Raye Allen Conaway, Sr., age 79, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, in San Angelo, TX, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on 19 March 1944, in Colorado City, TX, to Otha and Alberta Conaway.
Raye, Sr. served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, with tours in Germany, Vietnam and Korea. His awards and citations include the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, and many others.
Raye Sr. served as a Police Officer for the University Police Department, Angelo State University for 16 years. Raye Sr. also loved serving the San Angelo Community by volunteering at the San Angelo Food Bank, and serving in many jobs and positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, affecting countless of lives.
Raye Sr. is survived by his children: Stewart Conaway of Centennial, CO, John Conaway of San Angelo, TX, and Raye Conaway Jr., of San Angelo, TX; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; his twin-sister Faye Dickson, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Jackie Conaway; his parents, Otha and Alberta Conaway, sister Dorothy Blakeney, and brother Thomas Conaway.
The family of Raye Sr. wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Concho Hearts Hospice staff, and especially Brad Grissom and Aracelie Flores, lovingly known to Raye as “Pocahontas”. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the San Angelo Food Bank, Concho Hearts Hospice, or any charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 5:00-7:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Angelo. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
