Jesus "Jesse" Manuel Flores

Jesus "Jesse" Manuel Flores, 62, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in San Angelo, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late, Manuel Garcia and Jeronima Rey Flores on Sunday, June 22, 1952 in Fort Stockton, Texas. Jesse married the love of his life, Linda Flores on September 4, 1977 in Imperial, Texas. He worked as a carpenter with the San Angelo ISD until retiring on December 31, 2014. He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Jesse was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He made countless football helmets for football fans across the country. He was known for his positive outlook, no matter what he was facing at the moment. He was a giving man who was outgoing and enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. It has been said that once you met him, he made you love him. His biggest treasure in life, as he described them, is his family. He lived the phrase "family oriented". Jesse's love of life and laughter will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfredo Flores.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 18, 2015 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Innocent Eziefule will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo. Robert "Guy" Alfaro, Johnny Ramirez, Roy Ramirez, Armando Flores, Freddy Flores, Jr., Jose Rubio, Michael Jimenez, and Josh Rubio will serve as pallbearers. Jonathan Saucedo and Oscar Molinar, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com .
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda F. Flores; children, Becci DelaCruz (Donnie, Jr.), Christina Zaveleta, Jessica Flores, Michelle Saucedo (Rocky), Manuel Flores (Vanessa); grandchildren, Destiny, Donnie, III., Gabino, Beatrice, Xeena, Gabriel, Eduardo, Amanda, Oscar, Jr., Matthew, Jonathan, and Kristopher; grand dog, Max; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Elvira Rodriguez, Armando Flores, Minnie, Ramirez, Linda Alfaro, Arcardio "Cario" Flores, and Arnulfo "Nupy" Flores; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Lee Howard

Dorothy Lee Carter Howard was born October 27, 1924, and passed from this life to the next on May 12, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born in Blair, Oklahoma to Charles and Leora Carter. Dorothy graduated from Blair High School and attended Oklahoma City University to pursue her love of music. She graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in piano.
Dorothy married H. D. (Dick) Howard in 1947. They began their married life in Dallas, Texas, where Dick attended SMU Law School and Dorothy taught elementary school. After Dick's graduation in 1950, Dick and Dorothy moved to San Angelo where they raised their family and became an integral part of the city.
Dorothy enjoyed sharing her musical talent with others. For over twenty-five years she taught piano lessons to her much loved students. She served as organist of First United Methodist Church in San Angelo for fifteen years. Dorothy also delighted in playing the piano and the accordion for community events.
In addition to being a member of First Methodist Church, Dorothy was active in Junior League, San Angelo Symphony Guild, Shannon Hospital Auxiliary and PEO. Most of all, Dorothy cherished time with her family, her many close friends and her beloved pets.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Owene Carter English; her brother Robert Carter and her husband Dick. She is survived by her daughter Susan Denzer (husband Greg) of Richardson, TX; her son James Howard (wife Marcia) of Dallas; grandsons Jordan Denzer and Blake Denzer (wife Rachelle); great-grandson Jack Denzer; and cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of San Angelo.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Dorothy may be made to First United Methodist Church of San Angelo Organ Maintenance Fund or to the San Angelo Symphony.

Sara Jeanette Lara

Sara Jeanette Driggers Lara passed away peacefully in San Angelo after a short illness, surrounded by friends and her loving daughter, Kim Ryan. She was 5 days short of her 82nd birthday.

Sara Lara was born in Mt. Pleasant, TX on May 17th, 1933, the youngest of four children, during the depths of the Great Depression, to Elvin Driggers and Alice Brown Driggers. She met and married her husband, Peter Paul Lara in April, 1951 in Texarkana, Texas where he was stationed as a Corporal in the United States Army. They were married for over 60 years.

Her husband's work in military intelligence and the Army Security Agency took them all over the nation and the world, from Monterey, California and Athens, Greece in the 1950's to Maryland and the divided city of West Berlin in the 1960's. She and Pete settled in San Angelo in the late 1960's where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Sara and Pete were longtime and active supporters of athletics at Angelo State University where two of her children graduated and Pete earned a graduate degree. A Gold member of the Ram Club, Sara generously gave her time and bequeathed a sizeable donation to ASU.

Sara's generosity extended to family and friends throughout San Angelo where she was known for her numerous baby quilts. She loved to travel, especially to the Big Island of Hawaii, where she and Pete spent many happy months each year swimming and hiking. Among her other interests were gardening and birding. Sara and Pete were active in civics and were longtime election judges in San Angelo.

Sara is preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter, Mary, along with two brothers, Fred and Buddy Driggers. She is survived by her sister Joanne Barton of Uniontown, Washington as well as her children Peter and wife Bonnie Lara, Kim Ryan, Paul and wife Margaret Lara, five grandchildren,Sara Ryan, Nick Ryan, Paul Van Lara, Matt Lara and Alec Lara, and three great-grandchildren, Vance, Eva and Max Ryan. Like her husband Pete, Sara donated her body to the Texas Tech University Medical School. A memorial service will be held Friday at 1pm at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband Pete and daughter Mary.

Scott Mark Combest

Scott Mark Combest, 60, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late, Ernest Franklin, Jr. and Ramona Ruth Opperman Combest on September 18, 1954 in San Angelo. He married Vicki Lynn Frazier on February 23, 1980 in Sweetwater. Scott will be remembered for his unconditional love for his family, his love for golf and his love for all things University of Texas where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1978. Scott was a well known pharmacist in San Angelo for over 30 years. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Scott is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2015 in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo. Mills Caraway will officiate. Barefoot Bankhead, Wayne McCune, Mike Hennings, Jimmy Freeman, Jerry Mayberry and Bobby Dan Wood will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Combest; children, Leslie Hines (Ronnie) and Amy McGowan (Ogden); grandchildren, Owen Hines, Cal McGowan, Jessica Oaks, and Wayne Hines; brother, Randall Combest; cousin, Richard Kempkin (Yvonne); and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center and The American Cancer Society
The Combest family would like to give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and West Texas Rehabilitation

Juanita F. Lozano

Juanita F. Lozano, 64, of San Angelo passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at a local hospital.

