Novice Joe Moore Sr.

09/19/2023 - 09:08 , by TKing09

Novice Joe Moore, 75, passed away on 17 September 2023, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born in Dayton, Texas on March 27, 1948 to Wayne and Lois Moore. A cowboy at heart, he worked with his Uncle Blackie’s longhorns and in their rice fields. He drove across Houston at 14 working for a gas station and building hot rods. In his spare time, he attended high school. After graduation, he joined the Air Force, trained, and then traveled to Libya.

Returning from Libya, Joe was stationed at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida. There he met, Ginger Lee Rich, and married her on 14 June 1969 in the Tyndall AFB Chapel, surrounded by family. His first son, Novice Joe Moore Jr, was born in 1970 in Florida. Then he received orders to Wright Patterson, where his second son, Christopher Frederick was born. Carswell AFB in Ft Worth was his next assignment and where his third son, Russell Wayne was born, finally a Texan! Then on to Hellenikon AFB in Athens, Greece for 3 years, where we travelled, camped on the beach, and fished in the mountains. Returning to the US, Joe launched missiles, rode his beloved horses at the saddle club, and watched the boys play Little League at Vandenberg AFB, California. On September 1, 1986, Joe retired from the Air Force and moved to San Angelo, Texas.

Joe attended ASU and graduated on December 15, 1989 with a BS degree in Animal Science and Management. Although he raised sheep, Joe focused back on his electronics and worked for Western which was later BJ Services. Joe would return to California each May for 14 years to help with the Rancheros Vistadores. His greatest thrill was to meet some of his heroes there, especially Roy Rogers and James Gardner. Joe also was an observer for Bassmaster Tournaments, and met and rode with some of the great bass fisherman. He attended Red Stegall’s Cowboy Gatherings in Ft Worth, followed and collected Astros and Oilers items, was an Elmer Kenton fan with autographed books from the Cactus Book Shop, and collected old cars and tractors. A Kerrville Elk Lodge #2081 member, a continued ENF Donor, a NRA Golden Eagle, a Life Member of the North American Fishing Club and Texas State Rifle Association, and a Wounded Warriors monthly donor were just some of his causes.

Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ginger (Rich) Moore, of San Angelo, his sons, Novice Joe Moore Jr (Kristine) of Greenville, South Carolina, Lt Col Christopher Moore, Ret of Athens, Alabama, and Russell Wayne Moore (Brittany) of San Angelo. His granddaughters are Samantha (Brandon), Triniti, Maci (Garrett), McKenna (Andrew), Avery, Haven, and Taylor Rose. His grandsons are Mark, Cole, Gavin, Aidan, Asa, Maverick, and Jacob. Joe’s brothers are Michael Moore and wife Sandra of Houston, Tom Moore and wife Anne of Bellaire, Fred Moore of Dayton, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lois Moore of Dayton, Texas.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brayden Park and Solaris Hospice for the love and care that they lavished on Joe.

A visitation will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home. There will be a family reunion and graveside service at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM.

There will be 2 more Moore babies by that time!

Willie Nelson said it best, “His heroes have always been cowboys, always alone, and don’t understand him; he’ll probably just ride away.”

Family and friends may share online condolences at www.harper-funeralhome.com.

Juan Gabriel Espinosa

09/18/2023 - 13:01 , by TKing09

Juan "Gabriel" Espinosa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and hardworking member of the community, passed away on September 14, 2023, in his hometown of Sonora, Texas. Born on September 29, 1955, in Sonora, Gabriel was the son of Juanita Shurley and the late Guadalupe Espinosa.

In his early years, Gabriel worked as a foreman in the oil industry and also pursued a career as a rancher. His love for the land led him to establish his own tree and landscaping business. For the last 31 years of his life, he dedicated himself as a multi-skilled maintenance and repair worker for Sonora Bank.

Gabriel will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family. He placed them at the forefront of everything he did and cherished his beloved wife of 50 years, Sandi Espinosa dearly. Their bond was unbreakable, and he consistently supported her with household chores and always made sure to lend a hand with preparing meals and keeping their home tidy.

One of Gabriel's endearing traits was his contagious, wheezing-type laugh that never failed to bring joy to those around him. He had an extraordinary talent for making the best eggs for his grandchildren and would often create smiley faces on them using ketchup. His love extended beyond the kitchen as he traveled all the way to Arizona to watch his grandson play baseball. Trips to Dairy Queen were also cherished moments shared with loved ones.

Conversations with Gabe were always filled with wisdom and insight. His ability to connect with people knew no bounds as he effortlessly made friends wherever he went. In his lawn business, he demonstrated remarkable responsibility and structure while providing meticulous service to his clients. The invaluable life lessons he imparted will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though Gabriel lived a full life dedicated to work and family, he found time to indulge in his interests and hobbies. He relished in the simple pleasures of sipping beer on his back porch or under the shade of his cherished trees, often accompanied by a cigar. Cookouts and family gatherings at his mother's home brought him immense happiness. Gabriel was an avid fan of the 49ers football team and enjoyed watching Tiger Woods excel on the golf course. Taking care of his lawn was more than just a job—it was a passion. Weekend trips to Fredericksburg and playing games with his grandchildren provided him with precious moments of joy.

Gabriel took great pride in his accomplishments, most notably the love and success of his children and grandchildren. He marveled at the beauty of his wife, Sandi, whom he adored throughout their life together. He built a home where cherished memories were made, surrounded by a meticulously maintained yard that reflected his dedication and hard work.

He is survived by his loving wife Irasema "Sandi" Espinosa; son, Eric Espinosa (Tamye); daughter, Stacy Martinez (John); grandchildren, Sydne Robles, Sabian Robles, Gianni Kash Espinosa, Steven Robles, Sylas Robles, and Nicholas Ramos.; mother, Juanita Shurley; brother, Lupe Espinosa; sisters, Betty Lopez and Vivian Rodriguez, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Services to commemorate Gabe's life will be held at Love Funeral Home, located at 409 SE 2nd St. in Sonora, Texas. Visitation will take place on September 16th from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on September 17th from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM. A Mass will be held at St Ann Catholic Church, located at 311 W Plum St in Sonora on September 18th at 10:00 AM. Following the Mass, a graveside service will be conducted at Sonora Cemetery located at 516 N Service Rd in Sonora at 11:30 AM.

Juan "Gabriel" Espinosa brightened the lives of all who knew him. His joyful disposition, enlightening conversations, fantastic sense of humor, and easygoing nature endeared him to everyone he encountered. He will forever be remembered as a great listener and a source of inspiration for those around him. As we celebrate Gabe's life, let us remember the invaluable lessons he taught us and carry his spirit of love, dedication, and wisdom in our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
