ASU Criminal Justice Program Receives Top Ranking

Angelo State University’s online master’s degree in criminal justice program has been ranked one of the top programs in the U.S. for 2014 by BestOnlineColleges.org, an educational website that ranks online degree programs in all disciplines.

Only 31 U.S. colleges and universities are featured on the website for having outstanding online graduate criminal justice programs, and Angelo State is one of only three Texas institutions on the list.

According to a BestOnlineColleges.org news release, the website “has compiled and analyzed data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in order to create a thorough list of the 2014 Best Online Master’s in Criminal Justice Degree Programs.  The list integrates detailed insight into the enrollment, retention, and graduation rates of each program in addition to special consideration into the breadth of its specializations.”

The other Texas institutions on the list are Tarleton State University and Texas A&M-International University.

Specifically referencing ASU, the website states, “A school that’s known for its military-friendly programs for veterans and current service members, Angelo State offers an online master’s degree in criminal justice that’s held in very high regard by those in the field.

"Able to be completed entirely online, the program uses a comprehensive collection of online journals, books and documents that enable students to gain a better understanding of criminal justice policies and procedures.  Topics studied in the program include Homeland Security, Human Trafficking, Drug Cartels and Smuggling, Counterterrorism, Ethics and many other topics relevant in today’s always-changing world.

“The recognition from BestOnlineColleges.org substantiates what our faculty and students have known since the inception of our master’s degree in criminal justice,” said Dr. Casey Jones, chair of the ASU Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice.  “The degree gives students the necessities they need to be successful; namely, outstanding faculty members who have the education and practical experience that helps their students sharpen the skills employers are seeking.  Accordingly, this ranking from BestOnlineColleges.org confirms the exceptional work of our criminal justice students and faculty.”

According to DegreeRegistry.org, a general MBA can be obtained for as little as $6k and as high as $120k. If students would do a little research, they would find that it is not nearly as expensive to get a college degree.
