Henry Martinez Hogeda, 78, of San Angelo, TX passed away May 22, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Eden, TX on June 29, 1938. He Married the love of his life Ofelia Garza on February 27, 1965. He lived a great life with his beloved wife of 52 years. Although Henry only had a third grade education he had ambition and dreams that he would go on to fulfill, making his family proud! Henry began his working life as a carpet layer before pursing his passion as a cook. He gained his culinary skills while serving his country. After his military career in the Army, Henry began his new journey as a cook at restaurant's such as Lowake Steak House, Little Mexico in Beaumont Texas and then Zentner's in Rowena before venturing out to fulfill his dream of becoming a restaurant owner. In 1973 Henry opened his first restaurant on Randolph Street now known as Martin Luther King Drive where Franco's Restaurant now exist. His passion for cooking and determination led to bigger and better restaurants like Henry's on N. Chadbourne, Enrique's at the Paseo, Little Henry's, Papa Enrique's on Pulliam, Henry's Steakhouse and Erique's in Abilene. His most successful and famous restaurant would be the Henry's Restaurant on Sherwood Way. He took pride in creating new dishes, remodeling and improving the restaurant. People would say Henry was a hard man to work for which is true, but only because he wanted the best for his customers and nothing less. He appreciated every customer and employee from the bottom of his heart. He would always say that " without happy customers there would be no Henry's Restaurant. " One of his motto's was " If you loved it, tell others, if you didn't tell me". He was well-known by his family, friends, employees, and customers as a dedicated, hardworking, firm and at the same time humorous person. He always stayed busy whether it was cooking at work, working on his yard, cleaning the pool, or just simply cleaning anything and everything! Henry was a successful businessman with his family working right along side him every day. He enjoyed taking vacations with his family especially traveling to his favorite destination Las Vegas. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He loved traveling to San Antonio to visit his daughter Karen, but after his great grandchild was born, those trips became more and more frequent. Henry was a very generous man who helped countless of people. He would buy homes, renovate them so that his employees could have a place to live. He donated to several organizations in the community . He felt blessed so he would bless others. He really enjoyed life and made the best of what life handed him. Henry was diagnosed with lung cancer and battled the disease for five months. Though his battle was short...his family is grateful to God for the quality time spent with him. All the prayers, talks, meals and family time will forever be remembered and cherished by his family. Henry leaves behind a tremendous legacy to the San Angelo community. His son Henry Jr. and daughter Rosa Torres know that it is going to be a tremendous challenge to fill those shoes, but intend on making their dad proud. He was survived by Henry Hogeda, Jr. ( San Angelo), Richard Hogeda ( Abliene), Rosa Torres and husband Steve (San Angelo); Karen Barreto and husband Willie ( San Antonio); Gloria Saenz and husband Rolando (Sugarland) daughter-in-law Linda Hogeda (San Angelo) and grandchildren Candice and Brandon Noriega, Brianna Soliz, Madelyn Torres, Noe Hogeda, Jr. Lisa Hogeda, Eric Hogeda, Raymond Villanueva, Rolando " Dito" Saenz, Jr. Stepahanie Ayvin, and Jeremy Dotson and wife Nicole; Great Grandchildern Tristen Noriega, Grey Dotson. Henry is preceded in death by his son Noe Hogeda Sr. (San Angelo); parents Severo Hogeda and Cruz Martinez Hogeda; brother Elias Hogeda and sister Otillia Guttierez. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral , Thursday, May 25, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Garden.
