Kuhlmann Beatrice

04/24/2014 - 14:01 , by johnb

Beatrice Joy "Bea" Kuhlmann, 82, of San Angelo, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 21, 2014 in San Angelo.

Beatrice was born February 7, 1932 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Edwin and Lillian Peese. She grew up near Fredericksburg and while attending Lower South Grape Creek School, became friends with her neighbor and future husband, Clayton Kuhlmann. He would often leave candy for her in the branch of a tree, a sign of his affection for her. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School and married Clayton on June 3, 1950.

They lived in various cities before settling in San Angelo in 1967. Her roots in San Angelo became deeper after the birth of her first granddaughter, Kimberly Scott in 1976. She loved attending Kim's dance recitals and soccer games, and was so proud when Kim graduated from Texas Tech. Beatrice was a dear friend to many and a loving sister, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She sold Avon before working in retail sales primarily in the cosmetic department at Hemphill Wells and Dillard's. Beatrice was a longtime and very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a charter member of the Concho Pearls Lions Club and was still active, participating in many of their activities.

After retirement, she volunteered weekly at Meals for the Elderly until she began taking care of her granddaughters, Kathryn and Kristen. The greatest joy for Beatrice and Clayton was taking care of their granddaughters and attending as many of their activities as possible. She recently said, "I never thought I would be attending high school football games at 80 years old to watch my granddaughter in the band, but I'm glad that I can."

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters, Karen René Kuhlmann and Janet Kay Scott, granddaughter, Kathryn René Kuhlmann and her brother, Dayton Peese.

She is survived by her loving family, husband, Clayton Kuhlmann of San Angelo; her sons, Rodney Kuhlmann of Abilene and Stephen Kuhlmann and his wife, Ervilene of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Kimberly Hirmas and her husband Daniel of Lawrence, Kansas and Kristen Kuhlmann of San Angelo; her great grandchildren, Daniella, Kuyper and Lauren Hirmas of Lawrence, Kansas; her brother, Wilburn Peese and her sister Marilyn Wood both of Fredericksburg, Tx.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Wehmeyer officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Herbort of Fredericksburg, Cody Peese of Sisterdale, Jay Davis of Franklin, Mike Davis of Breckenridge, Bo Strickland and David Kempen of San Angelo.

Donations in Beatrice's memory may be given to Trinity Lutheran School tuition fund or Meals for the Elderly.
