Bobby Joe Tatum Sr., 86, passed away to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 12,2003, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM Friday, March 24, 2023, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 25, 2023, at St. Paul Baptist Church.

Mr. Tatum was born June 5, 1936 in Lampasas to Ceola and Mark Tatum, Sr. He served in the US Army at an early age and when he completed his time in the military he returned home and became a construction worker. He was loved by many. He had a heart of gold. He met no stranger. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and later became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. He loved the Lord. His joy in life was seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Tatum; four sons, Maurice Lozano, Joseph Suiters, Bobby Joe Tatum, Jr. and Mathew Miller; a sister, Shirley Wilson; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Donald Edward Bryan was born in Banquete, Texas to the late Paul Edward Bryan and Bessie Lohman Bryan on October 25, 1939. He died on Tuesday March 21, 2023, in his home, at the age of 83, in San Angelo, Texas.

He was a member of the church of Christ having served as deacon and elder for many years.

He attained the following degrees: Associate in Arts, Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas, Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education at Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas, Doctor of Education, Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He attended North Texas University, Denton, Texas for two years.

Since 1962 he has served as teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, superintendent, and interim superintendent. He served as President of San Angelo Retired Teachers and Associates and on the TRTA State Legislative Committee.

Don met his wife Jean McCain while attending Abilene Christian University. They were married on June 24, 1961.

Don was preceded in death by his dad, Paul Edward Bryan, his mother Bessie Lohman Bryan

Allen, and sister Sandra Jo Bryan.

Don is survived by his wife, mate and best friend of 61 years, Jean McCain Bryan, his sons, Scott

(Kristi) Bryan, San Angelo, Texas, Ben Bryan, Abilene Texas and two grandchildren: Hailey Jo and

Mason Edward Bryan of San Angelo, Texas. His step-dad George Allen, Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition, he is survived by a younger brother, Aubrey (Bea) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and a younger sister Brenda (Roy) Smalling of Houston Texas.

Services will be held on Friday March 24, Southgate Church of Christ, San Angelo, Texas at 2:00 PM. Visitation following the service.

Irene Marie Kiefer of San Angelo passed away on March 20, 2023 at the age of 99. She was born on June 11, 1923 in Eola, Texas to parents James Dewey and Lozie Lollar Dixon. She lived in San Angelo at Regency House at the time of her death, but passed away while in Shannon Medical Center.

She grew up in Eola, graduated from Eola High School in 1941 and moved to San Angelo when she was 18. She began working at Dairyland Creamery and later at Gandy’s Creamery. She met her future husband while they both worked at Gandy’s. She married Carl C. Kiefer on February 28, 1951 in San Angelo, TX.

Marie, as she preferred to be called, had very strong work ethic and continued to work until well into her eighties. She and her husband ran San Angelo Tom’s Sales until his death in 1974 and she continued to run that distributorship until 1981. She went to work at Winn’s Department Store and worked there for 10 years. When she retired from there, she decided she wanted a little shop and opened Concho Quiltery on Concho Street. She enjoyed that for nearly 20 years and while she did not get rich, she made lots of friends. The shop provided the outlet for her hobbies which consisted of embroidering and other needlework. She was also a member of the Greater San Angelo Craft Guild for more than 25 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Kiefer and Carlene Conway both of San Angelo. Grandsons Matthew Conway of Santa Rosa, California and Brian Conway of Harrison, Ohio. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her husband Carl Kiefer, her parents Dewey and Lozie Dixon of Eola, her sister Jewell Taylor of Greenwood, her brother James T. Dixon of Big Spring, nephew James Taylor of Shallowater, sister-in-law Barbara Kiefer of Paint Rock and sister-in-law Sue Dixon of San Angelo.

The graveside services will be held on March 24, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mom lived the last 6 years of her life at Regency House and we want to thank them for the kindness and care that they provided. She was happy there and we know they miss her "wheeling" around the building and greeting visitors at the front door. Thanks to Susan Cole (the other Linda) at Regency for the caring and thoughtfulness she has provided these past six years. Thanks to Lisa Martin, her husband Robert and daughter Taylor and Barbara Hoffmann for being there when she needed you all.

Surrounded by family and friends, our Big John has “Gone Fishing” to his favorite fishing hole in the sky as of March 18, 2023.

