Williams Jimmy Don

08/05/2014 - 20:53 , by johnb

On a beautiful summer Sunday morning, Jimmy Don Williams, 62 of San Angelo rode off into the sunset to be home with his Lord and Savior. A vision of strength, he was never broken by the cancer he courageously fought. He knew he would eventually get bucked off, but day after day, he quietly saddled up. We know there’s a special place for cowboys like him in God’s green pastures…and like a good horse, we trust that the Lord knows what he’s doin’ even when we don’t.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at The Stables at Ft. Concho, located at E. Ave B and Wool St., with Pastor Jay Johnson of The San Angelo Cowboy Church officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Jimmy Don (also known to his friends and family as Jim, JD, JDW, JW…and Boss to his grandchildren) was born November 26, 1951 in San Angelo, TX to Gene and Billie Williams. He was a graduate of Lake View High School in the class of 1970 and a tremendous athlete that excelled in football, baseball, basketball, and track. In his senior year, he gained local notoriety after scoring the only district touchdown against Texas powerhouse Lubbock Estacado. He was a champion bull rider that loved the rodeo…a love that continued throughout his life. He loved skiing in Ruidoso, gambling in Vegas, hunting, playing softball and the PBR. Jimmy Don and Connie were married September 1994 in Las Vegas, NV and they shared nearly twenty-eight years together.

Jimmy Don was a loyal and dependable friend, which resulted in a large group of close friends. His contagious smile and friendly ways wouldn’t allow him to meet a stranger. His most rewarding job was working with Hospice of San Angelo, where he was able to give back to the community he loved so dearly. He loved animals, including his dog Cinch, horse Cheyenne, goat Bill and his very portly cat, Oliver. He was an ever-present supporter for his family; and he especially enjoyed attending their sporting events where he took great pride in all their accomplishments.

Jimmy Don is preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert “Bob” A. Williams and grandmother Pearl Vineyard along with numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by Wife, Connie Williams; Parents, Walter “Gene” and Billie Dean Williams; Brother, Randall Williams; Sister, Donna (Daryl) Cates all of San Angelo, Son, Taylor Bulloch of Austin; Daughter, Christi (Scott) Copeland of Austin; Granddaughters, Harper Copeland and Haddie Copeland both of Austin; Niece, Kelli Williams of Austin; Niece, Baylie Cates; Nephew, Garrett Williams; Nephew, Jaden Cates; Nephew, Quintin Dobbratz; Special Uncle, Roy (Betty Sue) Minor; Aunt, Betty Conrad all of San Angelo; along with numerous cousins and many friends.

A special thank you to the Hospice of San Angelo (HOSA) family, Dr. Peter Chang and the many friends and family for their love, prayers and generosity during this difficult journey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of San Angelo, 36 E Twohig 11th floor, San Angelo, TX 76903, and the San Angelo Cowboy Church, 4001 N. Chadbourne St., San Angelo, TX 76903.
