Floyd Barney Melton

Barney Melton Floyd was born on Sept 28, 1930, near Miles, Texas, to Lucious Marshall Floyd and Lodusky Irene Paramore Floyd, the next-to-last of eight siblings. He grew up in San Angelo and attended Lake View schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was in Germany.

He passed away Feb. 22, 2016.

Barney married Francis Carolyn Adams on Dec. 23, 1954, in Sterling City and lived in San Angelo for their 58-year marriage. Until retirement, Barney spent his career as a salesman, including co-owning a business with his son, Mark Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; both parents; stepfather Jimmy Welburn; and all of his siblings.

He is survived by his children, Jeanie Shelton (Kent), Linda Klonz (Ralph), Mark Floyd and Duskie Marceau. He has five grandchildren: Bonnie Holder (Greg), Jeana Owens (Lance), Casee Flood (Andrew), Jarod Sims, and Lilly Hartgraves; seven great-grandchildren; and a myriad of precious nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, in Fairmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of your choice.

Sally Ione Reed

Sally Ione Reed, 89, went to meet her maker on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in San Angelo. She was born December 19, 1926 to Robert & Maude Fortson of Abilene, Texas. Ione married the love of her life, John Lee (Buster) Reed on July 2, 1948 in San Angelo. As a young woman, Ione began a career as a colorist with Wallace Moritz Studio, where she became, at a very young age, the manager of the department overseeing 20 other women. With this as her primary career, she became interested in art and soon became a very accomplished artist; something she was always very proud of. She and her husband, Buster were always a large part of the cultural arts in San Angelo. After 20 years with Wallace Moritz she retired and started her own colorist business which she ran out of her home for over 10 years. Ione, never one to sit still for very long became interested in her husband's hobby, bench rest rifle shooting. Together they traveled the United States in competition, meeting and enjoying many friends that she still kept in touch with throughout the years. Later in life she decided she needed a change and started a new career as a Nanny. She helped to raise an untold number of children in San Angelo of which they all loved and adored as their "Omie". When she reached the point in her life to just stop, she began a canasta card group which met every week for a game of crazy canasta!!! In her final years, reading was her utmost passion... She lost herself in the beauty of her books and there she stayed until God saw fit to welcome her home. 
There will be a time of open visitation for those wishing to pay their final respects at the funeral home from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Miles Cemetery.. 
She is survived by her daughter Gail and her spouse, Robilen Miller; one grandson, Bryan Clark Hartman; one brother, Carrell D. Fortson; and one nephew, William Seaman and his wife, Susan. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's foundations are always appreciated. .... Her legacy to me was her last few words... "I Love You so much Gail" Thank you Mother....

Troy Truman Stanford

Troy Truman Stanford, 98 of San Angelo, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 in a local care center. Graveside service will be 2 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Gary Karschner officiating. Services are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Troy was born on November 25, 1917 to William and Matilda (Jackson) Stanford in Erath County. On December 31, 1938 he married Laura Burden in Brownwood. Troy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Laura "Allyene" Stanford in 2003.

Troy is survived by: daughter Judy Ransbarger of Miles, son Terry Stanford and wife Jamie of Waco; grandsons Weldon Ransbarger and wife Amanda of Cypress and Russell Ransbarger and wife Candice of Fort Worth; granddaughters Lynzee Clark and husband Justin of Waco, Kassidi Johnson and husband Dusty of Waco; six great-grandchildren Troy, Brittany, and Madalyn Ransbarger, Callie and Josie Clark, and Noah Johnson; sisters Frances Whittington and Shirley Stanford; and numerous extended family.

Pallbearers will be Weldon Ransbarger, Russell Ransbarger, Justin Clark, Dusty Johnson, Curtis Odell, and Kevin Niehues.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of The Springs Alzheimer’s Special Care Center for their care during Troy’s stay.

