David loved the outdoors and could often be seen riding around town on his three-wheeler. A couple of times his bike was stolen and we owe a great gratitude to the amazing San Angelo community for always going beyond the call of duty to make sure his bike was found and returned to him. A special shout out to our dear friend, former Chief of Police Frank Carter for always going beyond the call of duty and always watching out for our dad.

A special thanks goes out to our local businesses like Armenta's, Hidalgos on South Bryant Blvd., El Paisano on South Chadbourne, the Latest Scoop, La Esperanza on 19th St., the Hair Force and Randy's Bike Shop for always catering to his many needs. We don't know how we could've done it without each and everyone's tremendous support.

We'd be remiss not to thank Dave & Michelle at his favorite watering hole - Dave's Cave where he always went to watch football on their big screen, drink his Sprite and eat his Fritos.

We're proud of the fact that our dad never met a stranger. He was always willing to give of himself. He will forever be everyone's "Tio"!

June Lois Helwig

08/09/2025 - 21:34 , by TKing09

After 95 years of dedicated life in the Concho Valley, June Helwig embarked on her final journey at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 4, 2025. Her passing was serene and embraced by her children, Bonnie Helwig Huckabee, and Bill J. Helwig. June's life was remarkable, filled with joy, challenges, and steadfast devotion to her faith over the course of her 95 years.Born on July 21, 1930 as the eldest daughter of Otto and Augusta Kriegel in San Angelo, June spent her formative years primarily in Miles, alongside her sisters, Laverne Redman and Kay Bruce. Despite a few relocations between San Angelo and Whitefish, Montana, she remained a lifelong resident and a fervent supporter of her community, contributing significantly as a devoted farm wife in the Miles- Mereta-San Angelo area.At 18, after graduation as Valedictorian at Miles High School in 1948, she married in 1949 and moved to the south side of the Concho River with her new husband, Billy Joe Helwig, with whom she shared a rich family life and a marriage that lasted 60 years until his passing in 2010.

Following five years of living alone on the farm, June’s final relocation brought her to San Angelo, where she became a cherished member of the Rio Concho Manor patio home community, welcoming one and all new residents with her signature “Angel Food Cake.”Throughout her life, June was passionate about her faith, her family, and her commitment to agriculture and the communities of Miles and Mereta. She valued her church family and embraced opportunities for travel and lifelong learning. June exemplified love and respect for others, always aiming to "make the best better." She inspired those around her to show kindness and concern, taking proactive steps to enhance her community while quietly providing support to those in need and demonstrating leadership through her positive contributions.During her lifetime, she touched many lives in many different ways such as a PTA Mom, 4-H community and county leader, Texas Polled Hereford Women’s Auxiliary member, Miles Young Homemaker’s Assoc., Miles Trinity Lutheran Church Parishioner, West Texas Aggie Mom and Mereta/Veribest Home Demonstration Club Member/Leader, to name a few. Her example of “doing”, and not just talking was an inspiration to her children and those around her.In her later years, June thrived as a resident of the Rio Concho patio homes, cultivating friendships and maintaining connections with a wide circle of friends and family across the region. She participated in various activities, and her life, during this time, was enriched by her relationship with longtime acquaintance Merlin Hurt (deceased) of San Angelo. Additionally, she was profoundly supported by three exceptional individuals—Toni Gonzales, Sylvia Hernandez, and Maria Rodriguez —who contributed to her care, joy, and overall well-being.

June is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Helwig Huckabee and her husband Todd, as well as her son, Bill J. Helwig and his spouse Debi. She leaves behind grandchildren August Huckabee, Austin Huckabee, Georgia Monroe, Chad Helwig, Jodee Helwig Melton, and Brandon Howard along with 16 great-grandchildren. June is also survived by her two beloved sisters, Laverne Redman of Miles and Kay Bruce of Anaheim, California, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Billy Joe Helwig, and an infant daughter, Kathy Helwig. A visitation time with the family will be held immediately following the service at the church. Internment at the Miles Cemetery will be private.

Jo Anne Carney Krall Eisenbach

08/09/2025 - 21:31 , by TKing09

Jo Anne Carney Krall Eisenbach, 91, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in San Angelo, TX. Jo Anne was born on September 12, 1933, to James Monroe Thompson and Mildred Alene Keegan Thompson. She was raised by her grandparents John and Nita Keegan in Sherwood, TX.

She married her first love, John R Carney, in Sherwood, TX, when he came home from the Navy. Shortly after their marriage they moved to McCamey, TX and started their family. Later they moved to San Angelo, TX, where they finished raising their family. She and daddy loved to dance to country music. “Silver Wings” and the “Orange Blossom Special” were a couple of their favorites. That Union sadly ended upon the death of John R in 1980. She later met and married Melvin J. Krall, who became granddaddy to her grandchildren. They all have fond memories of granddad. She met Roy Eisenbach at church in June 2009. They dated for several months and married on March 21, 2009. She gained three new stepsons.

Jo Anne always had the dream of becoming a nurse. That dream came true in 1969 when she graduated from San Angelo Vocational Nursing School. She was second in her class and scored 100 on the State License Exam, which she was very proud of (we were too). In her career, she worked at Shannon Memorial Hospital, Hendrick Medical Center, Park Plaza Nursing Home, and the Infirmary at San Angelo State School. She will be commemorated by the Nurses Honor Guard. What an honor!

Jo Anne is survived by her daughter Dianne Holland and husband Cap of Bronte, TX, her daughter Elaine Catrett of San Angelo, TX, and stepson Mark Krall of Alaska, her grandchildren Brian Scherf, Leslie Stuart, Trey Holland, Tamara Catrett, Jordan Catrett, and Alissa Catrett and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special cousin Mary Ann Phillips of CA, step-sister Jerry Valley of OR, and her husband Roy Eisenbach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, first husband John R Carney, daughter Patricia Gower, son John Rex Carney, and daughter Sherry Sue Carney. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Melvin J Krall.

The family is truly blessed to have had the support from Enhabit Home Health (Brittney, Raymond, and Kyle), Hospice of San Angelo and her personal caregivers Juana, Liliana, Gloria, Nicole, Stephanie, Melinda, and Dianne Bass.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
