Paul Duff Kelso was born on December 11, 1966 in Clifton, Texas. He passed away on October 13, 2022 in Abilene, Texas. He was the second son of Larry and Karen King Kelso. He was loved by all that knew him. Duff went to Menard schools as a young man and later completed his school years in Bronte, Texas after moving there with his family, graduating in 1986.

Duff was active in high school track and football and won awards in each sport.

All who knew Duff were touched by his care for others – his quiet, polite, thoughtful ways and his humility. Even with all these traits, he was also tough.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Kelso; his grandparents Lila and Walter King, and Paul and Rexine Kelso.

He is survived by his father and mom, Larry and Merle Kelso of Bronte; two brothers, Kirk Kelso of Austin, and Corby Kelso of Bronte. He is also survived by a son, Christopher Brown and his wife Desirae and their children Cason and Kiyah of San Angelo, as well as by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family has requested memorials to be made to the Betty Hardwick Center, 2616 S. Clack St., Abilene, Texas 79606, or to the charity of choice.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 9:30 A.M. at the Bronte Church of Christ. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 A.M.

Bill D. Warrington passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at age 90 yrs and 14 days in San Angelo. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and his children Gary and Patti Warrington, Linda (Warrington) Ruffing and Dr. Jack Ruffing, Kenneth Warrington and his brother Harvey and Loretta Warrington. He also leaves his wonderful grandchildren, Kristy and Steve Greene, Shelby Warrington, Jack and Amy Ruffing, Sara and Chris Sandland, Ryan Ruffing, Lacy and Adam Starnes with whom he had such fun over the years and greatgrandchildren Gavin and Reagan Greene, Dalton Greene, Scarlett Sandland and Clayton Starnes. He was preceded in death by his parents O.A and Norma Warrington, stepson David Ordiway and sister Winona Van Sickle.

Bill enjoyed new challenges. He could do anything he set his mind on. He began an exterminating business early in his career. He was living in Mertzon when the flood destroyed his chicken business. He owned a laundromat that his father helped in. Bill bought a hair dryer/laundry route for his parents to run. He had a mobile home sales company. He sold real estate and built many homes in San Angelo. In final years he owned a mobile home park. Bill was constantly looking for new challenges and he usually found them. He was a real wheeler dealer who led a full life and enjoyed every minute of it.

Bill loved his family and enjoyed all the times he had with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by all of us who love him.

Services will be at Harper Funeral Home on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm with burial at Hayrick Cemetery.

Benny Ray Stuard, 91, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, October 13,2022.

Mr. Stuard was born March 12, 1931 in Tom Green County at home on the family farm to Mannie Ray Stuard and Ada B. Churchwell. He attended schools in San Angelo, graduating from San Angelo High School in 1948. He entered the Air Force boot camp right after high school and soon after returning married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Marye Ellen Watkins, in 1950. They then set off for a military adventure that took them to Mississippi, Alabama and finally Alaska where he worked as a morse code intelligence operator serving 4 years. They had two boys while in Alaska. After returning home they settled east of San Angelo on a twenty acre farm on the Concho river to raise their two children. Benny owned and operated Stuard Welding and Crane Company since returning home in 1955. In November 1964 they welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the family, she was the sparkle of his eye! Benny worked at his business that he took over from his father until his retirement at age 65 where he then took up golf. He passed the business down to his son and partner Kenneth, whom had worked for him since graduating high school. Kenneth has since retired and the business was sold last year after being in the family for generations.

Benny and Marye had a very fulfilled life together they loved God first and foremost, they loved their kids and grandkids, their many friends, entertaining and dancing. Lots of dancing! They were members of the Hoolihan Acres for 20 years, Cotton Patch Shuffle, Western Ten Hoedown, and Terpsichorean Club. Benny loved playing golf with his Bentwood Country Club buddies and even following them around telling them what they were doing wrong when he was too weak to play anymore. And he loved to play dominoes with anyone if they thought they could beat him! Benny was very humble and kind to strangers and always ready to lend a helping hand. On June 2nd, 1984 he saved two teenagers from an overturned car in a pond on Parkview from drowning with no hesitation. And even hooking up the wench for the tow truck driver to pull out the car because the driver wasn’t sure how. And he would do it all over again if need be! He was called a “Good Samaritan” in the local news paper and was a local “Hero” at the Dun-Bar restaurant where he went for morning coffee, but he shook off the attention and just said” he was glad God put him there to help”. But I know he is MY hero!!