Family visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, May 15th at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, May 16th at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Juanita was born on August 10, 1950 in Chicago, IL to Leopoldo and Valentina (Sarabia) Flores.
She was a full time wife and mother, who was always there when anyone needed her. She married her man-to-be Vicente Lozano on April 11, 1980 where they moved to Ozona, and finally settled in San Angelo, Tx. In her daily life, she enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers' games while playing WordFued with her two daughters. She loved to read all types of books, and binge-watch any show that kept her attention.

Juanita is survived by a daughter, Diana (Ramiro) Reyes of Chicago, son, Jose (Kerry) Reyes of Pocahontas, AR, daughter, Mia (Daniel) Gallegos of San Antonio, son, Vicente Lozano, Jr. of San Angelo, grandson, Ramiro Vasquez, Jr. of Chicago, grandson, Samuel Vasquez of Chicago, granddaughter, Brooklyn Reyes of Pocahontas, AR, granddaughter, Marissa Villarde of San Antonio, grandson, Caleb Gallegos of San Antonio, sister, Anita (Albert) Pagliuca of Chicago, sister, Gloria Hernandez of Chicago, sister, Stella (Victor) Korytko of Chicago, brother, Raul Flores of Chicago and sister-in-law, Carmen Flores of Chicago.

Leora Grooms Pustka

Leora Grooms Pustka, 84, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 12, 2015 at a local care center.

Rosary will be held at 7:00pm Thursday May 14, 2015 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00am Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral home.


She was born on March 28, 1931 to Leroy and Laveda (Stuart) Grooms in San Angelo, TX. She married Alphons on June 18, 1948 in Mertzon. Leora and Alphons lived in San Angelo, Texas. She was a great wife and a very loving mother who loved to play bingo.

She was a member of Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart.

Pallbearers will be Mike Blasdell, Andy Rhoads, Terry Blair, Farley Dakan, Wade Dakan, Jason Coleman, Aaron Poindexter, Brent Ferguson and Kevin Holbrook.

She was preceded in death by mother, Laveda Grooms, father, Leroy Grooms, brother, Bobby Grooms, sister, Dorothy Monroe, sister, Euleta Yarborough.


Leora is survived by her loving spouse of 67 years; Alphons Pustka of San Angelo, daughters, Alana Dakan of San Angelo, Teena (Mike) Blasdell of Kingsland, Patricia (Andy) Rhoads of Montgomery, Mellissa (Terry) Blair of San Angelo, son, David (Jeanine) Pustka of Lufkin, sister, Teresa Young of Idalou, grandchildren; Farley Dakan, Wade Dakan, Cissy Coleman, Lainie Poindexter, Jamie Myers, Scarlett Ferguson, Courtney Holbrook, Whitney Pustka and 7 great-grandchildren.


In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Meal for the Elderly at 310 E Houston Harte Expy, San Angelo, TX 76903 or the Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011

Velma Jean Ault

Velma Jean Ault, age 80, of San Angelo, passed away May 10, 2015, at the Senior Care Meadow Creek. "Jeanie" to her family and friends, was born December 2, 1934 in San Angelo, Texas to parents Elzie and Velma Ault, who preceded her in death, but she is survived by numerous cousins from the Aults and Jennings side of her family.
Jeanie had a deep love of music and was an accomplished pianist and violinist so when she graduated from San Angelo High School she worked as a private music teacher. She eventually moved to Dallas and worked at the Baptist Book Store and moved to Austin where she worked for the University of Texas film department. Later in her life she played and entertained in her home on her beloved baby grand Steinway piano. Her other passion was traveling the world. She traveled with friends and church groups to 38 countries plus 39 states. While growing up, Jeanie's father, Elzie, was a rancher so Jeanie grew up surrounded by horses, dogs and cats, and she loved all animals She also loved sending greeting cards to family and friends and watching her large collection of old movies..
Jeanie was a long standing member of The First Baptist Church in San Angelo. She was involved in the church "Christmas Shoe Box for Children" project and worked tirelessly decorating and filling many children's boxes with school supplies and small personal items for church members and friends. These boxes were sent to poor countries and brought joy to the hearts of children that had very little. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to favorite charities in her honor.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Johnsons's Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16th at Sherwood Cemetery for 11:00 a.m.

Cecilia Magana

Cecilia "Cecy" Magana, formerly of El Paso, TX, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015, at her home in San Angelo. She was born February 25, 1938, in Santa Maria, California, to Gilberto Vega and Eustolia Gonzales.

Cecy is survived by her husband, Manuel Magana, Sr., of San Angelo; her daughters, Ana (husband Art) Acosta, of New Braunfels, TX, Patsy (husband Victor) Nevarez of Riverside, CA, Gloria (husband Billy) Kinney of San Angelo, TX; and by her son, Manuel (wife Yolanda) Magana, Jr. of Riverside, CA; her sisters, Magdalena Fernandez of El Monte, CA, and Esperanza Valles of California; numerous other friends and relatives and special friend to the family, Andres Guzman. She is also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/Knickerbocker, 1102 Knickerbocker Rd. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. that evening at the funeral home Chapel of Memories. A Mass is scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
