Willie Gonzales, 78, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mereta with Father Joe Choutapalli, officiating. Burial will follow at Mereta-Eola Catholic Church under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home

Mr. Gonzales was born February 11, 1945 in Eden to Theodore and Lupe Gonzales. Willie was baptized as a Catholic. Willie had been a resident of Denver City for 36 years and after retirement he lived in the Paint Rock and Mereta area. Willie worked as a laborer in the oil and gas industry in Denver City. Willie liked working in the yard, eating home-cooked meals, and watching westerns.

Survivors include five brothers, Carlos Gonzales and wife Amelia, Peter Gonzales and wife Soila, Joe Gonzales and wife Dee, Henry Gonzales and wife Inez, and Edward Gonzales and wife Linda all of San Angelo; three sisters, Yolanda Gonzales of Austin, Sylvia Moreno, and Alicia Gonzales both of Mereta. Willie was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Theodore Gonzales, Jr., Robert Gonzales, Arturo Gonzales, and Roy Gonzales; and a sister, Olivia Gonzales.

Joan Kay Ivy, age 76, passed away at her home in San Angelo, TX on September 21, 2023 with her husband Louis by her side. She was a beautiful wife, a wonderful mother, a spoiling grandmother, a caring aunt, a great friend, and a loving sister who left this earth before anyone was ready to say goodbye.

Born with an identical sister, Joan came into this world on December 29, 1946 in Del Rio, TX. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1965. On March 10, 1984 Joan married Louis Ivy and had a child, Jennifer. Joan brought a smile to many peoples faces. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cruising and traveling, painting, artwork, putting puzzles together, going to the picture show, and spending time with her twin sister.

Joan worked at a credit union for 30 plus years before she retired. She was a very loving and caring lady. Joan moved her family into her mother’s home to take care of her mom until her mother passed. When the dementia began to take effect on her twin sister Judy, Joan helped take care of her as well. They had a special bond that cannot be explained nor broken. Joan loved her grandkids and had just welcomed the third grandchild a week prior to her passing.

Joan's memory will live on through her family and friends who recall her as a kind, selfless, and loving person. She is survived by her husband Louis Ivy, and her daughter, Jennifer Page (James) of Katy, TX as well as her grandchildren James, Joan, and Jett Page. She also leaves behind her brother Scott Briggs (Sue) of Lawton, OK. She is also survived by many other family members: Mickey Phillips, Mark and Michelle Phillips, D’Anna, Kaylee and Carter Clayton, Jimmy and Claudia Allen; Shane Briggs; Adrienne Briggs, Padraig and Osheen Tobin; Dusty Briggs and Mackenzie Briggs. She is preceded in death by her parents Johnnie Jackson and Glyn Briggs, her brother Ronnie Briggs and her twin sister Judy Phillips.

A memorial service will be held on September 29, 2023 at 2:00pm, at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX.

Deborah Jean Luna, 57, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 20 2023, in San Angelo surrounded by her loving family. Deborah was born November 29, 1965, in San Angelo Texas to Catarino Luna, Jr. and Janelle Guzman Luna. She grew up in San Angelo and attended Lakeview High School. Deborah started working at an early age at the San Angelo State Supported Living Center as a direct support provider where she worked over 20 years retiring in 2011. She then went into home health care and worked as a caregiver for many years. Deborah married Frederick Leon Allen Slaughter in San Angelo, Texas and they shared many beautiful years together. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.

Debbie was a vibrant and lively individual who loved driving around, blasting her music with Molly on her shoulder. She could have everyone laughing in minutes with her contagious laugh and her funny jokes. She loved spending her free time at the game rooms gambling with her friends enjoying life.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frederick. She is survived by her daughter Audry Govea and her husband Gerardo, and her son, Anthony Allen; 6 grandchildren Maya, Cat, Mica, Gabriel Jr, Josiah Allen and Mateo Allen; One sister, Diane Blanchard and her husband Jerry, all of San Angelo. Debbie leaves numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and her special fur baby Molly to mourn her passing. The family will receive friends for visitation at 5:00 P.M., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service starting at 6:00 P.M.

Janie Guerra Ramirez, age 82, from San Angelo passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Janie was born in Harris County, Texas on April 22, 1941, to Antonio Guerra and Anita Esparza.

Janie was a very loving, compassionate mother and dear friend to those who knew her. She was very outspoken but yes, kindhearted.

