Marjorie Thornton

Marjorie Thornton passed on November 27, 2016 being reunited with her Lord and family in eternal life. Marjorie was born on October 6, 1928 in Hempstead, Texas. She is preceded by her parents Robert and Irie Cox, and sister Josephine Gaunt. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne Drawbaugh of Chantilly, Virginia, and son Kevin Thornton of San Angelo, Texas. Marjorie grew up in an idyllic community of Alvin, Texas where she and her future husband Bob were childhood sweethearts. She graduated from Alvin High School in 1946. In the Alvin Yellow Jacket yearbook Marjorie was listed as the Most Beautiful Girl in her class; National Honor Society, and Coronation Queen. Upon graduation Marjorie enrolled at Baylor University in the fall of 1946. After attending college two years, Marjorie and Bob were married February 15, 1948, a marriage which would strengthen and sustain them for over fifty years. The young couple began their life together when they moved to Abilene, Texas where Bob joined the family business of Thornton’s Department Store ‘A City Within Itself. Soon after their first child Suzanne was born in May of 1949. Marjorie and Bob were active members of the First Baptist Church in Abilene until their move, in the late 1960’s to Scottsdale, Arizona. There they opened their own successful business. Their son Kevin was born in October of 1967 in Phoenix, Arizona. Returning to Texas, the family eventually set down roots in San Angelo, Texas. Marjorie was a member of Southland Baptist church community and active member in the San Angelo Garden Club and numerous bridge clubs. Marjorie was a devoted Christian, wife, and precious mother; a wonderful cook famous for her lemon meringue pies, and sour cream enchiladas; a devoted friend who would do anything to help others; her parties were cherished by all who attended; her smile and twinkly eyes would light up a room, but more importantly she made a difference in all the lives she touched. The Memorial Service will be 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Southland Baptist church with Rev. Taylor Sandlin officiating. Memorials may be made to the Southland Baptist Missionary Fund.

Pam "JuJu" Farris

Pamela “Pam” Griffin Farris, 70, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in San Angelo. Pam, lovingly known as “JuJu” to most of the world, was born February 4, 1946 in San Angelo, Texas to Buster R. and Novie H. Griffin. She was preceded in death by her mother Novie, her father Buster, two sisters, Bernice “Hoopy” Kilgore and Mamie Allen, and her husband of 22 years, Ed Farris. Pam worked in Special Education for 33 years. JuJu loved her students almost as much as her own children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing stories of her students and loved keeping up with so many of them on Facebook, up until her death. JuJu spent the last few years of her life enjoying her retirement and dedicated almost all of that time to her grandchildren. She especially loved going to their sporting events and being a “Taxi Service” for her grandchildren in their pre-driving years. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren including those in her extended family were her world and she was theirs. JuJu’s life and tremendous love for her family and students will remain in our hearts forever and she will be dearly missed by those who loved her. JuJu is survived by one son, Chris Farris (Tanna), two Daughters, Jan Lamarche (Danny), and Jaime Farris (Bobby), all of San Angelo; Six Grandchildren, Cory, Garrett, Kynsey, Meagan, Madison and Brody; Five Step-grandchildren, Whitney, Logan, Chad, Corey, and Kailey; Seven Step- Great Grandchildren; her Brother Larry Griffin (Frankie), of Cotulla, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and “claimed” Grandchildren who were very dear to her heart. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brady Lock officiating. There will be a private interment.

Lori L. Potter

Lori Lynn (Rascoe) Potter was born on Sunday, November 12, 1961 in San Angelo, TX to Clyde M. Rascoe and Joanie (Bringolf) Rascoe. She spent her childhood years with the neighborhood kids who later on became lifelong friends. Lori graduated from Central High School in May 1980. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. She spent years in different fields of work and her diverse business ventures gave her the experience to master the field and helped her to create more lifelong friends.
Lori married Dale Potter, June 12, 1982 in San Angelo, TX. They were married for 34 years. Lori and Dale volunteered with the Saturday Ramp Rollers for 10 years. 
Lori was known for her creative side and spent many hours throughout her life on projects dedicated to her children, work, and church community. She was a teacher in the HAYO program for 13 years. Lori was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010 and was a strong fighter throughout it all. The family would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Matthews and nurse, Flor of Dallas, TX, Dr. Raj Cheruku of San Angelo, TX, hospice nurses, Debbie and Shirley, and CNA, Crystal for their help during these last few months of Lori’s life that by no means defined the woman she was. 
Lori was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Joanie Rascoe. 
She is survived by her husband, Dale Potter, her daughter Kyrie Villa and her husband John Villa, her son Nolan Potter of San Angelo, her sister Bonn (Art) McSorely of Pittsburgh, PA, her brother Chilton (Joetta) Harris of Garland, TX, her aunts Betty(Nelson) Dunn of Arlington, TX, and Aunt Doris Bringolf Of Houston, TX, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rosary services will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Monday, November, 28, 2016 starting at 7:00pm. Funeral and Columbarium services will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Tuesday, November, 29, 2016 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity of your choice.