Johnathan Dale Guenther was born on May 10, 1960, in Tyler, Texas to Henry Guenther and Connie Radke Guenther. He became a mechanic at Western Auto in San Angelo, Texas then worked at Airgas for 24 years where he met lifelong friends at both companies. Never one to sit still, John loved fishing, woodworking, and barbecuing.

He is survived by his first wife Tamera and their children, Talia, JonZachary, and Taryn, and by his second wife Helen and her sons, Tristan, Shane, and Cameron. He is also survived by his mother Connie Guenther, brothers and sister Jim, Julie, and Scott Guenther, as well as four grandsons Tobias, Caleb, Zayden, and Kashdon. John was a beloved uncle to Kayla, Krista, Jason, Jerica, and Josh. John has joined his father Henry, and brothers Kurt and Tracey in heaven.

Big John made friends easily, was loved by all, enjoyed making people laugh, and was the strongest man we’ve all known. Rock On, Big John!

John’s memorial service will be held at the Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas on Saturday April 1st at 10am for all who would like to join.

Kristin Davis Rodgers, 49, went to be with our Lord on March 18, 2023 after a long, courageous battle with Huntington's Disease. She was born on March 14, 1974, in El Paso, Texas. Kristin graduated from Fabens High School and was awarded the Carr Scholarship to attend Angelo State University. She also attended Texas Tech University, UT Permian Basin, and Texas A & M at Corpus Christi where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business. Her greatest joy though was that of becoming a mother.

Kristin was preceded in death by her mother Lois Simpson Davis, her paternal grandparents Claude and ltaska Davis, her maternal grandparents Lt. Col. (Ret.) Leonard Simpson and Elizabeth Simpson, and her aunt Janice (Stoney) Stonebreaker. Kristin is survived by her children, the lights of her life, Zachary Davis Rodgers, Makayla Shea Rodgers, Alexandra Faith Rodgers; and their father Brian Rodgers. Kristin is also survived by her father Howard Davis, her brother Casey Davis, as well as aunts and uncles Rives (Valerie) Davis, Scott (Jenna) Simpson, Linda White, and cousins Tammy (Frank) Johnson, Troy (April) Davis, Morgan White, Adam White, Daniel Simpson, and Lucas Simpson in addition to other family members and friends.

Kristin was well-loved at Focused Care at Crane. While she was still able, she often helped the other residents. Kristin will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She had a beautiful spirit and courage in the face of Huntington's Disease, a devastating illness. The family would like to thank the staffs of Focused Care at Crane, Compass Hospice, and Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care they gave Kristin.

A visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on March 25, 2023 at 10:00 am at Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Blvd., followed by a graveside service at Fairmount Cemetery, 1120 W. Ave. N. Donations in Kristin's memory may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.

Lana Denise Hatton “Deni”, beloved partner, mother, nana, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend passed away March 17, 2023, at the age of 66, in her home surrounded by her family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Deni was born February 24, 1957, in Cincinnati, OH and was raised in Lexington Kentucky before moving to San Angelo, TX later in life. She was proud to let anyone know she was always and would forever be a “Kentucky Hillbilly”. The pride and joy of her life were her three daughters, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She loved to hear stories and receive pictures. Deni loved antiques and hunting for the perfect pieces of China to pass down to her children. She had a sense of humor that was quirky and at times crude that always got a laugh even when it came with a cringe. She often said she did not care what others thought about almost anything and could be relied upon to say what was on her mind. She was the bravest of us all teaching her daughters to be strong women. Deni carried her courage to the end, ensuring her loved ones were ok and would continue to care for one another. She passed peacefully, with the knowledge she would be welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Deni is survived by her life-partner and love Gary Landgraf, parents Charles and Betty Oliver of Lexington, KY. Daughters Amber (Jake) Sullivan, Jennifer (Darren) Rusin of Kentucky; and Krystina (Chris) Gatica of San Angelo, TX. Grandchildren Michael Frederick (Tiffany), Courtney Black(Rel), Sierra Black, Sunnie Gatica, Gage Gatica, and Elijah Sullivan. Great-Grandchildren Maya, Nemuel, Chloe, Amali, and Bailey. Brother George (Mary) Hickey and sister Tina Powell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sheila Crutcher and Ranee Chism.

