Dorothy Lee (Atkinson) Cross

Dorothy Lee (Atkinson) Cross went to be with her Lord on July 2, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Cross and a daughter, Donna Cross. She is survived by her son, Clayton (Clay) Cross of San Angelo and her daughter, Judy (Cross) Long of Hutto. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Doug Lubke, Ron Lubke, Dusty Hester and Danielle Cross all of San Angelo, Trenton Long of Columbus, Georgia, Trevor Long and Trey Long of Austin, Texas and Tara Long Packer of Hutto, Texas and Cindy Titus of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Mills County in the small community of Ridge to Louis and Lela Atkinson on June 25, 1922 and was the youngest of six children. Her family later moved to San Saba County where she graduated from high school at Richland Springs, Texas. After graduating, she attended and graduated from Business College in Brownwood, Texas. It was there she met her husband Clay, who was in the Air Force stationed at Camp Bowie. They were married November 18, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. The military afforded Dorothy the opportunity to travel which she enjoyed. During her life she managed to visit all 50 states and much of Europe while residing in England. After her husband's retirement from the military at Goodfellow AFB, the family settled in San Angelo and raised their family. In later years, business endeavors moved them to Del Rio, Texas where she lived and worked for Jim Hardin and the CPA firm of Hardin and Newsom for almost 40 years and permanently retired from there one month before her 90th birthday. While living in Del Rio she was an active member of the Central Church of Christ and later in San Angelo the Northside Church of Christ. After her retirement, she returned to San Angelo to be closer to her children and was currently residing at the St. Angelus Assisted Living facility. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 in the chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mavis Greenway Hughes

Mavis Pauline Greenway Hughes, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, June 30, 2016. She was born October 20, 1926 in Colbert, Oklahoma to Bert and Anna Mae (Potter) Greenway. Mavis married the love of her life John William (J.W.) Hughes Jr. on August 30, 1946. They were married for 64 years. Mavis was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. from 1957 until her retirement in June 1987 from her position as soft-line supervisor. She was a long-time and active member of First Baptist. Church, San Angelo from 1948 until her death. Mrs. Hughes was a member and past President of the Concho Pearl Lions Club, a 20 years member of Meals for the Elderly Advisory Board including a term as President of the Board, and auxiliary volunteer at the San Angelo Community Medical Center. Mavis Hughes is survived by her daughter Vicki Jefferies & her husband Greg, her son Randy & wife Belinda; grandchildren Carrie Ledet, Leigh Paille, Kelley Hughes, Randye Dunlap, Andrew Hughes (Hope),John Jefferies, and James Jefferies. Also great grandchildren Jarrett Hill, Clayton Hill, Michael Hughes Guillen, Trey Baker, Preston Hughes, and Luke Ledet. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church, San Angelo (corner of Harris & Oakes). Pallbearers will be James Jefferies, Andrew Hughes, Jarrett Hill, Clayton Hill, Michael Hughes Guillen, Trey Baker, Preston Hughes, Luke Ledet, and John Jefferies. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contribution in honor of Mavis Hughes be directed to: Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, TX 76903.

Elaine Guzman Hernandez

Elaine Guzman Hernandez, 74, from San Angelo, TX, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. 

Rosary will be held at 7pm on Monday, July 4, 2016 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Mass will be held at 10am on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at St. Marys Catholic Church with Father Joey Faylona, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Elaine was born to Prudencio H Guzman and Maria Castaneda Guzman on November 11, 1941 in Wall, TX. She had been married to Julian Hernandez for 16 years of her life and they both continued to support each other over the years. Elaine was a woman of faith and believed in the power of prayer. When situations seemed impossible, she was always provided with what was needed and came out on top. She was a very strong-willed woman, even until the very end. Elaine loved to spend time with her family. Her favorite things were collecting cookie jars, playing Mexican bingo and cooking for everyone. No one went hungry in her house and she always gave the last of anything she had. She was also the all-time babysitter for her many grandchildren. 

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Prudencio and Maria, her sisters Janelle Guzman Luna, Julia Guzman Espinosa and Irene Guzman Carrillo, and her brothers, Prudencio ‘Pete’ Guzman and Robert ‘Bobby’ Guzman. 

She is survived by her children, Maxine Hernandez Cadena and husband Hector, Linda Hernandez, Julian Hernandez and Teddy Hernandez and wife, Shelly, her sisters, Norma Martinez and husband Frank, Teresa Flores and husband Edward, her brothers, Arnold ‘Red’ Guzman and wife Virginia of Bronte and Frank Guzman and wife Florence, 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff at Cedar Manor Nursing Home for providing the compassionate care to Elaine over the past month and who have become like family.

Zedora Ynostrosa Galvan

Zedora Ynostrosa Galvan, 55, of San Angelo, passed away on Tuesday June 28, 2016 at a local care center. 

She was born on October 16, 1960 to Frank and Norma Faye (Teton) Ynostrosa in San Angelo, TX. Zedora worked as a nurse’s aide and at the San Angelo State School. On April 17, 1977 she married Abel Galvan Sr. in San Angelo. She was a strong Christian woman who loved to spend time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren and was always helping others around her.

Pallbearers will be Abel Galvan, Jr., Dante Torres, Sr., JD Cardenas, Jamie Nunez, Christopher Ynostrosa and Johnny De La Rosa, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Tony Ynostrosa, Sr. and two nephews; Jeremy Ynostrosa and Irwin Enos.

Zedora is survived by her loving spouse of 39 years, Abel Galvan, Sr., daughters, Patricia (JD) Cardenas, Ginger (Dante Torres) Galvan, sons, Abel (Bianca) Galvan, Jr., Macario Perales, stepson, Daniel Arizola, grandchildren, Izabel Torres, Dante Torres, Jr., Ajay Galvan and Gianna Torres all of San Angelo, brothers, Frank Ynostrosa, Jr., David (Rachel) Ynostrosa, Donavan Ynostrosa; sisters, Sylvia (Don) Enos, all of Wyoming, Eilleen (William) Gillespie of Dallas, step brothers, Ralph "Lito" (Chevela) Munoz of Sweetwater, Joe Munoz, Adam Munoz, step sisters; Sylvia Card, Lupe Renovato and Tammie (Jeff Mestack)Teton, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 


Funeral services will be held on 3:00 pm Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, with Pastor Mike Suarez Sr. of Joshua 1:2 Fellowship, officiating. Burial will take place in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Beverly Lively Simpson, 67, of DeLeon, Texas passed away June 30, 2016. After a long battle with Cancer, she died peacefully with her loving husband by her side. She was born in Brady, Texas on September 6, 1948. Beverly Lively graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1966. She was married to Joe Simpson May 22, 1988. Beverly worked in the administrative field for many years. She was a member of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo for 25 years. She had a passion for Music, Dancing, Antiquing and Crocheting. She is preceded in Death by her parents George "Red" Lively and Nelda Fay Roberson. She was survived by her husband Joe Simpson, Son Michael Frankie, Daughter Stacy Bertelson, husband Jasen Bertelson. 7 grandchildren Aaron Brooks, Peyton Brooks, Jaden Bertelson, Kemri Bertelson, Kallie Ybarra, Shaleigh Knapp, and Brittany Frankie. Sister Joyce Joy, Niece Kimberly McKenzie, Nephew Kevin Coffman. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016 in Paint Rock Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers: Dennis Chowning, Aaron Brooks, Jasen Bertelson, Jaden Bertelson, Kevin Coffman, and Duwayne Whiteaker.
