Laverne Freda Urbantke Sipes passed away March 30, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Freda Urbantke; brothers, Floyd, Earl, and Leroy; as well as her husband of 68 years, Edward R. Sipes. In 1952, while living in Amarillo, Laverne met and married a handsome enlisted Air Force man named Edward. The Air Force moved them to San Antonio, but it wasn't long before Edward was stationed overseas to England. So, at age 25, she bravely boarded a plane with her children Jeff (2 ½), Marilyn (1) and Elaine (6 weeks) old to join her husband in the UK. They lived in the small village of Cley Next the Sea. While there, her sons Eric and Charles were born. Having twins born in that village was a special event. As an Air Force wife, she also lived in Idaho, North Dakota, New Mexico, Washington DC, and other places. When her daughter, Elaine, was stationed in Germany with the Army, Laverne traveled to Europe to visit her and was able to make a return trip to Cley where she was able to meet up with some of her friends from long ago.

Laverne grew up in Miles where she was the valedictorian, class of 1950. She was an active lifetime member of the United Methodist Women's organization where she enjoyed the fellowship of her friends for years. She was also a proud, longtime member of the Concho Pearl Lions Club.

She loved many crafts, but quilting was a passion. Over the years, she created many beautiful quilt tops and her daughters, Elaine Lopez and Marilyn Sanders, were able to finish her entire "stash" of about 20 and give them out to relatives. Mom's final instructions to her girls was... "Please don't stop quilting!"

Laverne's desire was to see her great grandson, Anthony Lopez, graduate from high school in May. She was almost able to do that! We thank Ian Lopez, grandson, for his help in her care during her hospice time at home. Thanks to Eric for all the shopping, driving, fixing, helping, etc. these last few years. Huge thanks to Elaine for moving in with mom and dad when that extra help was needed. Laverne, mom, will be greatly missed by her friends and family, but will always be remembered and loved.

Memorial graveside services will be planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

James Herman Timm, 89, of San Angelo, Texas, passed from this life into his savior’s arms on April 4, 2024 at Brayden Park assisted living facility. James was born March 23, 1935, in San Angelo to Walter Oscar and Maudie Lee Rex Timm.

He had a wonderful childhood working on the farm in Veribest, swimming in the Concho River, and playing marbles with friends at Ft. Concho Elementary, where his mother was the cafeteria manager. After high school he married Connie Marshall and briefly attended San Angelo College. He worked at Foremost Dairy delivering milk and Monarch Tile while still helping out at the farm. He enjoyed summers at the hot springs area in Big Bend, where they would stay for weeks, camping on the river.

His retail career began at JC Penny’s where his favorite boss, Keith Box, hired him to run the shoe department and later, the women’s ready-to-wear. After many years of working at Penny’s all day and plowing until dark, he opened Mr. Boots western wear near the village shopping center in 1974. He partnered with Bill Connally for 23 years, then in 1999, James became the sole owner once again, along with his sons, Walter and David. Working alongside his boys were some of the best times of his life. He never took credit for the success of Mr. Boots, always pointing at his sons, saying, “THEY did this.”

If you knew James Timm at all, you know he loved the Lord. Even in the midst of rapidly declining health and on the worst of days at Seton Medical in Austin, he prayed and recited scripture in his sleep. We know, Dad, that your soul has, at last, found peace.

Preceding James in death are his parents, his sister, Alice Stewart, sister Minnie Bell Turner, and his beloved son Walter.

He is survived by his son David, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer. He is also survived by four granddaughters – Tara Carver (Tony) of McKinney, Mindy Bean (Tyler) of Carrolton, Macy Smithson (Cevan) of San Angelo and Miranda Timm of Lubbock. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren Theo, Drake, and Merritt Carver; Shepard Bean, and Sadie and Charli Smithson. James is survived by his sister, Rita Specht (John), niece Theresa Holloway, and host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will be Tuesday, April 9, at Mullins Cemetery at 3:00 PM.

A special thank you to Dal Rozzlle, Jim White, Mike Truet, and the gang at Catfish Corner for being such devoted friends to Dad and an encouragement to our family. Joey Guzman, 42, of San Angelo passed away on April 4, 2024, in San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his fraternal and paternal grandparents, Lorenzo Guzman and Zaragosa and Emelia Beserra. He is survived by hi parents, Frank Guzman, Sr., and Isabell Guzman, his siblings, Frank Guzman, Jr., Amos Guzman and Amber Guzman Rios; his children, Anthony Guzman, Zachary Guzman and Celeste Guzman. He will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends! There will be a private ceremony for close family and friends.

We love you Joey!

