Navarro Pena Eugene Elmer

Eugene E. Navarro Pena “Mookies”, 26, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in his home in Abilene, surrounded by his family and friends.

Public viewing will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2019, and from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM Monday, November 11, 2019, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Monday, November 11, 2019, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at Belvedere Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Eugene was born September 6, 1993 in San Angelo. He was a resident of Abilene, since 2005, moving from San Angelo. Mookies was a 2014 graduate of Abilene High School. He enjoyed playing jokes, listening to his music, dancing, and especially loved visiting his family and friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gil and Tomasa Pena.

Eugene is survived by his parents, Gilbert and Betty Pena; four brothers, Gilbert Jr Pena and wife Melissa from Midland, Adrian Sarzosa, Adam Sarzosa, and Jose Luis Mata all from San Angelo; three sisters, Edwina and husband Ellis Beck from Kennedale, Mariah and husband Stewart Ward from Abilene, and Liza Pena from Arlington; maternal grandmother, Sylvia Rodriguez; great grandmother Lillie Rodriguez; a very close cousin, Ruben Navarro and his babe Dolores Navarro; and a very special aunt, Dolores Navarro Veliz. Mookies is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to say a special thank you to his caregiver, Shelly Garcia-Hernandez, who meant so much to him. Mookies will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family. Gone but will never be forgotten.

Joan Robin Vick

Joan R. Vick, 84, passed away from her earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 8, 2019. She was born in Dallas, Texas on October 18, 1935 to Lloyd Dexter Vick and Kathryn Powell Vick. Most of her life was spent in Dallas, Texas where she had several secretarial positions. She was highly skilled in her work and she thrived on "keeping everyone organized." Joan was a mama to two poodles for many years. She had Angel and then BB. They were the joy of her life. After the second poodle passed, she took in cats -- mostly strays.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Kathryn Vick, and her beloved brother-in-law, Ronnie Mittel, who was married to her sister, Sharon, for 57 years. She is survived by her two sisters: Judy Vick McManus and her husband, Bill, of San Angelo, and her sister Sharon Vick Mittel of Eldorado. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and several friends.

Joan's sisters moved her to San Angelo in April, 2009, so they could oversee her care. She had spent the last eight years at Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center where her daily needs had been met by a loving staff of compassionate, skilled caregivers. Her family will be forever grateful for the care Joan received.

Joan's life will be celebrated at a graveside service on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 2 pm at Christoval Cemetery.

Martin James Daniel

James Daniel (JD) Martin was born January 3, 1932, in Menard County, Texas, to Elsie Hight and CO Martin. He spent his early years in the Menard and London area and attended school in Menard. He then settled in San Angelo where he married the love of his life Gertrude Yeager on May 5, 1956.

As a young man, JD worked bailing hay, building cement tanks, and other miscellaneous jobs until he joined the US Army to serve in the Korean War where he was awarded a Bronze Star. After returning from the war, he went to work in the restaurant supply business. He worked several years at B&H Restaurant Supply and then at Angelo Refrigeration & Supply, where he managed the soft goods department until his retirement.

He was a 60+ year member of the Masonic Lodge, where he had served as a Master Mason. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Some of his grandest memories are the times he spent hunting, fishing, and riding four wheelers with his family and friends. The place he most loved and enjoyed spending time was at Turtle Ranch.

He is survived by his children Doug and Rhonda Martin and Brian and Jolonna Martin of Levelland, TX, and Kathy and Milton Sargent of San Angelo, TX, grandchildren Bradley and Erin Sargent, Preston and Jeannie Martin, Bobby and Whitney Martin, Daniel Martin, Travis Sargent and Brittney Chastain, Callie and Jerry Tennell, Brent and Marissa Martin, Clayton and Mattie Sargent, Paige Martin, and Brock Martin. His 16 Great Grandchildren called him Superpop and were his biggest joy. He is also survived by Sister Wanda and Fred Wilson and brother Bender and Marilyn Martin, both of San Angelo; sisters-in-law Betty Fulgham and Martha Brassie, and brother-in-law Toby Yeager, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend Bobbie Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years; sister Louise Wall and husband, JB Wall; and Brother Ray Martin and wife, Brenda Martin; and grandson, Denver Priess.
Visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 10 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with Bobby Roger officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 PM at Little Saline Cemetery in London, TX. Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Special thanks to Dr. Charles Marsh for saving Dad’s life early on and for his many years of care and treatment; Dr. Marsh’s nurse, Donna for her role in Dad’s care; to the VA and VA Nurse MaryAnn for the amenities and help supplied the last couple years to make Dad’s life easier; to Angela Wray with Visiting Angels; and to the residents and staff of Lyndale for welcoming our Dad and becoming his newest friends and extended family.