The Funeral Service is scheduled Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Harper Funeral Home with burial at Fairmount Cemetery following.

The family would like to provide a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Shannon 5 North for the care and compassion provided in the past several months, as well as Dr. Cheruku and staff, our mother could not say thank you enough. We also appreciate and will forever be thankful for Hospice of San Angelo, for the care provided in her final weeks.

Monsignor Benedict J. Zientek, 90, of Brenham, Texas, passed away on March 15, 2023. Father Z, as he was lovingly known, was born December 28, 1932, to the late John J. and Frances (Bilski) Zientek. 

He was born in Brenham, TX, and grew up on a farm where he and his six siblings worked at picking cotton, milking cows, and raking hay. He was the sixth of seven children. 

Msgr. Zientek attended grade school at St. Mary Parish School in Brenham, then studied for the priesthood at St. John’s Minor Seminary in San Antonio, TX; St. Mary Seminary in La Porte, TX; and St. Mary Seminary in Houston, TX. He was ordained a priest on May 24, 1958, for the Diocese of Austin at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Austin, TX. 

After his ordination, he began his priestly ministry at St. Mary Parish in Brownwood, TX, where he was serving when Brownwood became part of newly established Diocese of San Angelo in 1961. Over the years, Msgr. Zientek served at St. Mary, Brownwood; St. Joseph, Raton; St. Mary, Odessa; Sacred Heart Cathedral, San Angelo; St. Joseph, Rowena; St. Charles, Eden; St. Boniface, Olfen; and his final assignment at St. Mary, Brownwood, where he had originally begun his priestly ministry. On January 23, 2003, Msgr. Zientek was named monsignor by Pope John Paul II. 

He retired on January 27, 2003, at the age of 70. Upon his retirement, Msgr. Zientek returned to live in his hometown of Brenham, TX. He lived on his family farm for about 10 years and remained active at St. Mary Parish in Brenham. Eventually he became a resident of Kruse Village in Brenham. Msgr. Zientek was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 70 years, as well as a member of the Lions Club in San Angelo, Rowena, and Brownwood for 54 years. 

Msgr. Zientek was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances; his brothers, Julian, Stanley, Aloysius “Alois”, and Msgr. Boleslaus “Boli” Zientek; and his sisters, Mrs. Mary Januszewski and Sophie Zientek. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their families. 

Visitation for Msgr. Zientek will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Brenham Memorial Chapel, located at 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham, TX, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.. Msgr. Zientek’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at 701 Church Street, Brenham, TX, with Bishop Michael Sis, Bishop of San Angelo, presiding. Interment will follow in the priests’ section of Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Brenham. A memorial Mass for Msgr. Zientek’s many friends will be celebrated by Bishop Michael Sis on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Angelo. 

Memorials may be given to Priest Formation Fund, Retired Clergy Religious Fund, Brenham Evening Lions Club or charity of choice.

Eliberto "Al" Lopez, Sr., 84, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023, in San Angelo.

Services will be at a later date. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Lopez was born July 4, 1938 in Harlingen. Al was raised in San Angelo where he was a 1958 graduate of San Angelo High School. After high school he entered the United States Marine Corp, completed his basic training in San Diego and served in the Reserves for a total of six years. Al attended San Angelo Junior College, Texas A&M and earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Management from Washington University in St. Louis. Al earned a Master of Business Administration at Angelo State University. He married Elva Samarripa on June 3 in 1961. He worked for GTE as a Supervising Engineer for 24 years. Al then worked for X-Tel for 6 years and retired in 2003.

Al enjoyed playing golf, reading, organic gardening, and watching western movies. He loved eating chocolate and ice cream. He was a member of Wedgwood Baptist Church in Ft. Worth where he was involved in prison ministry. He was previously a member of Primera Church and The Heights Baptist Church, both in San Angelo. He was also a member of Lions Club International. Al was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers Fan. He was interested in studying family genealogy.

Survivors include his wife, Elva; a daughter, Deidra Bunnell and husband Alan of Phoenix, Arizona; two sons, Eliberto "Eli" Lopez, Jr. of San Angelo, and Ethan Lopez and wife Sheila of The Colony; four granddaughters, Andrea, Elin, Kailee and Elis; and several siblings.
