06/17/2019 - 09:02 , by matttrammell

Our beloved father, Fred E. McDonald, passed away peacefully at his home on June 12, 2019.
Fred McDonald was born on November 27, 1932, to Charles and Pearl McDonald. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1950. After high school, Fred worked as a Draftsman at Malden Ballard. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and continued serving in the Army Reserves until 1958. The military gave Fred the opportunity to continue his education. He dreamed of becoming an architect and was able to do so through the GI Bill. He attended San Angelo College for 2 years and finished his education at Texas Tech University and The University of Texas. While at Texas Tech, he worked as a draftsman for Page, Sutherland, Page Architectural Firm. Fred also taught drafting classes for a brief time at San Angelo College.
Fred married the love of his life, Sue Watson, on August 18, 1956. Sue and Fred spent many wonderful years together, traveling the world and raising their family. Together, Fred and Sue had three children, Melodie McDonald, Jeff McDonald and Genny McDonald Henderson.
Throughout his life, Fred worked for many architectural and engineering firms. He went on to become partners with Jack McDermott, forming McDermott, McDonald Architectural Firm. Fred’s talent in architecture can be seen in buildings throughout all of San Angelo and West Texas.
Fred was also heavily involved in the San Angelo community. He was a member of the Freemasonry where he was raised as a Master Mason with Lodge 570 of San Angelo, Texas on January 13, 1961. As a Master Mason, he obtained his 32nd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He also devoted his time to Shriners, Rotary Club, Elks Club, City Planning Commission, Industrial Developers of San Angelo and the Home Builders Association.
Fred and his wife Sue were always ready for an adventure. They enjoyed numerous trips around the world sponsored by General Electric. When Fred was not on a trip with his wife or working hard as an architect, he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his many close friends and family.
Later in life, Fred found the most joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He loved taking them on adventures and sat front row at all of their school and sporting events. He was their biggest fan and present for all of their achievements.

De Jesús Wilfredo

05/30/2019 - 21:36 , by live

Wilfredo De Jesús passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, May 2, 2019. Originally named Wilfidio, he was born to parents, Tomás and Robustina Ramos De Jesus, on October 12, 1922 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. As a young man, Wilfidio had the aspiration to "live the American dream." At the age of 16, Wilfidio pursued this dream and moved to NYC with pennies to his name. Upon reaching Ellis Island, he was renamed Wilfredo De Jesús. Although coming to the States with a limited education he did not let this stop him. Wilfredo accomplished much throughout his life, attending technical school for radio and television, working as a seafood chef at renowned NYC hotel and holding several positions at a hospital. However, according to him, one of his greatest accomplishments was finding the love of his life, Carmen. M. Salaman. They were married on September 11, 1948, resulting in two daughters: Carmen Dory De Jesús (Hayes) and Lillian De Jesús (Garza)

Wilfredo had a well-known reputation for his love and generosity. He often could be heard saying, "there's a bed and food if you need it” to many visiting guests! No one left his home with an empty stomach as he loved to cook. Wilfredo found true purpose, though, when he began studying the bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He dedicated his life to serving Jehovah on November 26, 1960 and was baptized. He touched many lives as one of Jehovah's faithful and dedicated shepherds and stored up many “treasures in heaven." (Matthew 6:20) After raising his two daughters, Wilfredo again showed the love and generosity he was known for when he adopted his niece, Jessica De Jesús (Ybarra), and raised her as his own daughter.

Wilfredo endured much throughout his life, burying his two daughters and his beloved wife before his own passing. Yet, his faith did not waver and he strongly believed in Jehovah's promise of a resurrection and a beautiful life on a paradise Earth. (Revelation 21:4) Wilfredo lived a life full of zest for almost a century until he passed away at 96 years of age. He loved to garden and bravely did so in the unforgiving West Texas heat. He was a lively storyteller and brought joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of his company! Wilfredo leaves behind a sister, two brothers, adopted daughter and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and one great grandson. It is our hope and conviction that he is safe in God’s memory and we will see him again joined by his two daughters and wife in the resurrection. There we will embrace them all with tears of joy in our eyes! (John 5:28, 29)

We wish to give thanks to the personnel at SageCrest for making Wilfredo feel at home and carrying for him as if part of their own family.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2021 Pulliam St., San Angelo, TX at 2 PM, Saturday May 25, 2019.

Amburgey Dr. Jay Kay "Jeep"

05/08/2019 - 21:46 , by live

Dr. Jay Kay “Jeep” Amburgey, 83, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, surrounded by family and friends.

A "Celebration of Life" will be Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 37 E Beauregard Ave. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Jay was born in Odessa, Texas on September 19, 1935 to Jay Dee and Jamae Amburgey. When he was four, his family moved to Casa Grande, Arizona where he spent most of his youth working on ranches and developing his love for the cowboy way of life. He returned to Odessa at seventeen and graduated from Odessa High School in 1954. Following graduation, he worked on his family’s ranch before joining the U.S Army where he served for two years in Nellingen, Germany.

Following his service in the military, he pursued his education at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He then went on to obtain both his Master’s degree and PhD from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

After completing his PhD, Jay began his career teaching at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. He then moved his family to San Angelo where he began his thirty-seven-year career as a Math Professor at Angelo State University. In addition to earning his tenure, Jay helped create a gifted math program for elementary students- MESA (Math Excellence in San Angelo); a partnership between San Angelo ISD and the Angelo State University Math Department, which allowed elementary students the opportunity to attend classes at ASU. Jay touched so many lives through his teaching, tutoring, and mentoring.

