Cold Front Could Bring Heavy Rain Early Monday

SAN ANGELO – A cold front will move through the Concho Valley Sunday evening bringing a good chance for heavy rain after midnight and cooling off temperatures after a triple digit afternoon Sunday.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo expect the cold front to combine with ample moisture and some instability to kick off a line of thunderstorms late Sunday or early Monday.  Storms should develop along and south of the cold front tonight over the Concho Valley.  The main threat will be large hail and damaging winds, but with the ample moisture in place, the storm system could become a heavy rain event causing flash flooding between midnight Sunday and sunrise Monday.

Once the storm system passes the rain chances will rapidly diminish Monday before noon.

The forecast calls for a 30% chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon after 4 p.m. then a 40% chance Sunday night and Monday morning.

After a high Sunday afternoon of 101, Monday's high will only reach the upper 80s. Temperatures will remain more seasonal for the rest of the week with highs in the 90s and lows overnight in the mid 60s.

The rains chances end this week Tuesday.

Conditions with this cold front and storm could change rapidly so this information will be updated as weather conditions require.