Janie worked for Levi Strauss for many years until she retired. She was a very talented seamstress and sewed as a hobby as well. She loved listening to her music and loved dancing. She loved to reminisce and tell her childhood stories to anyone who would listen. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, David Davila, daughter, Mary Gonzales, her great grandson who was her special angel, Jeremiah Ramirez, one stepson, Larry Davila, six brothers and two sisters.

Janie is survived by her daughters; Diana DeLuna (Tony), Juanita Torres (David), and Debbie Davila (Stephen); one stepdaughter Matilda Talton; her significant other Edward Martinez; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Harper Funeral Home. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home Chapel.

Charlie Hinojos, 86, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on September 19, 2023. Charlie was born on September 26, 1936, in San Angelo, TX. He was the 6th of 9 children born to Francisco and Jesusita Hinojos. On April 30,1960 Charlie married Elia Cervantes in Olfen, Texas, and together they raised 3 daughters. Charlie started working at various jobs at the age of 14. In 1972 he started and managed his own business AAA Sheet Metal Heating & Air Conditioning until his retirement in 2013.

Charlie was a devout Catholic with a very strong faith, who enjoyed serving the church in various ways. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, especially while his daughters attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. For over 20 years, he enjoyed participating at the Sacred Heart Fall festival with the kitchen crew carving turkeys. Later in life, he became a member of St. Margaret’s church, where he was active in various activities.

Charlie is survived by his three daughters: Rosemary Hinojos (Steve Briley), Magda Ramirez (Joe) from Austin and Yolanda Franco of San Angelo, 4 grandchildren Gabriela Ramirez of Austin, Matthew Franco, Annamarie Franco, and Michael Franco of San Angelo, brother Pete Hinojos of San Angelo, sister Emma Hernandez of Lubbock, Sister-in-law Rose Flores of Fort Worth, Brother-in-law Cayetano Tarin of San Angelo, and many nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be 6:00 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church with Father Josh Gray as celebrant. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Sylvia M. Grimaldo, 82, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM, on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grimaldo was born June 8, 1941 in San Angelo to Melquiades, Sr. and Rumalda Minjarez, where she was a lifelong resident. Sylvia married Jesse Grimaldo in April of 1980. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2016. She was a caregiver for many years, working at various places here in San Angelo. She enjoyed walking, the outdoors, and she was a very sociable person. Sylvia loved listening to music and cooking, she always had coffee and cookies available in her home. She was a loving mother and was loved by many.

Survivors include her two daughters, Debra Rodriguez and Sandra Gonzales both of San Angelo; three sons, Richard Galindo, Tito Galindo, Jr., and Anthony Galindo all of San Angelo; a special grandson that she considered her own, Jason Galindo of San Angelo; five sisters, Albessa Minjarez, Alicia Bastardo and husband Armando, Tomesa Regino and husband Alberto, Anna Hernandez, and Terrie Lynn Minarez-Narducci all of San Angelo; a brother, Melquiades Joe Minjarez, Jr. and wife Yolanda of San Anglo; a brother-in-law, Raymond Torres, Sr. of San Angelo; 14 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Torres; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Adela Trevino.

The family would like to say thank you to Hospice of San Angelo, her nurses; Laura and Debbie, her caseworker, Alicia, and a very special thank you to Joe and Yolanda Minjarez, all 5 sisters and all the nieces for their loving care for Sylvia.

Lilia Margarita Carrillo, 51, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 21, 2023 at her beloved church, Kingdom Church, 3723 Bowie St, San Angelo, TX.

She was born on January 15, 1972, in Acuna Coahuila Mexico to Homero and Juana Arredondo. Margarita attended 5 De Mayo Primary School, Lazaro Cardenas Secondary School, and Colegio America. She married Alvaro Carrillo May 12, 2002 in San Angelo, Texas. She worked for Elta Joyce McAfee for 23 years, building a lifelong friendship and bond.

Margarita truly lived life to the fullest and spread joy to everyone she met. She loved being a mother and often said her children were her whole world. Margarita's faith was very important to her along with her church family. She had an uncanny ability to connect with people in a deep and positive way. Margarita enjoyed the smaller things in life; like spending time with loved ones, shopping, decorating, and just sharing a laugh. But Margarita was also an adventure seeker who sky dived, zip lined the Rocky Mountains, and went snorkeling in the Caribbean waters.

