GUSTIN PATSY RUTH

09/17/2014 - 16:22 , by johnb

Patsy Ruth Gustin, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Pat was born on March 2, 1931 in San Angelo. Her parents were Raymond B. Welch, Sr. and Alice Mae (Womble) Welch. Her paternal grandparents were I.N. “Newt” and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Welch, the founders of Welch Transfer and Storage. Her maternal grandparents were W.E. and Ida Womble. Pat graduated from San Angelo High School in 1948. She grew up loving both of her brothers, Colt 45 baseball, drive-in movies, music, dancing, fishing, and animals.
Mom was a Christian who read her Bible daily. Before her health declined in 2008, she used to sit in her recliner in the mornings, drink her coffee and read in order to catch the best light from the window. She kept a journal until she grew too frail, and she always tried to be grateful.
Mom had many special things that she cherished with all her heart. She loved animals, especially dogs, and she and her husband Dale shared complete devotion to their pets during their life together. The Atlanta Braves team was her favorite for many years, above all other teams, but she was interested in any aspect of baseball. Mom loved Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Jessie Dixon and Willie Nelson, and she received great enjoyment just being able to listen to their music. Mom did not spend money on hobbies – she had her baseball games on television and her music on her record albums and cds. She also loved Clark Gable and Elizabeth Taylor, and was a great fan of classic movies and famous movie stars from many years back. She amazed many people by her ability to recall movie titles and the names of leading ladies and gentlemen.
Mom had absolutely beautiful handwriting and she was an excellent speller, both to the point of perfection. She always expected good grades from her children. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing church dresses and school clothes, as well as dance recital costumes when her daughter Vicki was growing up. She was an imaginative and capable cook, but always humble in all of her domestic accomplishments.
Pat was a member of Harris Avenue Baptist Church in San Angelo for many years. She and Dale joined Calvary Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas where they were active and faithful members. Mom missed her friends in Big Spring so much, especially her neighbors on State Street, and her church friends, and she dearly loved her pastor, Herb McPherson and his wife Mary Sue.
When Mom became a grandmother in 1980, life was never the same. She was incredibly proud of her grandsons, Jeffrey Alan McCollum and Bryan Ross McCollum and her granddaughter, Kristen Paige McCollum. She dearly loved her beautiful granddaughters-in-law, Karen and Merisa. Mom was delighted and thankful to recently meet Kristen’s fiancé, Matt Kamas.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Warren Dale Gustin, her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Don McCollum, daughter-in-law Joanne, her three grandchildren, her two great-granddaughters Cyndah Deanne Lacy and Adaline Paige (Addy) McCollum, a brother, James Welch, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was especially fond of her nephew and his wife, Gary and Janie Welch, of Arlington, Texas. Pat loved and respected her stepchildren Peggy Gustin, Vicki Gustin Menchaca, and Billy Gustin and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Raymond B. Welch, Jr. and both of her sons, Richard and Scotty.
She also leaves behind her most faithful little dog Kirby and the memories of her other precious pets, Ginger, Tuffy, and Buster. She loved them with all her heart.
Mom was looking forward to meeting her Maker, and she had no fear of dying. Thank you, Mom, for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. You will be missed every day, but we are thankful you are finally at peace with no more pain.
Thanks to Dr. Peter Chang for his unwavering patience and genuine compassion, Dr. D’Arcie Chitwood, Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Timothy Hopkins at Shannon Clinic, the nurses at Triumph Hospital and Shannon Medical Center, Ed Halfast of St. Luke UMC, those who visited, and those who prayed for Mom during her frequent hospitalizations. The family is grateful for the loving care she received at Park Plaza Nursing Center during the last three years of her life. God Bless you all, with special thanks to Travis, Juanita and Lupe. We are also thankful to Pranee Gomes for always being cheerful, optimistic and kind, back when Mom had her Saturday appointments at the beauty shop. The family is grateful to Maria Chacon, Julia Griffin, Rosalina Martinez, and Alejandra Martinez, Mom’s caregivers and companions, to whom we owe so much. Mom’s life was extended through their showing of love, compassion and tenderness. Mom considered Maria her second daughter.
Visitation with the family present will be at Robert Massie Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Belvedere Memorial Park with Associate Pastor Ed Halfast officiating under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
What God Hath Promised
God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives thro’;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
God hath not promised
We shall not know
Toil and temptation,
Trouble and woe;
He hath not told us
We shall not bear
Many a burden,
Many a care.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the laborer,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.

