Mary Ellen Slough

Mary Ellen Slough was born November 2, 1946 in Joplin, MO to Margarite and Richard Piersing. She is survived by her only daughter, Kristen and her husband Richard Walton. She has two grandchildren, Micah and Selah, who are left to remember their Nana who loved them more than any words could say. She is also survived by her dear sister Jeanne Federico of Wichita, KS. She was adopted later in life by Patricia Treachler.

Memorial services will be 7:00 pm Tuesday May 5, 2015 at Angelo Bible Church with Pastor Jim Stanley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Shannon Medical Center, including Dr. Bethil, all the staff of 4 South, and all of the staff of Hospice of San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cornerstone Christian School Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice. “And then one day, I’ll cross the river. I’ll fight life’s final war with pain. And then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the light of Glory and I’ll know He lives.”

Odessa Irene Davidson

Funeral Services for Odessa Irene Davidson, 80, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2015 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Waller officiating. Burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Davidson passed away Thursday , April 30, 2015 in San Angelo. She was born to Emmanual and Henrietta Chandler on July 31,1934. She was very open hearted and loved to travel and meet new people. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her son, Del Davidson and wife Julie and daughter, Tracey Clark and husband Rob; Grandchildren, Rachel Griffin, Shaun Davidson, Jason Davidson, Trevor Davidson, Matthew Clark and Rachael Clark. Great Grandchidlren, Hunter Davidson, Hudson Davidson, Caroline Griffin, Kye Davidosn and Zayden Davidson. Very special friend Young Houston and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Hirata

On April 29th, 2015, Dorothy Lee Chandler Hirata went to be with our Lord in heaven. She was 86 years old. Funeral service to remember Dorothy and her fulfilling life will be at 10:00a.m.,Tuesday May 5, 2015 at Grape Creek Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.
Born the middle child of three to W. E Chandler and Zola Mae Ingram she joined her parents, her brother, and many other family members in God's heavenly kingdom.
Dorothy lived a life of joy and countless adventures and travels with her husband and love of her life, Herb. When she was not off on adventure, she was a bookkeeper, church secretary, teacher, puppeteer, domestic diva, best friend and confidante to many. She looked at life with humor and believed always that no matter what came she could turn to the Lord for help and guidance. She proclaimed her faith not from a hill, but from the quiet depths of her soul and by doing the work that needed to be done. She believed that faith as a mustard seed could move mountains, and her family is sure that she and the Lord did move a few mountains quietly in her time here on earth.
She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Lt. Colonel Herbert T. Hirata(Ret. USAF), her sister, Alta Holt, her children; daughter Pam and Donald Kruse, son Bill and Beatriz Hawkes, son Ron and Dorothy Hawkes, daughter Terri Hirata, Sister-in-law Elaine and George Harai, 12 grandchildren and countless great grandchildren, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Diana Thomas Montoya

Edward William Dietz was born in San Angelo on December 8, 1937. He passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. His parents were William Edward and Mary (Enriquez) Dietz.
Edward worked for Abel Transfer and Storage before retiring. Edward had a big heart and loved to help people. He would go out of his way to help anyone he could. He will be missed by his family, neighbors, friends and anyone that knew him.
Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Hope Dietz and daughter Sylvia.
Edward is survived by his wife, Leonor Dietz; son, Edward (Eddie) Dietz; sister, Mary Garcia; brother, Fred Dietz, Sr. and numerous nieces and nephews; along with special niece Rosie Montano. Edward spent the last 10yrs of his life taking care of his ailing wife.
Rosary service will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, May 1st at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.
Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 2nd at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Fr. Lorenzo Hatch officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Diana Thomas Montoya

Diana Thomas Montoya, 72, of San Angelo passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 in a local care hospital.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 am, Friday May 1, 2015 in Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Abel Fernandez officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Diana was born on July 21, 1942 in Harlen, KY to Charles Boss Thomas and Leola Shepherd. She was a daughter, mother, housewife, cosmetologist, and Avon representative for many years. Her greatest strength was her courage in the face adversity. Diana married her soul mate, Amarante “Andy” Montoya June 5, 1965 in Sumter, SC and spent 42 years happily married to him. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Diana was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

She is survived by sons, Edward Montoya and his Fiancé Lynette Shier of Albuquerque, NM; Timothy Montoya and his wife Catherine of San Angelo; Anthony Montoya of San Angelo; sisters, Mary Ruth Turner, Barbara Kay Horton, Imogean Allen, Glenda Faye Thomas, and Joyce Thomas; two grandchildren, Tristian and Bobby Montoya. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Leora Robertson

Leora Nell was born on September 22, 1938 in Coke County to Buster and Vera Burson. She passed away on April 25, 2015 in Robert Lee Care Center. Visitation will be held all day Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the funeral home with family present 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at Robert Lee Baptist Church with interment to follow in Robert Lee Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Robert Lee.
Nell started school in Green Mountain when she was five years old and graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1956. After graduation she attended Angelo State.
Nell married James Maurice Robertson on August 30, 1957 in
San Angelo. To this union was born a daughter, Leora Kathleen Robertson and a son, James “Jim” Maurice Robertson, Jr.
In 1966, she followed her husband into the ministry with Emmanuel Pentecostal Church here in Robert Lee being their first pastorate. They also pastored in Portales, New Mexico, North Platte, Nebraska, Kerrville, Texas and Brownfield, Texas with two of the churches being “Home Mission” works! While in North Platte, Nebraska she served on the Ladies Ministries Board of the United Pentecostal Church International. They retired from the ministry while in Brownfield, Texas on December 27, 2014.
Nell was preceded in death by her father, Buster Burson, her mother, Vera Burson and her mother and father in laws, J.B. and Samantha Robertson.
She is survived by her husband Reverend James M. Robertson, Sr.; her daughter, Kathleen Robertson and friend Frank Sparks; her son, and daughter-in-law, Jim and Latitia Robertson, missionaries to Warsaw, Poland; four granddaughters, Chv’ana Robertson, Kaylah and Justin McGee, Tessa Robertson and Kandra and Marcus Elzely; and one great granddaughter, Emellia Kate all of Cooper City, Florida. Also surviving is her sister, Betty Beaver; two brothers and sister-in-law Bub and Sissy Burson, Jerry Burson, her sister-in-law Leta Aldridge, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Harold and Mary Robertson, Doug and Peggy Robertson and Doyle and Sandy Robertson. She also has several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lydia Galan Menchaca