Albert Dean Gaddis, 74. passed away on April 1, 2024 at a local hospital in San Angelo, TX. He has lived in San Angelo, TX for the past several years. He was born on June 3, 1949 in Tyler, Tx to Rudolph 'Rudy' Gaddis, famous musician of East Texas, and Virginia Hearon, in which both have preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School, and attended TJC in Tyler, Tx. He worked for Tyler Water and King Chevrolet in Tyler. One of his favorite things was anything related to vehicles. He loved working on cars, trucks, and etc. especially the classics. Along with really enjoying working with his hands and fixing things. He loved to dance and danced pretty well. Funny, helpful, and a fixer of many things. This was just the kind of man he was and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He leaves behind three daughters and two son-in-laws Angela and Steve Martin of Davenport, FL, Sandra and Jeff Finn of San Angelo, TX, and Hollie Gaddis of Winona, TX. He also leaves behind 5 Grand kids and 1 Great-Grandchild and also 1 Great-Grandchild on-the-way. He leaves behind an ex-wife, Charolett Howard of Frankston, TX. Also one niece one nephew and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Sarah Raynell Rodriguez (Taylor) of Tyler, TX, his first wife Jeane Sue Adkins (Francisco) of Tye, TX, a granddaughter, Charity Kemp (Wise) of San Angelo, TX, and a son, Sam Howard, infant, of Frankston, TX.

Our dear friend and Spiritual Sister Bobbie passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 25, 2024. Bobbie was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and loving Sister. 

Bobbie Dean Rice Mhoon was born May 3, 1936 in Bazette, TX in Navarro County to Damon and Mildred Schultz Rice. She grew up 6th of 11 children. When 17, she met Sanford Daly Mhoon, one of the neighborhood boys, on a blind date. Soon they were married, January of 1954. At the time of marriage Sanford was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, so they settled in San Antonio, moving to San Angelo around 1958. Just two months ago, they celebrated their 70th anniversary. 

In 1960, after moving to San Angelo, a pivotal point in Bobbie's life occurred when two of Jehovah's Witnesses called at her door. Bobbie began studying the Bible with Grace Holder and Ollie Simmons. At first Sanford struggled with neutrality  but continued studying along with Bobbie. Soon, they were baptized together in the North Concho River in April 1961. At this time four of their six children were born. The twins came in 1965. 

Bobbie spent her life raising children and serving Jehovah in the Allendale and Riverside congregations in Austin, and River Park in San Angelo. She and Sanford were so much fun to be around they had no trouble making many friends among Jehovah's people. In the summer she would auxiliary pioneer or spend 60 hours helping others to learn of the hope Jehovah gives. She would be accompanied by her children and relied on many friends due to not having a car.  She and Sanford greatly enjoyed pioneering and serving Jehovah together faithfully through the years. 

Bobbie is preceded in death by an infant son, Jason. She is survived by her husband Sanford. Six children, William, Glenn (Deborah), Cindy (David), Barbara Sullivan, Quinton (Priscilla) and Vincent (Desiree). Also 20 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was always a loving mother to us all and will always be missed. 

Florence Fielder McKinney, age 91, of San Angelo, Texas went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Florence or "Flo," as she was known by most, was born and grew up in Henan, China , as a child of Missionary parents. She was the youngest of 5 children. 

Flo moved to the United States with her family when she was 15 years old. After graduating High School, she went to Baylor University where she met her husband and life long love of her life, L.G. McKinney. She eventually went on to earn her Master's Degree from Texas Christian University in Special Education. Flo worked as a diagnostician to help special needs children succeed in learning and living a full life.

More recently, Flo was very involved with Auxiliary at the Baptist Retirement Community. Always gregarious, she loved spending time with friends and her infectious laugh and compassion will never be forgotten.

Flo is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her 4 siblings, her grandchildren: Anya and Annalise. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Daniel McKinney (Rebecca); her daughter, Debra Childers (Virgil), as well as her grandchildren: Ariel, Aaron, Gavin, Adriana and Angela, nieces and nephews.

Psalm 23:6 - Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord, forever.

Memorial service to be held at the Baptist Retirement Community Chapel on April 12th, 2024 at 2PM.

Phyllis Louise Walcott, or “Memom” as she was affectionately known, was born March 22, 1941, in San Angelo Texas to Herbert Dixon Affleck and Veronica “Betty” Affleck. Phyllis was the eldest of 3 children, Robert “Bobby” Affleck, who preceded her in death, and Dianne Faith. Phyllis attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School. When Phyllis was in first grade she would meet her future husband, fourth grader Ronald Dale Walcott “Ronnie”. Ronnie and Phyllis, against all the odds, would be married on May 20, 1957. This union would spring the birth of four children; Laura Dale Richter, Kristi Ann Stone, Dennette Marie Shoob, and Ronald Michael “Mike” Walcott. As the matriarch of the Walcott family, Phyllis would pave the way for Ronnie to begin laying the foundation together for Aladdin’s Carpet Company. They opened their doors in 1968, and are still providing services to the Concho Valley to this very day. Another great joy for Phyllis was when she became a grandmother and was granted the name “Memom”. Phyllis was known for her numerous attributes. She held an unbreakable faith in our Lord and her husband and children. Her kindness and patience were infinite and unwavering. She was truly the pillar of her family, and her empathic nature had the valiance to overcome the most turbulent of times in the lives of all whom she encountered. On March 31, 2024, Phyllis left her earthly home and entered the kingdom of heaven. Her light will never truly be replicated but will live on in her surviving Husband, 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several pets that she loved dearly.

