Jimmy Francis Bell, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on April 9, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on September 25, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents Thomas Ila and Frances Stuart Bell. Jimmy was a 1958 graduate of Tulsa’s East Central High School. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. It was while he was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force base, he met Nancy Guess at a 4th of July party. Jimmy and Nancy were married December 18, 1959, at Koberlin Primitive Baptist Church. While in the Air Force Jimmy and Nancy were joined by two children. Mark Allen Bell was born in San Antonio while they were stationed there. Rebecca Alice Bell was born in San Angelo, while Jimmy was stationed at Shemya in the Aleutian Islands. After departing the Air Force in 1963, the couple settled in Big Spring and then relocated to Dallas. While they were living in Dallas, David Anthony Bell was born, completing the family. After Dallas, the family settled in San Angelo in 1969. While in San Angelo, Jimmy sold life insurance for American National and then later, Jefferson Standard. In 1971, he transferred to Denver, Colorado with Jefferson Standard. After a year in Denver, the family returned to San Angelo to stay.

In the early 1980’s, Jimmy was become disillusioned with the insurance business and decided to dip in the oil field. He started as a mechanic helper in Big Lake and in six months decided to open a pumpjack engine repair service here in San Angelo with a partner. The business transformed from primarily service to sales. Jimmy would “run the roads”, buying and selling oilfield equipment. He knew every mechanic shop from Eastern New Mexico to Alabama and from South Texas and Kansas. He also knew what they needed and where to get it. He retired from oil field sales in 2012.

While in San Angelo, Jimmy and Nancy were active in the Fannin Elementary PTA, Northern Little League, and officers of the Lake View Athletic Booster Club. The Bell family were members of Lindell Avenue Baptist Church and the later, Edmund Boulevard Baptist Church.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nancy. Also preceding him in death are brothers-in-law Warren P. Aldridge & Norman Guess, his sisters-in-law Marion Aldridge & Ruth Guess, brothers Tommy Bell & Johnny Bell, sister Barbara Dye and nephews Ray & Martin Aldridge.

He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Mark & Jeanne Bell of San Angelo, Becky & Henry Cash of San Angelo, and Dave & Genese Bell of San Antonio. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Betty Ward of Owasso, Oklahoma.

Jimmy was called “Pop” by his grandchildren, and they are: Joshua & Megan Frasier of San Angelo, Jacob & Brianna Frasier of Ballinger, Hayden & Elyssa Bell of College Station, Grayson & Elyse Bell of Midland, Lucas & Lauren Bell of San Angelo, Allison Bell of San Angelo, Erin Bell of San Antonio, Marshall & Rissa Cash of Boerne, and Brittney & Pat Riley of Nederland. Also special to Jimmy, were his 16 great-grandchildren, nieces from Big Lake and nephews from Jal, New Mexico.

Pop was a colorful character. He said he could sell a ketchup popsicle to a lady wearing white gloves. He loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren. Jimmy always ready to go on an impromptu trip, whether it be to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 Baseball Tournament or to Abilene to Olive Garden. As a young man, he enjoyed drag racing-lamenting the day he sold his Oldsmobile 442. His most enduring trait was his love for animals. If a bird had nested in equipment he needed to move, he waited for the eggs to hatch before he move the needed equipment. He also loved his dachshunds. Gretchen, Frank and Frannie were nearly as special as his kids.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 11th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Harpers Funeral Home. Pop’s funeral service will be at 1:30 at Harpers and a graveside service will be afterwards at 2:30 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Dr. Todd Gray, of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, Brownwood, Texas, a longtime friend of Pop’s and honorary grandson, will serve as officiant. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Mark, Becky and Dave would like to thank Cassandra, Lindsey, Roxanne, Jacob, and Kim at San Angelo Nursing Home for their loving care they provided to our father. We would also like to thank Lewis his roommate, and Steve his across the hall neighbor for keeping dad out of trouble.

Sherre McClung Tankersley peacefully passed from her earthly home on Friday, April 5 after complications from a fall. Sherre, a lifelong resident of San Angelo, was born on June 26, 1941, to Jack and Lorene McClung. She graduated from Central High, San Angelo College and Texas Tech. She met her future husband, Max Tankersley, in San Angelo, and together raised their family enjoying many great times.

Sherre was also a lifelong teacher, having taught her sister to read years before entering Santa Rita, the neighborhood elementary school. All four McClung siblings, as well as the Tankersley children, Will and Amy, attended Santa Rita where Sherre later taught second grade for 40 years. 

Sherre’s special skills enabled hundreds of San Angelo students to enjoy reading. Around town she was always recognized as “Mrs. Tankersley!” or “Tank” by former students and fellow teachers. 