Margarita is survived by her husband, Alvaro Carrillo; daughter, Yadira Margarita Morales; son, Jake Carrillo; two brothers, Jose Luis Arredondo; 6 sisters, Maria Hernandez and husband Sergio Espinosa, Noraelia Fernandez and husband Miguel, Monica Moreno and husband Javier, Paula Arredondo and husband Luis Garcia, and Mayra Weaver and husband Jason; many half brothers and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews including a very special niece to her, Laura Rodriguez; numerous great nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy; and a very special friend, Dulce Rocha.

John “Sonny” McInturff, Jr. passed away on September 17, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on June 2, 1938 in Big Spring, Texas to John Hugh McInturff, Sr. and Alice Rice. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bobbie Jean, brothers Wayne and George Butts and sisters Billie Noack and Jo Alice Victory.

John was a retired engineer with Texas Utilities in Monahans, Texas. He worked there for 25 years. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies in Tow, Texas and fishing on Lake Buchanan.

He is survived by sons T. Dean McInturff (Lisa) and Darren McInturff (Sheri). Grandchildren Amy Basham (Roy), Lauren Scullawl (Shane), Adam McInturff (Megan), and Katelyn Wright (Zac). Great Grandfather to Lexy Render, Kennedy Basham, Roman Render, Darby Basham, London Render, Adeline Wright, Everett McInturff, Griffin McInturff, Crawford McInturff, Theo McInturff and Clint Scullawl.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 30, 2023, 1:00 PM at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM Highway 1223, San Angelo, Texas. This will be a closed casket and he will lay in state at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. Honorary pallbearers are Adam McInturff, Roy Basham, Shane Scullawl, and Zac Wright.

We want to thank the staff at Lyndale Senior Living, Stephanie Melendez, Concho Valley Home Health, Jerrie Smithwick and Gentiva Hospice for all the compassion that they showed through this difficult time.

Amantha Gayle Pape Wright, 49, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Duplin County, North Carolina. She was born on April 13, 1974, in San Angelo, Texas, to Raymond and Sandra Pape, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1992. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Angelo State University in 1995. During her nursing career, Amantha worked at the Schleicher County Medical Center, Med-Way Home Health, and for the last five years in the Oncology Department at Shannon Medical Center where she was much-loved by patients and co-workers alike.

Her co-workers could probably spend hours telling of the fun times they enjoyed with Amantha while laughing and playing jokes on each other. However, when it came time to tend to patients, Amantha was efficient, encouraging and compassionate. She was nominated for the Shannon Hospital Daisy Award several times due to her extraordinary kindness and excellent care of patients.

At the time of her death, Amantha was just embarking upon a new adventure as a traveling/visiting nurse and was due to start her assignment in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on August 28, 2023. She was looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying new scenery and places to visit. In fact, on the day of her death she and husband, Mark, had been to the beach, and her texts to family that day included pictures of the ocean waves and stated that she was sitting on the beach enjoying God’s beautiful creations. She loved her Lord Jesus, and is now safely and happily in His loving presence and seeing Him face to face. She was a member of Paul Ann Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas.

Amantha will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, her love for others, her creativity and for her love of stray animals who somehow always managed to find their way to her. As important as her career was to her, nothing was more important than her family. She loved being a mom and grandmother (aka Bebe). Amantha was the one to initiate family gatherings for special occasions, holidays, and vacations. She also loved craft projects and decorating. Pinterist will not be the same without her. As her daughter, Alexys, said, she is probably in the process of redecorating Heaven right now.

Amantha’s dad had the privilege of officiating at her marriage to Mark Wright on June 19, 2021. They died together in a tragic accident on August 26, 2023, near Kenansville, North Carolina. Amantha is survived by her children Alexys, Ashlyn, and Cutter Kane, as well as the loves of her life, her grandsons, Jaxon Cabrera and Antheny Kane. Her third grandson, Carwyn Reed Kane, whom she did not get to see, was born on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Also surviving her are her brother and his wife, Antheny and Michelle Pape, niece Sterling Pape Fielder and husband, Cody, as well as parents, Raymond and Sandra Pape, all of San Angelo. There are several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who remain to cherish her memory. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Ann and Guy Atkins, and Rev. Raymond and Verba Pape.

A celebration of Amantha’s life will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Southland Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas, with Dr. Chris Curran officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, flowers, food, hugs, texts, and e-mails. Until we see each other again in Heaven, Amantha we love you and will miss you so very much. You were the Sunshine in our lives, and you will never be forgotten. Your laugh, your smile, and your beautiful face are etched in our memories forever. See you soon, sweetheart!