The rosary will be 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Msgr. Larry Droll as celebrant. The burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Marvis Louise Gay Wilburn was born in West Greene, Alabama, to Irving and Audrey Burton Gay on April 4, 1925. Known affectionately as "Meme" or "Aunt Sissy" by so many relatives, she will be remembered for her compassionate heart, caring, loving, giving, and thoughtfulness. One of her greatest joys was sending birthday cards to relatives and friends. She was a grocery store worker for many years before entering the nursing profession in 1966. This was a dream come true from the young age of fifteen. She retired in 1990. Marvis loved volunteering her time, such as serving on her church's Bereavement Committee, cooking and baking desserts. Her hobbies were painting, crocheting, quilting, cooking, canning, and gardening. Only recently, we learned that she enjoyed writing poetry that started as a young girl on the farm. Marvis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dewral "Bud" on September 25, 1995, after 52 years of marriage; twin sister Margaret; brothers Roy, Clyde, James and Irvin; sister Mary Elizabeth. 

She is survived by sons Alfred Wilburn and Robert Alton Wilburn. Grandchildren Brett Wilburn; Keith Wilburn (Hope) and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Justin, Braden and Lily, and great-great granddaughter Salem; Todd Wilburn (Joni) and great-grandchildren Amber and Brooke and great-great grandson Eli. Many nieces and nephews. Marvis asked that relatives, friends, and neighbors be thanked and recognized for their many years of help and assistance that enabled her to live independently in her home until age 92. Thank you to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Reagan County Care Center for their loving care and kindness. And to the doctors and medical staff at Reagan County Hospital, who gave care to her many times. 

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, Texas, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. 

Interment will be at the Glen Rest Cemetery Pavilion immediately after the funeral. 

The service will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube at First Baptist Church Big Lake Texas.

Terri Chance Teed, age 62, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Juan Holguin Fernandez, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in San Angelo surrounded by his family.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Very Rev. Santiago Udayar, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Juan was born April 21 1931 in St Thomas, North Dakota. He held many jobs in his young life including field work, landscaping, janitorial and various kitchen jobs. After saving money for years, he and his wife Anita opened their first business in 1964 called the Topo Chico Bar then preceded to buy the Taxco Cafe which they rebranded into Fernandez Cafe in 1967. Juan took great pride in his restaurant and made it a point to come out from the kitchen and personally check on his customers to ensure his food was always hot and delicious. His restaurant became famous for their well-known salsa and enchilada sauces. His family continues to use his special recipes to this day at Fernandez Restaurant. In addition to owning a business, he enjoyed watching sports and running his famous football pots. He loved dancing and even won first place in a Mambo dancing contest. He could always be seen helping his sons with their concerts and events. Being young at heart, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking them out to eat regularly. He made several friendships throughout his lifetime and will be remembered for his contagious laughter and smile.

Juan is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Terrazas and husband Mike, Elsa Rodriguez and husband Roy; and a son, Johnny Fernandez and wife Sonya; two brothers, Ernesto Fernandez, and Margarito Fernandez; and two sisters, Trinidad Fernandez, and Amalia Fernandez; several grandchildren, Michelle Chapa and husband Daniel, Jason Fernandez, Lisa Terrazas and fiancé Casey Straughn, Andrew Fernandez and wife Monica, Roy Rodriguez and Lorenzo Rodriguez; several great grandchildren, Olivia Tobias, Michael Chapa, Isabella Chapa, Baylee Fernandez, and Memphis Leopard, as well as one great-great grandchild, Camila Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eligio and Emilia Olguin Fernandez; three brothers, Jose Fernandez, Anastacio Fernandez, and Marcial Fernandez; and two sisters, Margarita Fernandez, and Enriqueta Fernandez.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Anita; and children Jose Carrillo, Mike Carrillo, Juanito Fernandez, Yolanda Fernandez, and Robert Fernandez.

Pallbearers will be Jason Fernandez, Andrew Fernandez, Roy Rodriguez, Lorenzo Rodriguez, Daniel Chapa, III and Jaime Rangel. Honorary Pallbearers will include Tony Andros, Naco Valadez, Freddie Biera, Henry Hogeda, Jr, and Tommy Andros.

The family wants to thank the team from Interim Hospice, specifically Bailey Baker and Espi Ramirez. Their care and compassion were appreciated during this difficult time.