Lydia Galan Menchaca, 86, left this world for Heaven on the morning on April 28, 2015, surrounded by family at her home in Christoval, Texas.

Lydia was born to Antonio and Lena Galan on May 11, 1928 in a small house under the shade of a live oak tree east of the South Concho River in Christoval. Her life was a demonstration of faith and faithfulness.

She married Antonio Menchaca at the age of 17 and together they raised their family of four children in Christoval, which was her life's proudest accomplishment.

Lydia had a simple yet profound faith. She made sure her children were involved in church on Sundays and it was her faith that inspired her husband Tony to give his life to Jesus. Lydia faithfully attended the Christoval First Baptist Church for sixty-two years.

While her family was young, Lydia loved having picnics and Easter egg hunts at the park, watching her kids play sports, and playing key roles in the PTA and Mother's Club. Her children remember that she could always make something wonderful out of the little they had, and that friends were always welcome at the table. When Tony fell ill with Alzheimer's, she cared for him for nearly a decade until he left this world.

Lydia loved her garden and knew how to encourage her plants to bloom beautifully. She enjoyed bowling, cheering for the Cowboys, walking or drinking coffee with her friends, and hosting family gatherings at her house. Her family loved her homemade tortillas, sweet tea, enchiladas, beans, salsa, pineapple-mandarin cake, and oatmeal raisin cookies.

Lydia was thankful for her many adventures, including, boating on the lake with her sister Laura, travelling to New York and California to visit grandchildren, and telling her story on KCRN radio. She loved to experience life and was always ready to have "just a little taste" of whatever food was being served.

When she suffered, she forgave; bitterness had no place in her life. She had friends everywhere she went and cared deeply for her loved ones.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Tony, her siblings Raul Galan, Natividad Wrey, Laura Jones, Eudelia Guerrero, and her daughter-in-law Suzette Menchaca.

Lydia leaves the legacy of her faithfulness and devotion to God to her surviving family members, including her children Rudy (Cathy) Menchaca of San Angelo, Bobby Menchaca of McAllen, Ricky Menchaca of San Angelo, and Rachel (Bob) Beaver of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Marci Menchaca of San Angelo, Marc Menchaca of New York City, Valerie (JD) Wilson of Noblesville, IN, Joe Preston Menchaca of Norfolk, VA, Amy Beth Beaver of Kingsburg, CA and Benjamin (Mary) Beaver of San Angelo, six precious great-grandchildren, and her siblings, who have been her most wonderful friends and companions, Marie (Jerry) Barnes of Christoval, and Raymond Galan of San Angelo, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a heart-felt thanks to Hospice of San Angelo and Dr. Raymond Untalan for providing such exceptional care during Lydia's last years and days.

A visitation for the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home on Friday, May 1 and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Christoval First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to House of Faith (321 Montecito San Angelo, Texas, 76903) or Christoval First Baptist Church (P.O. Box 241 Christoval, Texas, 76935).

Melva Sellars

Melva Sellers, 94, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2015 in Aspermont, Texas. She was born to the late Raymond E. and Ardis Field Key on Wednesday, October 19, 1920 in Clovis, New Mexico. Melva married Elmer E. Sellars on November 27, 1937 in Snyder, Texas. She worked as a cook with the San Angelo Independent School District for 22 years before retiring. Melva was a devoted Christian and a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, San Angelo. Melva was known as being the one who took care of everyone else, especially the babies of the family throughout the generations. She believed in working hard at whatever she was doing and she enjoyed countless hours working outside with the flowers and the garden. Her gentle spirit and giving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. Melva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 son, Danny Sellars; 1 granddaughter; 3 great grandchildren; and siblings, Richard Field Key, Raymond Earl Key, and Arlene Meluso.
Survivors include her children, son Ellis Dean Sellars and his wife, Hildegard; daughter Joy Melvin and her husband, Gene; daughter Martha Bennett and her husband, Larry; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sellars; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; sisters, Jeanne McMinn and Gerry Rowley; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Nancy C. West

Nancy C. West, 68, of San Angelo, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in San Angelo. This world was gifted with her birth on Monday, February 17, 1947 in San Angelo to the late, Clarence Harry and Emma Lavina Phinney Tinkler. Nancy married the love of her life, McAllan R. West, on Saturday, March 19, 1966 in San Angelo. She loved taking care of her many customers at the hair salons and they looked forward to seeing her smiling face for over 46 years. She was of the Baptist faith. Nancy was known for her beauty, both inside and outside alike. She had a "soft soul" who loved old movies, antiquing and telling a good story. Her laughter and loving spirit will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janice Marie Lloyd.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, McAllan R. West; son, Damon West; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