Jimmy Acosta Carrasco Sr. went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2019 in Lubbock, Tx. Jimmy was born to Genaro Acosta Carrasco Jr. and Antonia Samaniego Argo on February 23, 1963 in San Angelo, Tx. Jimmy was known for playing a good game of handball and being the life of the party. He was preceded in death by his Father, and Brothers Daniel Carrasco Sr., and Alex Carrasco Sr. Jimmy is survived by his Children Trina D Carrasco, Jimmy A Carrasco Jr., and Adam D Duran (Candice); his Grandchildren Jacobi Reynolds, Mackenzie Fay, Nevaeh Carrasco, Gabriella Duran, Izaiah, Pia, Uriah, and Isa Duran; his Mother; Brothers Joe Carrasco, Genaro Carrasco lll, and Johnny Carrasco; and also by numerous Nieces and Nephews. There will be a Rosary on Monday, November 11, 2019 @7pm at Harper Funeral Home. Burial will be on Tuesday, November 12,2019 @2pm at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden.

Steele Ronald Lee

Ronald Lee Steele, 69, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on November 7, 2019, one day prior to his 70th birthday.

Ron was born November 8, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas to Chet and Pauline Steele. Like his father, he had a passion for flying and obtained his private pilot license at the age of 18. Later, he attended Austin College and then worked several years as a photographer. Ron then changed careers to become an
Air Traffic Controller. He retired from the FAA after 26 years.

Ron enjoyed traveling and playing golf for several years at Bentwood Country Club. In addition to these interests, he had a love for Bichon Frise’ dogs. He and his wife spent 18 years fostering and adopting Bichon’s through Small Paws Rescue. Ron spent his last years as a member of Word of Life Assembly of God Church, where he grew to love our Almighty God.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Chet and Pauline Steele.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Charlene Kaye Steele; one brother, Alan Steele; two sisters, Janet Herbert and Carol Steele; two step-daughters, Laura Weber, Cara Thorwald and their husbands; 2 granddaughters, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, November 11, 2019 at Word of Life Assembly of God Church with David and Gaynell Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Bartlesville, Oklahoma at a later date.

Maria Acosta, 80, of San Angelo, passed away on November 9, 2019. A Rosary will be read on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North, located at 1002 N Oakes St, San Angelo, Texas. Graveside Services will be on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Acosta, her son Freddie Acosta and wife Linda; daughters Estella Acosta, Dora Martinez and husband Mauricio and Mary Doris Acosta. Other survivors include her brothers, Roy Contreras, Juan Contreras, Robert Contreras and Martin Contreras; sisters Ramona Renteria, Delia Enriquez and Carmen Salinas; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Navarrette, Michael Martinez, Joel Navarrette, Mario Moreno III, Isaiah Ortiz, Gavin Strickland and Jacobie Moreno.

Mario Zavala Trevino “Taz”, 69, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in San Angelo surrounded by family.

Public viewing will be Saturday, November 9, 2019, and Sunday, November 10, 2019, from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM, with the Rosary being prayed Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 6:00 PM at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 11, 2019, St. Mary’s Catholic with Father Joey Faylona officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mario is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cruz; his three sons. Dominic, Eugene and wife Monica, Jeremiah and wife Amber; his nine grandchildren, Brandon, Haleigh, Jackie, Jathan, Leyla, Sierra, Steven,Ector, and Lexey; and four great-grandchildren. Taz will join his parents and infant brother in eternal life.

Mario was born on January 13, 1950, in San Angelo to Lorenzo Trevino and Mary Zavala. He attended Central High School where he met the love of his life Cruz Martinez and after they graduated in 1969 they were married on November 14, 1970. Mario was taken into the large loving Martinez clan where they embraced his larger than life personality and wicked sense of humor. Together they raised their sons on LaSalle St where he opened his home to many. He never met a stranger and was quick to welcome and mentor the young men he crossed paths with. Mario was a very loyal and proud employee for 46 years at Atmos Energy formerly known as Lonestar Gas until retirement in 2016. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St Margaret’s adoration chapel. He was passionate about his Cowboys and was the leader of Taz’s Cantina where he hosted many gatherings. The only thing he loved more was his grandkids which he referred to as his “bebotes chulotes” or pretty babies.

Pallbearers will be some of Mario’s closest friends; Art Garcia, Mike Garivay, Freddie Lopez,Tomas Sosa, Rick Perez, Pancho Martinez, Mark Martinez, and Jerry Lara. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Trevino, Jathan Trevino, and Steven Delgado.

Adelita Guerra, 74, of San Angelo, passed away on November 7th, 2019. She was born in San Angelo, TX on May 22nd, 1945. Adel graduated from Central High School, after which she worked in retail sales for many years and also served as a Private in the U.S. Army in 1967. She married the love of her life Juan Guerra on January 30th, 1989 in San Angelo. Adel was passionate about drawing, traveling with Juan, and most of all hosting friends & family in her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband Juan Guerra, her mother Juanita Sosa Flores, her step-father Sam Flores, & her father Manuel Gonzales Sr. Adel is survived by her brothers Manuel Gonzales & wife Amanda, Robert Gonzales, plus her sister Linda Deaton & husband Wendell. She is also survived by her special aunt Clara Sosa, her wonderful cousins Teri & Olga, along with many other beloved cousins, nieces & nephews. Adelita was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Johnson's Funeral Home. Public visitation will occur on Monday, November 11th from 5 - 7 PM, followed by a rosary service from 7 - 8 PM in Johnson's Funeral Home's chapel. Catholic mass will occur on Tuesday, November 12th at 10 AM at St. Margaret's, followed by a graveside service at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Veteran's Home, as well as the staff at Scenic Mountain Medical Center's ICU.