Ernestine Ruiz

Ernestine “Tina” Charles Ruiz, 67, of San Angelo, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. 

Tina was born on March 28, 1949 to Sisto and Maria (Rendon) Charles in San Angelo. She worked for Levi Strauss for over 15 years before becoming a certified nurse’s aide, as an aide she worked for Baptist Memorial Retirement Center for 6 years before retiring. On December 22, 1980, she married Guadalupe (Robert) Ruiz in Coleman, Texas. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and bringing laughter to those around her. Tina touched many lives throughout her life. Her home was a sanctuary to many. 

Tina is survived by her son, Robert Ruiz, Jr.; daughters, Rose Ruiz, Angela Ruiz; brothers, Sisto Charles, Jr., David (Mary) Charles all of San Angelo; sisters, Helen (Patrick) Lee, Olga (Timothy) Lee both of Loveland, CO, Rita (Fernando) Santillan, Linda Charles; grandchildren, Robert Ruiz, III, Raquel Jasso, Rocky Rojas and Priscilla Ruiz all of San Angelo. Along with her cherished pet chihuahua, Chiquita. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sisto and Maria Charles, husband, Guadalupe Robert Ruiz, Sr. and son, Daniel Jessie Ruiz.

Prayer service will be held at 7pm on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, with Pastor Aron Gonzales of Jireh House Ministries, officiating. Arrangements by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Charles, Jr., Mark Charles, Adam Santillan, Stephen Charles, Robert Ruiz, III and Ysaias Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Cage and Aron Gonzales.

There will be a meal for the family and friends after the graveside service at Jireh House Ministries, 1414 N. Chadbourne, San Angelo, Texas 76903

Manuel S Hernandez

Manuel S. Hernandez, 74, of Big Lake, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at his residence. 

Manuel was born on March 13, 1942 to Dario and Trinidad (Salgado) Hernandez in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. On August 5, 1964, he married Gloria Rey in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Manuel and Gloria have lived in Big Lake since 1979. He worked for Pool Well Service from 1979 until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, he became a local town fixture where everyone in Big Lake knew and loved being around Manuel. Manuel will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he has touched in a special way.

Manuel is survived by his loving spouse of 52 years, Gloria, four sons, Dario (Araceli) Hernandez, Omar (Aurelia) Hernandez, Ricardo (Cyndi) Hernandez, Humberto Hernandez; two daughters, Olivia (Juan) Garcia all of Big Lake, Nereida (Eduardo) Morales of San Angelo; two brothers, Zacarias (Carmen) Hernandez of Odessa, Alonzo (Gloria) Hernandez of Presidio; two sisters, Graciela Gonzales of Big Lake and Hilda Carrasco of Midland; seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dario and Trinidad (Salgado) Hernandez, sons, Arnaldo Hernandez and Manuel Hernandez, Jr.

Viewing will be from 11:00am to 8:00pm on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Rosary service will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Viewing will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm Noon on Monday, November 28, 2016 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church of Big Lake.

Mass service will start at 12:00pm Noon on Monday, November 28, 2016, 12:00pm at the St. Margaret's Catholic Church of Big Lake with Father Prem Thumma, officiating. Burial will follow in the Glen Rest Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you to Hospice of San Angelo and the many family members and friends that have shown such love and caring for Manuel.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of San Angelo, P O Box 471, San Angelo, TX 76902.

Roy Warren Ashley

Roy Warren Ashley, 67, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away November 19, 2016. He was born in San Angelo, Texas on June 11, 1949. Roy graduated from Central High School and worked in Boot and Shoe Repair. He was the Proprietor of Ashley's Boot and Shoe Repair and Western Wear. Roy was a decorated Vietnam Veteran serving from 1967 – 1969. During his service he received a Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the National Service Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Pearl Ashley; and two brothers, Alfred Ashley and Robert Ashley. Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Betty McCrohan and husband Dale of Glen Flora, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Roy's life will be held Friday, November 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home with burial to follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dale McCrohan, Butch Young, John Young, Ruben Burleson, and Ricky Ferguson.

