Reyes Ray Montez

12/07/2018 - 11:07 , by live

Ray Montez Reyes, 74, of Big Lake went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in Midland. Ray was born October 13, 1944, in Mertzon, Texas to Jose and Juliana Montez Reyes. Ray grew up in Big Lake and attended school there.

At a young age he began selling groceries for a local store and eventually would own his own grocery store. He would go on to open his own Texaco Gas Station but would close this store and go to work in the oilfield. Ray worked for numerous oil field companies driving a truck over the years but 12 years ago started Ray Reyes Trucking Company where he worked until recently.

Ray married Gloria Arroyo Reyes on December 9, 1978 in Big Lake, Texas, and they shared 42 beautiful years together. Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather who devoted his life to his family. He was a very hard working and reserved gentleman, who also had a very strong faith in the Lord. In his spare time, he was a Crucillista and enjoyed being at home with his family.

His work ethic and strength in God was only surpassed by his love for his family. Ray will remain in our hearts forever and we will dearly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Ray is survived by his wife, Gloria Reyes, of Big Lake; his children, Jessie D. Reyes, of Big Lake, Cynthia Aguilar, of Big Lake, Melissa Perez and her husband Guadalupe, of San Angelo, Rodolfo Guerrero and his wife Myriam, of El Paso, Juan Guerrero and his wife Gloria, of Big Lake and Ray Reyes and his wife Jessica, of San Antonio; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; his sisters, Ruth Benedict, of Georgia, Delia Martinez, of Big Lake, Elva Reyes of Big Lake, and Debbie Reyes, of Big Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and close friends.

The Wake Service will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2018, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 8, 2018, at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church in Big Lake with Rev. Prem Thumma as celebrant. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Ramon Gonzales, Freddy Reyes, Junior Reyes, Chailo De Luna, Joseph Haynes, Michael Reyes, Jason Reyes and Eric Reyes.

Smith David M.

09/10/2018 - 12:56 , by zoey@hydeinter…

David M. Smith passed away on September 7, 2018 in San Angelo from a long illness. He was born on December 31, 1946 in Fort Walton, FL to Lt. Col. Roy Edward and Harriet Virginia Smith.

David was a “Military Brat” and he had the privilege of living all over the United States and in Okinawa, Japan. He graduated from Central High School in San Angelo in 1964 and Angelo State University in 1968 with degrees and teaching certificates in History and English. David taught in the San Angelo Independent School District from 1968-1969 when he was inducted into the United States Army. David was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas and Stuttgart, Germany. He was honorably discharged in December of 1969.

After his discharge, David had the wonderful opportunity to be employed by the Education Service Center Region 15 until his retirement in 2008 at which time the David M. Smith Science Lab Addition was dedicated in his name. During those years with ESC15, David served in many capacities, the last five of which were as Executive Director. David had the opportunity during those productive years to know, work with, and become close friends with many ESC15 personnel and area educators. While working for ESC15, David continued to pursue his formal education. He received his M.A. in Secondary Education from East Texas State University in 1974. He received his Mid-Management Administrative Certification from Angelo State University and his Superintendent’s Certification from Texas Tech University. David married Marylyn Goetz Tonne on October 23, 1987 and had over 30 wonderful loving years filled with accomplishments and shared experiences. Very few summers passed that you would not find David and Marylyn either in Lake City, Colorado or Ruidoso, New Mexico, or both. They enjoyed participating in family activities, The Rock Box Theater in Fredericksburg, Texas, fishing in Colorado and the banks of the Concho River, always with a cold Miller Lite in his right hand. Preceding his death, were his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Laurene Goetz.