As a sports fan, Sherre cheered for her son’s tennis matches whether he was playing or coaching; she loved watching Cowboys play with her daughter and son-in-law; she encouraged her parents’ love of riding competitions. Sherre deserved the most applause for her ability to persevere after numerous health problems and always to reach for joy. 

Sherre will be greatly missed by her son Will Tankersley and daughter Amy Tankersley Hill, son-in-law, Garren Hill, sister Jode Johnson and brother Neill McClung and his wife Kim. She will also be missed by granddaughter, Trinity Southall, who has been a light in her life. She is preceded in death by parents, Jack and Lorene McClung and brother Jack Edward McClung. 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12th at 1 p.m. in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel 435 W. Beauregard Ave San Angelo,TX. 76903 with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please bring a children’s book level k through 5 that will be donated to Santa Rita Elementary.

Morris Kay Rowlett, age 67, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024. 

A visitation for Morris will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. A graveside service will occur Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Fairmount Cemetery, 1120 West Avenue N, San Angelo, Texas.

Wanda Lou Turk (Cook) passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024. She was born on April 10, 1938, to Mary Faye Cypert and Herbert Turk in Abbott, Texas. Wanda graduated high school in Jal. New Mexico. She worked as a secretary in the 1970s at Sonora High School and always remained a proud Sonora Bronco. She also held positions as a bookkeeper for the Mertzon Woolhouse and she worked part time in advertising sales. Throughout her adult life Wanda was an active member and leader in the Texas Presbyterian Women organization. After moving to San Angelo in 2005, she volunteered through the women’s auxiliary at Baptist Memorial and Area Agency on Aging. She obtained several certificates and pins for her continued dedication to volunteer work.

Wanda was an avid knitter and crocheter, although her sweaters sometimes were meant for those with three arms. She was always working on a project, and she loved to make blankets and scarves for her loved ones. Wanda also enjoyed playing mah jong, reading, watching movies, and attending theatre events. Music was also a big part of her life. She played the church organ, worked for a radio station, and even into her later years knew all the words to most Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, and Elvis songs. She could sing most Presbyterian hymns by memory, which is no small feat.

Wanda cherished her time spent with family. She loved wholeheartedly being an aunt, mother, and grandmother and she will be remembered as the best.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Faye and Herbert Turk, her brother Ed Turk, sister-in-law Bobbie Jo Turk, her son-in-law Steve McCollum, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her Son John David Cook, her daughter, P.J. Earhart (Dick Earhart), her one and only granddaughter, Lauren McCollum (Bayley Masera), J.D. Cook all of San Angelo; her nephew Doug Turk and Angie Turk, Maggie Turk and Eddie Turk of Livingston; cousins Charlotte Barr of Hillsboro and Carolyn Bennett of Corsicana, Texas.

A memorial service with will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at St. Mark Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am.

Rachel Susan "Sue" Baucham Lang Williams, 81, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 surrounded by her family.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Friday, April 12, 2024 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at St. Paul Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Rachel Susan(Sue) Baucham Lang Williams was born on April 29, 1942 to Fountain and Gradie Lee Jackson Baucham in McCamey.(3rd oldest child) Sue attended school in McCamey at Dunbar Elementary, Jr High and graduated from Dunbar High School. She united with South Union Baptist Church at 11years old and baptized. As a faithful servant, she served as Sunday School Clerk, Youth Leader and Choir Soloist for many years. She was a member of the "The Miss Ebony Club" (Stokes/Parker District Black Women's Club) Sue excelled in academics on state level and participated in all sports offered by Dunbar High School.

Sue married Hurseful Lang in McCamey in 1959 and moved to Mesa, Arizona as he served in the United States Airforce. In 1969, she returned to TX and made San Angelo her home with her children. Sue immediately united with St Paul Baptist Church. She attended San Angelo Business College. She worked at San Angelo State Supported Living Center two years. After a short stay in Fairbanks, Alaska, Ft Walton Beach, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama she returned to San Angelo in 1978. Sue reunited with St Paul Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. Sue enjoyed singing in the choir, instructing art classes in Vacation Bible School and always cherished serving our Lord with her numerous gifts mostly at St Paul Baptist Church.

Sue married her best friend, lover and protector John Williams Jr in Spring 1983. They spent 27 years together helping the San Angelo Community prosper.