Paul Lovelace Draper

aul L. Draper III passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

Paul was born in Tahoka, Texas on September 28, 1948 to Paul and Mildred Draper. The family moved to San Angelo where he grew up and graduated from Central High School. After graduating high school Paul joined the Navy to serve during the Vietnam War. Paul received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon during his two tours of duties in the Vietnam War. After serving in Vietnam Mr. Draper came back to San Angelo and went to work for GTE as a cable splicer. He would go on to work for GTE for the next thirty years before retiring. 

Paul is survived by his donut shop buddies along with many other close friends and extended family.

A Visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, November 20, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Arden Cemetery at 2:00 PM Monday, November 21, 2016.

David Garza, 59, of Lubbock, passed away on November 17, 2016 in San Angelo, TX. David Garza was born on September 15, 1957.

He is survived by 4 children, Chris Garza, April Flores, Abel Garza, Krystal Garza and 8 grandchildren.

Polly O’Neal, 91, of San Angelo, TX passed from death to eternal life in Christ Jesus on November 18, 2016. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harper Funeral Home Chapel. The Worship Celebration of her life is planned for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Southland Baptist Church of San Angelo with Dr. Benny King of O’Fallon, MO officiating.
Alice Pauline Carr was born in Chillicothe, TX on January 21, 1925 to Robert L. Carr and Mary Kate Carr who preceded her in death. On April 5,1941 she married the love of her life, Darrell O’Neal who preceded her in death in 1980. They were blessed with two children, Darrell Wayne O’Neal, and Sue O’Neal Evans.
Polly is survived by her children Darrell W. O’Neal of Victoria, TX and Sue and husband Noel Evans of San Angelo, TX. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Shelly Evans and her children and grandchildren, Michael and wife Joy along with their children Cassie and Adam, Lindsey and husband Jack and their children Bailey and Jack, Jr.; Cody and wife Britney of Tulsa, OK, and their daughter Kayley of Tulsa, OK.; Nathan Evans of Duncanville, TX; Jason and wife Mandi and their children Logan, Alora, and Hope; Anna Evans Piel and husband Andrew and their children Elena and Lara; Aaron Evans; Darrell W. O’Neal, Jr. and wife Samantha and their daughter Madelyn, and Margaret O’Neal of Victoria, TX. Also surviving her are numerous special nieces, nephews and many very close and loved friends. With so many extended families she’s always been the center of our hearts and activities. Continuing her life in education she went back to school and graduated from Angelo State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History in 1971. She taught 7th grade Texas History at John Glenn Jr. High School causing many students to “fall deeply in love with Sam Houston.”
Her love of the Lord and His Church was reflected in all her daily life. She never missed an opportunity to carry out her Savior’s Will. Polly and Darrell were members of Immanuel Baptist Church and later Southland Baptist. Having taught Sunday School for over 50 years, she was an avid Bible reader and loved studying the scriptures. She also prayed daily for her family and friends.
After her years of teaching and loving junior high students, Polly traveled all over the USA and most of the world.
Memorials may be sent to Southland Baptist Church missionary fund.

Arnulfo "Nuko" Narvaez Morales

Arnulfo “ Nuko” N. Morales, 73, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. 

He was born on January 1, 1943 to Florentino and Maria (Narvaez) Morales in Palestina, Coahuila, Mexico. Arnulfo worked at Lone Star Beef and construction. On February 28, 1965, he married Rosa Perez in Ciudad Acuna. He loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed raising little cats and dogs, being outdoors and messing with his truck.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Roberto and 2 sisters, Rosa and Amelia 


Arnulfo is survived by his loving spouse of 52 Rosa, children; Lupita (Luis Encarnacion) Morales, Arnulfo” Rey” Morales, Yolanda (Salvador) Crespo, Alfredo (Minnie) Morales, Pedro Morales and Ricardo Morales; grandchildren, Vicky, Brandy and Valerie Chappa, Yadira Morales, Miguel, Juan and Raul Rivas 3rd, Salvador, Reina, Jesus and Jaime Crespo, Joey, Maribel, Veronica, Diego and Pedro Morales Jr., Mikayla Miranda, Ricardo Xavier Morales Valles, ten great grandchildren, brothers; Audelio, Juan, Fidel, Hector, Florentino, Morales and sisters; Felicitas, Dora, Elvira and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be 1:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm Sunday November 20, 2016 at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am Monday, November 21, 2016, St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Joey Faylona, officiating. Burial will take place in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