"Beyond the Sunset" Should you go first and I remain, to walk the road alone, I'll live in memories garden, dear. With happy days we've known. In spring I'll wait for rose's red, when faded, the lilacs blue. In early fall when brown leaves fall, I'll catch a glimpse of you. Should you go first and I remain, for battles to be fought, each thing You've touched along the way will be a hallowed spot. I'll hear your voice, I'll see your smile, tho blindly I may grope, The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope. Should you go first and I remain, one thing I'll have you do Walk Slowly down that long long path, for soon I'll follow you. I want to know each step you take, so I may take the same. For someday down that lonely road you'll hear me call your name.

Robinson Darrell Lacy

09/11/2014 - 11:02 , by johnb

PFC Darrell Lacy Robinson, 23, entered into eternal life on August, 31, 2014. He was born on February 23, 1991 to Chetman L Robinson and Darnisha L. McClendon in Neu-Ulm Germany. He was active in gymnastics at Central High School in San Angelo, Texas and graduated in 2009. He went on to graduate from Howard College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice in May 2012. Darrell joined the US Army and graduated from basic training/ AIT December 19, 2013. He was currently stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a military policeman in the 550th Military Working Dog, 42nd Military Police Detachment, 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade with his K9 partner, Raptor. Reading through his Facebook feed, one will see comment after comment of Darrell's affectionate character – how funny he was - always making people laugh with a joke or his remarkable dance moves. He was a great friend and confidante, a great listener, a gentleman – always opening doors for the ladies (Your daddy taught you well.). We see how much he encouraged people at work, through school and basic training, staying back to help a fellow friend/soldier get caught up. It also shows how much he meant to everyone he encountered. He was known for his infectious laugh and that funny look on his face when he couldn't stop laughing. He never passed you by without saying hello and giving you a smile and his gratitude for the smallest gifts, no matter how insignificant. He had the ability to make you feel special, always putting others ahead of himself – he never could say no. He was a true soldier, battle buddy, and friend. Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends. He always made time for those who meant the most – fishing with his dad, watching wrestling with his cousin and grandpa, dancing with his sister or calling her just to tell her something silly to make her laugh, making his mom laugh till they both cried. He would take the time to call his grandmothers just so they could hear his sweet voice or post a picture so they could see his smiling face. He enjoyed playing video games, catching a movie, and watching UFC with friends. Darrell had a beautiful soul. He brought laughter and smiles to everyone he met. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back; always willing to lend a helping hand. Darrell was an amazing son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will forever hold a special place in each of our hearts with memories that will last a lifetime. Darrell had a tattoo on his ribs that read Courage and Strong, taken from his grandmother, "Sana's" favorite passage, Joshua 1:7 - "Be Strong and Very Courageous." Darrell lived these words every day. From his willingness to try anything once, to his quickness to act on a silly dare, Darrell proved to be a true definition of Strength and Courage. He had a dream to join the military and become a Military Police Officer. It took a lot of courage for him to take that step, but he was living that dream. He completed one station unit training at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. He loved serving our country and especially training in the K9 unit with his beloved Raptor. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Darrell was a true hero. Darrell is survived by his parents, SFC Chetman Robinson, U.S. Army, retired, San Angelo, TX, his mother, Darnisha McClendon and her husband Dale, Victorville, CA., sister, Dr. Siriaca Muchando and her husband Gerald, San Antonio, TX, brother, Brandon Wilson, San Angelo, TX, stepbrother Joshua McClendon, San Diego, CA and stepsister Diondra McClendon, Sacramento, CA; Grandparents Josue and Susan Rodriguez, Robert Lee, TX, and Leslie Williams, Lubbock, TX. Darrell is also survived by a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins that loved him very much, as well as, Giovanna Viggers, his best friend and his first love.
Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reverend Melvin Estelle Robinson and Edwina Anita Maria Robinson. His Journey's just begun: Don't think of him as gone away, his journey's just begun. Life holds so many facets the earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much! The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 12, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at The Christian Faith Center in San Angelo, Texas, with the Pastor Todd Nelson and Nigel Robinson, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo.
