 at the Wall Brethren Church with Brother Charlie Ray and Brother David Templin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wall Protestant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers/plants, the family kindly requests sending donations to the Wall Education Foundation, 8065 Loop 570, Wall, Texas 76957.

Michael Dean Mitchell, Sr.

Michael Dean Mitchell, Sr., 79, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on April 4th, 2025. He was born on July 30, 1945, in Champaign, Illinois, to Gus Theodore Mitchell and Lucille Minas Mitchell, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mike was a devoted husband to Susan Mitchell, whom he married on September 14, 1968, in Birmingham, Michigan. Together, they built a life filled with love and family. He was a proud father to his son, Michael Dean Mitchell, Jr., and daughter- in-law, Brooke Mitchell, and a cherished grandfather to Colby, Cooper, Cason, and Carleigh Mitchell.

Mike is also survived by his siblings: Cynthia Gabriel, James Mitchell, Leon Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, Karen Lakämper, and Jason Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Theodore and Sophia Mitchell, and Minas and Katherine Maxouris.

Mike was also blessed with close friendships that became like family. Shon and Melissa Jones and Thomas and Ursulla Hodge held a special place in his heart and in the life of the Mitchell family. Their decades of friendship, laughter, and unwavering support were a treasured part of Mike’s journey.

Mike graduated from Ferris State College in 1968, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the National Guard and served honorably in the Michigan and California Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974.

In 1969, Mike began his professional career and dedicated 18 years to Pontiac Motor Division before pursuing his dream of business ownership. He purchased Schuch Motor Company on December 7, 1987, and Heritage Buick-GMC on December 7, 1996. This formed Mitchell Automotive Group, known today as Mitchell Toyota and Mitchell Buick-GMC. Mike’s dedication to customer service and community involvement made a lasting impact.

Mike served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Automobile Dealer Association, San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and Crime Stoppers.

Throughout Mike’s life, he remained devoted to supporting the military, and he played an active role at Goodfellow Air Force Base. In recognition of his contributions, he was named an Honorary Chief Master Sergeant in 1993 and became an honorary Command Chief Master Sergeant in 2006.

Through Mitchell Automotive Group, Mike facilitated tens of thousands of toy donations to children in need as part of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots. His generosity and commitment to giving back made a meaningful difference in the lives of many, particularly among veterans and military families.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the employees, past and present, of Mitchell Automotive Group for their years of dedication, hard work, and unwavering support, which helped make Mike’s vision become a reality and continue his legacy.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to all the caregivers who provided exceptional care and support during Mike’s final days. Their kindness and dedication were greatly appreciated.

The Mitchell family will be hosting a celebration of Mike’s life at Southland Baptist Church on April 13th, 2025 at 2:00 PM.

Frances Jaso

Frances E Jaso 65 of San Angelo Tx formerly of Hereford, passed away on Tuesday April 1st, 2025, in San Angelo. 

Frances was born April 7th, 1959, to Joe Cruz Ellis and Betty Rogers in Lubbock. Frances had the biggest heart. She was a caregiver for many years. She met and took care of many people that became family to her. Frances was a very hard worker. Frances was a faithful servant; she never lost faith in God. Frances was a true blessing to a lot of people and had a heart full of love for everyone she met. Frances would go out of her way to help anyone that needed it. Frances loved watching her Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and worshipping our Lord. She loved her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Her biggest Love in life was her son Samuel and granddaughters Lexxa and Addison. A mother's love will never end. It is there from beginning to end.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband Albert Jaso of San Angelo, Son Samuel and wife Roxann Ellis, two granddaughters Lexxa Storm and Addison Jade all of Olton, three sisters Lupe and Rita Ellis of Lubbock, Betty Stella Jaso of Amarillo. three brothers Adam Ellis of Lubbock, David and wife Danielle Ellis, Jeremiah and wife Blanca Jaso all of Amarillo and many loved nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Joe Cruz and Betty Ellis, Grandson Miken Austin Ellis, two brothers Joe Cruz Ellis Jr, Elias Ellis Five sisters Annice Cardenas, Dorothy Garcia, Linda Gonzales, Betty E Torres, Eva Ellis, Three nephew Joe Jaso Jr, Mathew Garcia, Steven Ray Robinson, two nieces Anna Marie Jones, Pearl Marisa Ellis.

