Donald Henry Niemann, age 93, passed away peacefully at home in San Angelo, Texas on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 after a long battle against prostate cancer.
Graveside services will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered by Joint Base San Antonio Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Donald was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Henry Jacob Niemann and Margaret Loreen Niemann. Donald was married twice during his lifetime, first to Virginia Rosemarin Niemann and later to Julianna (Judy) Margaret Niemann, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his only son, Edward Henry Niemann. Donald is survived by his grandchildren, Audrey Deanne Niemann (and her daughter Mallorie) and Benjamin Graeme Niemann (his wife Sarah, and children Rhys and Sophia).
Donald served honorably in the United States Air Force for 30 years, with assignments that took him across the globe. A man of great talent, Donald was a brilliant artist who also deeply appreciated the creations of others. He also had a love for photography, traveling, world history, philosophy, and technology.
Donald was a man of few words but had a firm character. He was humble, disciplined, cultured, and deeply devoted to his family. This love for his family and his generous spirit toward those he cared about were defining aspects of his life.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