She leaves 32 survivors to always remember how much she loved her family. Sue's five children who cherish her precious memory are Patricia White Thompson, Rochelle Lang, Paul Lang, Sabrina Lang and Cecelia Lang. Sue's forever in her heart 6 grandchildren, Stephen DeWitt, Marcia Jones (Felsia), Terry White, Gary White, Mark Brown and Erica Lang. She adored her 12 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grands. Sue is survived by 4 brothers and 2 sisters, numerous first cousins she considered sisters and brothers.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, John Williams Jr, parents, Fountain and Gradie Lee Baucham and oldest brother, Donald Leonard Jackson Baucham.

Sherry Ileen Clift, of San Angelo, passed away on April 6, 2024. She was born on October 19, 1946, in San Angelo, TX, to Cecil and Leta “Jean” Turner.

Sherry attended and graduated from Lake View High School. She married James Donald “Don” Clift on August 15, 1968, and had one child, Sherry Sue Clift Hall.

Throughout the years, Sherry worked for General Telephone, managed a franchise restaurant with Don, and finally settled into her final career for News Photo as a layout editor, where she received Employee of the Year in 1998. After years of a job she truly enjoyed, she retired in 2008.

Once a member of San Angelo Bass Club, Sherry was an avid fisherman in her younger years and could be found most weekends in her kayak on the lake with her fishing pole. She was also well known for her green thumb and her beautiful crochet. Her home was the place where sick plants came to life when everyone else had given up hope!

She had a passion for words and loved a great crossword puzzle. Dictionaries and thesauruses were constant companions, along with many, many skeins of yarn and her crochet needles. She touched so many lives with her beautiful, crocheted afghans and had been working on them and sharing them until her passing.

A memorial service will be held on April 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at San Angelo Cowboy Church.

Sherry is preceded in death by her father Cecil Turner, her mother Jean Turner, her husband Don Clift, and her nephew Christopher Tiftickjian.

Her survivors include daughter Sherry Hall and husband Gayland, sister Angie Turner, grandchildren Justin Hall and Amanda, Kris Hall and Stephen Winkel, great grandchildren Whitney Hall White and Jeremiah, Madison Hall, Tyler Hall and fiancé Lindsey Larremore.

Survivors also include nephews and nieces Cody Tiftickjian, Andrew Tiftickjian, Heather Durst, and Holli Hasserodt.

Le sobreviven su esposa Benita Rodriguez, sus hijos y hijastros, Arturo Rodriguez (Angelica), Elena Terrazas, Enriqueta Rodriguez, Tula Mireles (Oscar), Juan Antonio Guerrero (Janeth) al igual sus nietos Albert Terrazas (Samantha), Andrew Rodriguez, Alan Rodriguez (Ashlie), Austin Rodriguez, Antonio Mireles (Maricela), Sebastian Mireles, Larizza Mireles, Regina Guerrero, Juan Diego Guerrero, Juan Pablo Guerrero y un bisnieto Acaelus Rodriguez.

Gila H. Gonzales, 78, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Public viewing will be 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, with a Prayer service being at 6:00 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Bethel Assembly Church with Pastor Israel Flores, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gonzales was born September 1, 1945 in O'Donnell to Isidro and Sista Hernandez. She has been a lifelong resident of San Angelo since. Gila married Henry "Enrique" Gonzales on April 17, 1960 in San Angelo. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1988. She was a homemaker. Gila loved dancing and cooking. She was loving and "motherly" to everyone. Gila was a member of Bethel Assembly Church and loved going to Church. Gila never failed to call her children and wish them "Goodnight and God Bless You".

Survivors include her special companion, Johnny Pena of San Angelo; her four children, Sandy Martinez and husband Johnny, Henry Gonzales, Jr., Lisa Ybarra, and Irma Martinez and husband Edward all of San Angelo; three sisters, Elida Rodriguez, Minga Delos Santos, and Isabel Rivera and husband Herman all of San Angelo; nine grandchildren, Johnny Martinez, Jr., Erica Martinez and husband Sammy, Monica Soto and husband Gustavo, Rachel Barrientos, Joe Munoz, Jr. and wife Ashley, Ricky Martinez, Daniel Arroyo and wife Megan, Veronica Arroyo, and Jonathan Munoz; 27 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews. Gila was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Danny Hernandez; two sisters, Seferina Herrera, and Sofia Lavaris; a granddaughter, Chrishilda Gonzales; a son-in-law, Freddy Ibarra; and a daughter-in-law, Debra Gonzales.

The family would like to thank Dr. Franco Rodriguez, the hospice nurses,a nd her caregiver, Sarah Gamez for their loving care for Gila.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Martinez, Jr., Joe Munoz, Jr., Daniel Arroyo, Jonathan Munoz, Izayah Rodriguez, and Joe Edward Munoz.