Matthews "Matt" Brown

Matthews "Matt" Brown was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and follower of Jesus. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he lived a life full of faith, kindness, and generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Known for his kindheartedness from an early age, Matt was protective of his siblings and formed lifelong friendships with those he played alongside on Pine Hollow in Houston. His contagious laugh and warm spirit brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Matt knew he wanted to be a rancher, a dream sparked when he was just 11 years old. Spending summers on the beloved Lambshead Ranch in Albany, Texas, he learned the value of hard work—something that defined his character and life. Matt became a lifelong rancher, raising Beefmaster cattle and meat goats, and his love for ranching was unwavering. A proud graduate of Texas Tech University, he also enjoyed cheering on Texas Tech football. His appreciation for all of God's creation was evident in everything he did, from his passion for fishing to the care he gave to his land and livestock.

Not only was Matt passionate about ranching, he also had a love for surfing—an uncommon pairing for someone who became so dedicated to life as a rancher. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was boundless, whether he was hunting, fishing, surfing or working the land. Matt especially loved taking his granddaughters around the ranch, showing them wildlife and livestock, and teaching them how to shoot and fish. These moments brought him great joy and exemplified his love for nature and the world around him.

Matt served his community as a dedicated county commissioner for 14 years and was a longtime resident of Eldorado, Texas. He faithfully attended the Presbyterian Church of Eldorado, where his commitment to his faith and community shone brightly. His love for Jesus guided his actions and inspired those around him. Matt will be remembered for his laughter, generosity, and steadfast devotion to his loved ones, his faith, and the ranching way of life he cherished.

Matt was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Christy; his three children— Courtney Snyder and husband Chad and their daughters Phoebe, Poppy, and Palmer, Lauren Stewart and husband Ryon and their daughters Meryn, Berkeley, and Annemarie and Wes Brown and wife Macy and their daughters Ruby and Tessa. He is also survived by his mother Susan Judd Brown, sister Ardon Brown Armstrong and husband Tobin Armstrong, Jr, brother John Overton Brown and wife Georgia Carter and many nieces and nephews. Matt was preceded in death by his sister Rebecca Brown Hutcheson and his father Joseph C. Brown.

Matt’s life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and love, and his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed.

Matt’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 11th, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Eldorado. A family burial will follow at Lambshead Ranch.

Nina Gayle Michum

Nina Gayle Michum, 82, of Rankin passed Friday, April 4, 2025.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Rankin United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2024 at Rankin Cemetery with Pastor Scott Melton, chaplain with Hospice of San Angelo, officiating.

Nina was born on July 9, 1942 to JB and Edith Pettit. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1960. On December 30, 1961, she married Gerald "Dick" Richard Michum. He passed away on April 9, 1989.

Through the years Nina was a well-known babysitter for many of Rankin's children. In 1981 she began working at the Rankin County Hospital and retired in 2007. She spent many years chasing and supporting her grandchildren and all their friends. She was a die-hard Red Devil fan. Nina adored her great grandchildren.

Nina was preceded in death by one son, James Rufus Michum; her husband; her parents; a sister, Marie Plott, and a brother, Jim Pettit.

Her survivors include two sons, Danny Michum and wife Daun of Rankin and Paul Michum and wife Miera of Eden; a granddaughter, Baleagh Selman and her husband Bo of Rankin; two grandsons, Dalton Michum and wife Alyssa of Rankin and Westin Michum of Eden; a great granddaughter, Arley Selman of Rankin; four great grandsons, Colby Selman, Boyce Selman, Kasen Michum and Bodi Michum all of Rankin; and many nieces and nephews.

Michael E. Fullen

Michael E. Fullen, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home at Lake Coleman, Texas, on April 2, 2025. He was born on October 9, 1945, in Coleman, Texas, to Howard Irvin Fullen and Evelyn Louise Mercer Fullen. Michael lived a life marked by hard work, family devotion, and a love for the outdoors.

Michael dedicated many years of his career to working as a lineman, displaying a strong work ethic throughout his professional journey. He was employed by the Coleman County Electric Cooperative, followed by the Hamilton County Electric Cooperative, and ultimately served for many years with the Concho Valley Electric Cooperative, from which he eventually retired. In 2011, after his retirement, Michael and his wife, Martha, moved to Lake Coleman, where they continued to build cherished memories together.

Their love story began on January 18, 1975, when Michael and Martha exchanged vows in her grandmother's home near Valera. Together, they celebrated 50 years of marriage, a milestone that reflects the deep bond they shared. Michael was a devoted husband and father, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his wife Martha Fullen, son Michael Fullen, Jr. and his wife Lucille, son Eric William Fullen and his wife Heather, and son Edward Duane Fullen. His grandchildren, Kolt Fullen, Ethan William Fullen, and Allison Renee Fullen, along with his great-granddaughter Mikaiah Fullen, brought immense joy to his life, as did his two step-grandchildren.

