DeWitt Preston

06/02/2017 - 09:57 , by johnb

When we think of you, this is the quote that comes to mind: "Kindness is a language that only the blind can see and the deaf can hear". Preston DeWitt was a breath of fresh air on a sunny day. If you were having a bad day his infectious smile and laugh would light up your heart, change your mood. Never a dull moment and always had a hilarious story to tell, an amazing story teller. There is not a child in our family, or a friend around that had not been offered "a cold soda water or beer" as only he could say. Preston was always kind to our senior citizens and animals. Every day he would go by and check on the sick, shut-in and make sure our senior citizens were ok. Often he would cut lawns and run errands for free to make sure his friends were taken care of and without any mention of being paid a dime. I think the thing our family will miss the most is his respect for all people. Color never meant anything to him, he loved everyone. He always greeted everyone he knew with a sir or ma'am. His nature was always friendly and he lit up any room he was in. We were truly blessed with his goodness, it was about his character, integrity, simple acts of kindness, and moral courage that we should use as a model to treat others. Preston DeWitt, you will always be remembered as the one that kept us all laughing through the good and bad and reminding us all that if you just keep it simple we will all be alright. We will miss your beautiful, humble soul. We know that all God's chosen are here but only for a moment to watch over us all as angels. You are just doing your job from the best seat in the house. Love you and miss you so, your family. Preston was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Mary Lou Jarmon DeWitt; and his siblings, Milton DeWitt, Jr., Henry DeWitt, Harvey DeWitt, Troy DeWitt, Johnell Scott, Wanda Breland, V'Ella DeWitt and Irene DeWitt. Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Ardelia Evans and Betty Jo Irving; children, Jeffrey DeWitt, Preston DeWitt Jr., Dwayne Evans and Tinia DeWitt; several grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Christian Fellowship with burial to follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are encouraged to sign an online guestbook at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com
