Deere Linda-Carole

03/27/2014 - 13:58 , by johnb

Mom was born Linda-Carole Clark July 21, 1942 in Mercury Texas, to Evelyn Cawyer Clark and Thurman Clark. At an early age her father's job took them to Fort Worth, where mom was raised and graduated from Poly Tech High School in December of 1959. In February of 1960 she married Private Bruce F. Deere of the United States Air Force. They spent 54 years, 1 month and 18 days together. They lived in San Antonio, Texas; Biloxi, Mississippi; Hoff, Germany; Misawa, Japan; and finally making it back home to West Texas living in San Angelo, Eldorado, and Robert Lee. Mom worshiped God all over the world and called Southgate Church of Christ, San Angelo, Texas home. She raised three children and was eventually blessed with eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. We said good bye to Mom in the Robert Lee Care Center on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 2:45 in the afternoon. Mom was 71 years, seven months and 24 days old. Mom loved her husband and her family above all else. She was Mama Deere to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many other folks that she won over with her sweet and tender nature. Everyone that met mom fell in love with her. Mom's skills in office management and customer service were well appreciated over the years at Jim Bass Ford, Russell McDonald Insurance Company, Commercial Credit Union, San Angelo ISD, Angelo State University English Department and banks in Eldorado and Robert Lee.
Family members that will greatly miss mom are her husband Bruce Deere, of Robert Lee, Texas, their son Ben Deere and wife Kenda of Kuna, Idaho and their five children (Forest Deere, Hunter Deere, Chase Harris, Leslie Harris, and Jaime Weisweaver and husband Chuck) of Kuna Idaho and Seattle Washington. A daughter, Dana Cauley and husband Lynn of Bronte, Texas and their three children (Amy Holifield and husband Cameron, Lucas Cauley, and Cadye McKinnon and husband Quaid) of San Angelo, Texas and their son Todd Deere of San Angelo, Texas and his three children (Nicole Deere, Brooke Deere and, Trevor Deere) of Arizona, San Angelo, Texas, and California. Also sharing our grief are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Doug and Ora Mae Deere of Bedford, Texas as well as Becky and Mike Hayes of Brownwood, Texas, along with all of their sweet girls who knew mom as Aunt Linda-Carole.
Our family would like to express our eternal gratitude to Dr. Stanley and the staff of Odyssey Hospice for caring for mom for the last 15 months of her life. There truly are angels among us and they work for hospice organizations everywhere. Megan and Lillia, you were Mom's special angels and we love you. Our gratitude as well goes to the Robert Lee Care Center.
She is singing with the angels, with perfect pitch, and has the prettiest hat you ever saw.
Funeral arrangements are through Johnson's Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, March 28th, at Southgate Church of Christ at 10am. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday, March 27th, from 6-8pm, at Johnson's Funeral Home.

McGehee Gary

03/27/2014 - 13:56 , by johnb

Gary Lee McGehee heard his Master's call on March 25th, 2014 after a long illness. The family would like to thank everyone for their constant support and prayers. Special thanks go to the Mertzon Methodist Church and Park Plaza Nursing Home Family Council. The family requests that memorials be sent to these organizations in lieu of flowers. The Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Mertzon with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. The burial will follow in Mertzon Cemetery.
Gary was born in Clifton, Texas, on January 6, 1948. He was raised by his parents, grandparents, and a host of friends in Morgan, Texas. Upon his graduation from Morgan High School in 1965, he came to visit his father in Mertzon where he was reintroduced to the love of his life, Carolyn Tullos. He and Carolyn were married August 23, 1969. After graduation from Angelo State University, they moved to Pottsville, Texas, then Wink, Texas, to teach and coach. They returned to Irion County in 1976 to begin a career in agriculture.
He was the proud father of Dr. Michael Lee McGehee of Houston, Maggie Lynn McGehee Byrd of Muleshoe, and Miles Lane McGehee of Halifax, Novia Scotia. He delighted in his children and was a dedicated supporter of them from athletics to band and a constant source of knowledge that will guide them through their lives. He admired and respected his son-in-law, Kirk Byrd, and admitted he was almost good enough for his daughter. He was Pawpaw to Garrett Lee, Wylie Lane, and Olivia Monroe Byrd of Muleshoe, Texas. Nothing made him happier than to brag about his children or to pass around pictures of his grandchildren.
Gary was an avid rancher and always said his job was to raise natural grasses with improved conservation practices and to use livestock for the harvest. He enjoyed ranching and loved raising his family on the ranch. He served his love for agriculture as State Director of the Texas Farm Bureau and as a member of the Executive Board of The American Sheep Industry.
He served on the Irion County School Board, the local Farm Bureau board and was a member of the Mertzon Methodist Church and Mertzon Lions Club.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harold McGehee, his step mother, Martha McGehee, and his step father, Larry Strickland. He is survived by his mother, Betty Strickland of Arden, Texas, his parents-in-law, Bill and Margie Tullos of San Angelo, his wife, three children, three grandchildren, and his three brothers, Dicky, Ricky, and Max McGehee.
Pall bearers will be Cecil Bannister, Alvie Carrell, Pete Case, Benny Cox, Randy Gully, Paul Lawdermilk, Sutton Page and Dave Stinnett. Honorary pall bearers will be Bill Arms and Bub Bailey.
What more can one say about a man than that he is loved and respected by all.