Upon his retirement from Angelo State University in 2005, he returned to his cowboy roots and bought property outside Christoval and named it Lone Oak Ranch. He built his bunkhouse and a barrage of barns and shops. Jay never grew tired of building roads, clearing land, mending fences, digging ditches, and “chopping rocks”.

Jay had many passions in life that included arrowhead hunting, motocross racing, backpacking in Big Bend, dancing, traveling, skiing, goldmining, and playing his banjo, just to name a few.

Jay’s good looks and southern charm endeared him to many. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. He was an inspiration to all with his high-octane energy, razor-sharp wit, and his ability to share his endless “tall tales” to anyone who would listen.

It would be impossible to remember Jay without acknowledging his profound faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Over the last six years, he could be found every Sunday studying the Bible for hours with family and friends at his daughter’s house. There is no need to wonder what he trusted. Till the end of his time here, he strived to tell all “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31 KJV).

Jeep is survived by Holly, his love for the last 22 years; his son, Dalton Amburgey; his daughters, Javaun Amburgey, and Vickie Shaw and her husband Keith; his granddaughter, Alexis Amburgey, his sister, Gwendolyn Sue Davis and half-brother Shane Amburgey; his nieces, Kathleen Bouscal, and Auna Hallford; his nephews, Joel Allen, Sam Allen, and Kim Hallford. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Robert Snoddy and his children, Logan, and Freeman; and Shani Snoddy and her children Ajhalei, Idrissa, and Daveon.

Jeep is preceded in death by his parents and sister, DeAun Britt; nieces, Becky Root and Karen Trout; and nephew Steve Hallford.

We would also like to extend a special thanks to Pam, Cleo and Leslie with Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of their choice.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be Joel Allen, Floyd “Bub” Amburgey, Ray Barela, Bill Henderson, Ed McElrath, Ed Olsen, Morgan Riley, Tom Schultz, Johnny Van Court, and Craig Wescott.

Miki went to work as a general assignment reporter at the San Antonio Express-News in 1973, where she met Augustus (Gus) Clemens V. Their newsroom romance resulted in their marriage on January 18, 1975. Their union produced two children, Augustus (Gus) Clemens VI in 1979 and Sarah Ross Clemens in 1982.

[[{"fid":"56982","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Miki Clemens","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"Miki Clemens"},"type":"media","field_deltas":{"1":{"format":"default","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Miki Clemens","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"Miki Clemens"}},"attributes":{"alt":"Miki Clemens","title":"Miki Clemens","class":"media-element file-default","data-delta":"1"}}]]

The couple returned to San Antonio in 1978 and worked together on a series of books. In 1980, they published The Concho Country about the Concho River region. Their son was born in San Angelo while they worked on that project. They moved to Midland, Texas, and published Legacy: The Story of the Permian Basin Region of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico in 1983. Their daughter was born in Midland while they worked on that project. Together, Miki and Gus produced more than a dozen books. Miki was a warm and loving person to all. She was a devoted grandmother. As “Mamaw” she picked her two granddaughters up from school almost every day and entertained them with trips to parks, art projects, swimming, and music. That same generous spirit motivated her work at Healthy Families. She loved music and played the piano and guitar. She loved water, the ocean and beaches and time in the family swimming pool, which she maintained. She enjoyed going to movies almost every week with her sister. She was a skilled seamstress, artist, and cook.

Jensen Darleene Joyce

12/09/2018 - 19:25 , by live

Darleene Joyce Jensen, 84 years old, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2018 in San Angelo, Texas. In her final days, she was surrounded by her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her youngest son, Paul, was holding her hand at the time of her passing.

Darleene was born on July 27, 1934 in Wynot, Nebraska to Henry and Gladys Olsen. She enjoyed her brothers, Dane and Gene, and her sister, Genia, who was also her best friend.

Darleene was called to the mission field as a teenager and attended New Tribes Mission in 1953. There, she met and married the one and only love of her life, James Walter Jensen. They were happily married for nearly 50 years until his death in 2002.

Darleene was a wonderful stay-at-home mom and missionary partner. She home-schooled her 10 children and taught them to love God, family, and country. Together with her husband, she spent 20-plus years on the Mission field, traveling and witnessing in Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Taiwan.

Darleene modeled purity, modesty, frugality, honesty, gratitude, hard work, resilience, flexibility, dedication to family, good manners, value of education, kindness, service to others, and so much more! She led a sparse life materially; yet through all the hard times, the many, tiring international moves, the never-ending needs of her children, and the subjugation of her desires to the needs of others, she always carried that beautiful smile of hers, the steadiness and grounding of a woman determined to follow God's calling, an aura of gentleness and strength, a beautiful person, inside and out.

When Darleene lost her soulmate and husband in 2002, she soldiered on for 16 more years as a prayer warrior for her loved ones, providing comfort, spirituality, advice, and love to her beloved family.

CV and Rachel Eaton: Kevin and Holly Michel (Nicholas and Kaylee), James, and Morgan.

Daniel and Julie Jensen: Brooklynn and Alexander McKinstry, and Louis.

Tim and Debi Perry: Karina, Timothy, and Matthew.

Reuben and Lisa Jensen: Logan and Taylor, Megan, Justin, Casey, Michaela and family, Vanessa, and Hope.

Steve and Holly Jensen: Kirstin and Joel Balman, Lauren, Titus, and Nathaniel.
