The National Weather Service forecasts wintry mix—primarily freezing rain—until Thursday in West, Central, and North Texas, with sub-freezing temperatures expected throughout the week.
This will be a prolonged freezing event with temperatures staying well below freezing while the sleet and snow blanket the area building up ice on area roadways.
Weather Experts at the National Weather Service at Mathis Field in San Angelo have issued a three-day Winter Storm Warning in effect from Monday through Wednesday as a major winter storm approaches the area.
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning driving conditions will become worse. Temperatures will remain well below freezing with a 90% chance of freezing rain and sleet region wide.
Heavy rainfall Tuesday morning caused slick roadways and minor flooding across the Concho Valley including the City of San Angelo where several crashes slowed traffic during the morning commute.
Winter weather is headed to the Concho Valley in the form of high, gusty winds and significant rain Monday and then freezing temperatures by Tuesday night.
