Michael Scott Thompson

08/29/2025 - 22:56 , by TKing09

Beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend, Michael (Mike) Thompson went home to be with the Lord while holding the love of his life’s hand at Continue Care Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas, on August 7, 2025. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, to Raymond Doyle Thompson and Johnnie Ruth Thompson on March 27, 1962. Mike was a follower and lover of the Lord, having a deep faith in his creator and savior in heaven. He was a 1981 graduate of Coronado High School in Lubbock.

Those who knew him will fondly remember the joy he brought to their lives through his humor, his kind heart, his generosity and his desire to help anyone less fortunate. Mike loved his family and friends fiercely, especially by giving guidance, advice and a helping hand. His heart’s desire from early marriage was to positively influence and have a positive impact on the younger generation and young adults in his family. He will be remembered for the close bonds he forged with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and ultimately even great-greats. He dearly loved the special pets, both cats and dogs that he called his companions over many years.

He loved camping and travelling around the country with his wife by his side, whether it was by car or motorcycle and travelling overseas was a highlight of his life before succumbing to serious illness and issues his body could not overcome. The "jokester" reputation and playful nature that enabled him to never meet a stranger was a prominent character trait that everyone knew and remembers him by.

Mike’s flair for life, sense of humor and genuinely larger than life personality touched many people over his lifetime. He left us all better for having known him. Mike moved to Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky in the 1990’s with his wife and had the experience of living among different cultures and making new friends along the way. He was employed as a truck driver, from 2003 to 2024.

Mike leaves behind his wife Deona of 38 years, brother David and wife Deborah of Paris, Tx, brother Kevin of DePort, Tx; many nieces and nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews; and his "chosen brother", Raul Ortega. He was preceded in death by his parents; two nieces and one nephew. Mike will forever be missed by his loving family and dear friends. He was blessed to have the loving care he received from the staff at CCH and his wife during the last months of his life. He grew tired and could not bear to fight any longer and until we meet again, he will forever live in our hearts.

A Memorial Service will held be at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Johnsons Funeral Home in San Angelo, Tx. Family and friends can sign the online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
