Cargile Carolyn Aliece

12/14/2013 - 11:58 , by johnb

Carolyn Aliece Cargile was born in San Angelo, Texas December 12, 1930, and passed away on December 12, 2013. She attended Santa Rita Elementary School, and junior high and high school in San Angelo; graduating in 1947. She attended Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, D.C. and the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.

In October of 1952, Carolyn moved to New York City where she was employed as a receptionist with Reynolds Metals Company.  She returned to her home town in 1954 to join her father and her brother in the purchase of Producers Livestock Auction Company. She remained there as office manager for many years. She and her brother jointly owned ranch land in West Texas.

During her lifetime she traveled extensively all over the world, accompanying friends and family to Europe and the Far East.

In the 1960’s she served as treasurer of the Junior League of San Angelo, and later was on the boards of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Tom Green County National Bank, and Fairmount Cemetery. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, and served as a church officer.

Carolyn was greatly loved by her family and her many friends, and was highly respected as an astute business woman. She was generous, always putting others’ needs and wishes before her own. And she was fun!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Estelle Cargile, and her brother, John S. Cargile.

She is survived by her nephew, Dr. John S. Cargile III and his wife, Nancy; her nieces, Ruth Cargile Skinner and husband, Ward; Patricia Cargile Kob and husband, Randy; Martha Cargile Norton and husband, Fred; and her sister-in-law, Clara Willoughby Cargile. Her close family ties also included eight great-nephews and seven great-nieces, two great-grandnieces and one great-grandnephew.

The family is grateful for the kind services of Hospice of San Angelo, and the loving care given to Carolyn by Sara Martinez and the attentive caregivers she provided.

A private graveside service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery.

A memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church, San Angelo on Wednesday, December 18 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. Memorial gifts may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 32 North Irving, San Angelo, TX 76903; Meals for the Elderly, 310 East Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903; or to the charity of your choice.