Beyond his family life, Michael upheld a sense of duty and honor through his military service. He served with pride in the United States Army, specifically in the esteemed 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, where he faced significant challenges and became a 100% disabled veteran due to exposure to Agent Orange.

Michael's personality shone brightly among family and friends, known for being hardworking, kind, and friendly. His interests spread beyond work; he enjoyed fishing, reading, and taking care of his yard, activities that brought him peace and fulfillment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Evelyn Fullen and brothers Richard Fullen and Eddie Fullen.

Michael E. Fullen’s graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Talpa Cemetery Pavilion in Talpa, Texas, on April 7, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Walter Williams of Eastland, officiating. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Betsy Sikes

Betsy Sikes of Pecos, Texas passed away at the age of 73 on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Odessa Regional Medical Center. 

She was born on February 4, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas to Geraldine and L.B.T. Sikes. Her two older brothers David and Richard welcomed her to the family.

Betsy attended school in Ozona and graduated with the class of 1970. While a student at Ozona High School, she participated in many extracurricular activities. Tennis and basketball were her favorites. She later went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biology from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. She then began her lifetime career as a teacher and coach for Pecos Barstow Toyah Independent School District. As a high school science teacher and girls coach, Betsy held high expectations for her students and athletes, as well as for herself as a role model, going above and beyond to help all students. Betsy retired after faithfully teaching for 34 years. Even in retirement, Betsy diligently and thankfully responded to the call to tutor students at both the high school and junior high levels.

Betsy taught herself how to play golf while in Pecos at the short course in Pyote, Texas. She loved golf and coached several student golfers. She spent many years playing in various golf tournaments across West Texas and the Permian Basin. She won several ladies golf association city championships. Betsy played in numerous local and regional golf tournaments, competing as an individual as well as partnering with the young and old, men and women, carrying them to multiple victories with her ever-reliable golf skills and entertaining them with her great sense of humor.

Graveside services will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2 pm at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice that supports cancer or heart research and health. The family would also like to thank Odessa Regional Medical Center and Betsy’s best friends Tina Rhoads and Elizabeth Jones Upham who were her sisters in Christ and were always by her side. 

Betsy is preceded in death by her parents Geraldine and L.B.T. Sikes and her brothers David and Richard Sikes.

Betsy is survived by her niece Elizabeth Miller and great niece Natalie Miller of Abilene, Texas, nephew Michael Sikes of Rockwall, Texas, sisters-in-law Linda Sikes Chisholm of Abilene and Gay Sikes Gorman of Rockwall.

William "Bill" Mohler

William Marvin Mohler Jr. went to be with our Lord on March 30, 2025. He was born on December 11, 1954 in San Angelo, Texas to William Mohler Sr. and Dorothy Mohler. Bill (Bimbo) attended Lake View High School and served his country in the Army. He is survived by daughter-Jessica Fuson and a beautiful granddaughter- Madison Boon, who brought so much joy to his life. Sister- Hazel Reed, Brother- Travis Mohler and sister-in-law-Vickie Mohler and Lots of nieces & nephews who loved him very much. He is preceded in death by wife Virginia Mohler, Son-David aka (Squirrel) Mohler, his parents, his brother- James Mohler & loving niece Kayla Uribe. Bill worked for Hirschfield Steel as a truck driver for many years, a job he had a passion for. Services will be held at West Side Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas on Thursday April 3rd, 2025 at 6:00pm. Please come and celebrate his life with family and friends. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Carlos "Pops" Lejia

Carlos "Pops" Leija, 67, of San Angelo passed away on Monday, April 1, 2025.

Viewing will be from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 7, 2025 at Miles Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Leija was born on April 4, 1957 in Mereta to Jose Pepe and Guadlupe Leija. Carlos was married to Irma Gonzales for over 40 years. She died in 2019. Carlos worked in traffic control for the City of San Angelo for over 30 years. He loved fishing, drag racing, watching wrestling, cooking out and the Dallas Cowboys. Carlos was genuine, humble, caring, loving and always willing to help someone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Antonio Leija.

Carlos is survived by two sons, Danny Leija and wife Jennifer and Juan Leija and fiance, Jessica; a brother, Raymond Leija; six grandchildren, Jalee Dianne Wiley, Scottie Soliz, Kortnee Leal, Kassidy Ruiz, Derrick Ruiz, and Dominick Ruiz; and four great grandchildren.