Daniel Francis Cleary

Daniel Francis Cleary died March 1, 2016. He was born May 6, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Norman Victor Cleary and Clara Connor Cleary. Dan attended St. Kieran Catholic School, Connaley and Washington High School, and The University of Illinois at Urbana. Dan was a Korean War Veteran, in the U.S. Air Force, with the 5th Mule Train from January 1953 thru November 1953. Upon returning to the United States Dan married the love of his life "His Dixie" Emfinger on February 6, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri. Dan was employed by Citicorp for 35 years retiring December 1989. During their time with Citicorp Dan and Dixie lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, California, and Colorado. Dan, Dixie, and their children lived in many of the named states more than once as his business required. Upon retirement Dan and Dixie returned to Dixie's birthplace, San Angelo, Texas. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dixie, daughter Susan Ann, brother Norman, son-in-law Charles Pahira, and sister-in-law Yvonne Emfinger Oliver. 
Dan is survived by his companion, Darlene Armstrong; daughters, Sherrie and husband Perry Jones of Cedar Crest, NM, Janice and husband George Gail of Placitas, NM, and Nancy and husband David Ianuario of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Bryan Jones and wife Angela, Hollie and husband Sean Brooks, Daniel Gail and wife Angel, Katherine and husband Kevin Okesson, Patrick Cleary and wife Kayleen, Tracey and husband Curtis Wilson, and Sean Pahira and wife Angie; and 11 great-grandchildren. 
Dan was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He was a fourth degree in The Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Post 0572 American Legion.
Rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2016, at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Visitation to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with burial following at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Elvira G. Fuentes

Elvira "Vera" Gomez Fuentes, 84, longtime resident and homemaker of San Angelo, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born to the late, Julian and Paulita Mijares Gomez on November 20, 1931 in Eola, Texas. Vera married Armando D. Fuentes in September of 1971. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Vera's passion in life, was her family, friends and her faith. She instilled that passion in her children and grandchildren, who will continue her legacy for generations to come. Vera prayed and kept her faith through her last breath. She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, but especially Christian music. She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Vera was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Pauline Mendiola, Louisa Gonzales, Trini Gomez, Jose Gomez, Jessie Gomez, Julia Mata, Florence Montelongo, Sam Gomez, and Olivia Minjarez. 

Survivors include her husband, Armando D. Fuentes; son, Noe Minjarez; daughter, Annabel Nelson and her husband, Chad; daughter, Odalia "Dolly" Minjarez; grandchildren, Armando Trevino, Jr., Stephen Trevino, Anthony Minjarez, Jennifer Minjarez, Justin Gomez, Lee Magana and Jaelyn Nelson; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Maggie Pena; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. 

A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 4, 2016 in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Emilio Sosa serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Children's Miracle Network in Vera's honor. A special thank you to the caring, loving and compassionate staff od Meadow Creek and Gentiva Hospice.

Buddy Joe Tawater

Born 12 July 1932 in Caddo Mills, Texas, the 9th child and 3rd son of Samuel T. Tawater and Hattie Alma Burts Tawater. Buddy passed away Saturday, 27 February 2016 in San Angelo, Texas. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday 2 March 2016, at Johnson Funeral Home. Having been ill the past several years, Buddy left this life peacefully in his sleep with his wife, Annabelle by his side at the Senior Care Meadow Creek Center on Oak Grove Blvd., where they resided. Buddy is survived by his 4 children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandson: Daughter: Laura Tawater, her husband Erik Hille, daughter Becka Hille- Tawater of Boston, Mass. Grandaughter Elizabeth Tawater, and her husband Sanjay Krishnan of Sudbury, MA. Son: Lance Tawater, his wife Sandy of Boyd Texas; their son Jeremiah Tawater, his wife Lindsey and their son Triston Tawater of Kaufman Texas. Daughter: Andrea Tawater Robbins and her husband Scott Robbins of Eagle, Colorado Son: Eric Tawater of Mont Eagle, Tennessee His only living sister: Mary Louise Tawater Roberts of San Angelo
His 2nd wife Annabelle Tawater Numerous nieces and nephews Buddy attended school in several places while growing up. He graduated from high school in Grand Saline Texas, where he met and married the mother of his children. Buddy was a champion boxer in school and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Buddy who enjoyed camping and singing was fun loving and enjoyed good company. He and a couple of friends decided they would camp out at the cemetery and serenade the dead people. However, some classmates hid behind some tombstones scaring the boys thus ending their musical campout adventure. As a young man Buddy was resourceful developing many talents from architecture to marketing. He was mechanically inclined and learned quickly hard work paid off. Serving in the air force he learned he had a knack for engineering which he used after he got out of the Air Force, while employed at Collins Radio in the Garland Dallas area. With a couple of friends Buddy opened a business of their own in the electronics field. While collaborating with other companies in that field Buddy met Dave Packard. A mutual respect and friendship developed between Buddy and Dave that resulted in a successful lifetime career with Hewlett-Packard. Upon retirement he was encouraged by his sister, Mary Lou, to check out San Angelo as the place to live. After two days of looking around he and Annabelle were signing on the dotted line. They made many friends in their new hometown and their new church San Angelo First Baptist. Buddy Joe Tawater is preceded in death by his parent, Sam and Hattie Tawater and 7 of his 8 siblings. A special heartfelt appreciation goes to his nurse Carrie for her loving care.