Benny lost his love of 64 years Marye in 2014, They are reunited now! He is survived by his son Bernie Stuard and wife Rannae, son Kenneth Stuard and wife Merry Carol, daughter Carla Lands and husband Butch and special niece Terri Satterwhite. His grandchildren, Melissa Barnes, Brooke Stuard-Ellis and Bryce Lands; and great grandchildren Thomas Barnes, Hayden Barnes, Konnor Barnes, Gavin Schniers and Porter Ellis.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Barnes, Thomas Barnes, Hayden Barnes, Konnor Barnes, Gavin Schniers, and Bryce Lands Public Viewing will be from 12:00pm-7:00pm Friday October,14,2022 at Harper Funeral Home. Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October15th, 2022, at First United Methodist Church Chapel, with burial immediately following at Fairmount Cemetery, with Pastor Scott Bradford.

Jacqueline Lois Ferry Shannon passed away at her San Angelo home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the age of 89.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Jackie Shannon, who was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Ferry and Elizabeth Keane Ferry, was born on February 20, 1933, at an Army post near Chicago, but her family relocated to Texas when she was a toddler. After living in both Dallas and San Antonio, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1950 and earned her bachelor's degree from Trinity University in 1953. She later earned a master's degree in Education from Angelo State University.

While at Trinity, she met the love of her life, Charley Harriss Shannon. They married in June 1953 and were married for over 48 years until his passing in April 2002.

Following her move to San Angelo in 1968, she was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she served on almost every committee at some point and made life-long friends with members of her Sunday School class.

Jackie was a dedicated, caring elementary school teacher for over three decades in San Antonio, Edna, Austin, and San Angelo. After her younger son, the late Gregory Paul Shannon, was diagnosed and treated for a serious mental illness, Jackie retired from teaching while still in her 50s to become a full-time volunteer advocate and champion for people with mental illness and their families.

Jackie was determined, passionate, and tireless in her efforts to improve the lives of individuals with mental illness, not just in San Angelo, but across Texas and the nation.

Jackie and her husband Charley established the San Angelo affiliate of NAMI - the National Alliance on Mental Illness - in the mid-1980s. In addition to serving as President of the San Angelo chapter, Jackie later served on the board and as President of NAMI-Texas (the statewide organization), and three terms as President of NAMI's national Board of Directors. She also served for over two decades as a trustee on the Board of MHMR Services for the Concho Valley, including several terms as Chair. She was the longest-tenured trustee to serve in the Center's history.

Jackie also served on various community and state councils that improved mental health policy, including the Texas Council on Offenders with Mental Impairments, the Texas Mental Health Planning Advisory Council, and the Citizens' Advisory and Planning Committee of the former Texas Department of MHMR. In her NAMI leadership roles, she successfully worked with elected officials from both parties to secure passage of important legislation that helped create parity in insurance coverage for the treatment of serious mental illness.

She was preceded in death by her younger son, Gregory Paul Shannon in 2016.

Jackie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jeannine Shannon of Lubbock; her granddaughter and her husband, Julia and Jack Driscoll of Bloomington, Indiana; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Darleen Ferry of Phoenix, Arizona, their daughters Lara and Linda, and their families.

Mary Atilano Martinez of San Angelo passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 with rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Liturgy of the word will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martinez was born on March 26, 1922 in Fort Worth to Pedro and Francisca Alonzo Atilano. She lived in San Angelo all of her life. Mary married Candalerio Martinez, Sr. and they raised 5 children together. He preceded her in death. She was a catholic, a homemaker, and babysat many children throughout the years. Mary enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She loved to cook and was known for her salsa verde chili and her tortillas. She always kept a clean house.

Mary was preceded in death by three children, Pete Marinez, Candalerio Martinez, Jr., and Emma Lee Bara; and two great grandsons, Ted Martinez and Fernando Bara.

Survivors include her two children, Johnny Martinez and Lisa Mendez both of San Angelo; a sister, Belia Benitez; six grandchildren, Barney Mendez, Jr., Ronnie Mendez, Debby Haechten, Mario Bara, Yvonne Arredondo, and Efren Martinez; and 11 Great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barney Mendez, Jr., Ronnie Mendez, Mario Bara, Eric Garcia, Billy Camarillo, Johnnie Haechten.
