Pilar Margie Ortega Casarez

Pilar Ortega Casarez, 66, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in San Angelo, Texas. Pilar was born August 15, 1948, in Sterling City, Texas, to Urbano Medrano Ortega and Elizabeth Longoria Ortega.
She married Alfredo Casarez, Sr. on February 25, 2001. Pilar was a long time resident of Lubbock, TX, Robert Lee, TX, and most recently San Angelo, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Urbano and Elizabeth Ortega; two brothers, Margarito L. Ortega and Juan Urbano Ortega; one daughter, Rebecca Paxtor; on son, Joe Anthony Ibarra; and by one grandson, Andy Ortega Trejo.

Survivors include two brothers, Pablo Ortega and family of Walters, Oklahoma, and Ricardo L. Ortega and family of Lubbock, Texas; two sons, Paul Ortega of San Angelo, and Jeremy Ortega of San Angelo; four daughters, Yvonne Aguirre of San Angelo, Angela Proctor of Arlington, TX, Cecilia D. Lopez of Arlington, TX, and Jennifer Rene Juarez of San Angelo, TX; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015, at La Hermosa Baptist Church in Sterling City, TX, from 3:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Prayer Service will take place at 7:00 at evening at the church. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, June 12, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at the Sterling City Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Eddie Proctor, Phelix Trejo, Joe Anthony Tellez, Daniel Cooksey, Josh Juarez, and Devin Cooksey.

Ruebell Malloy

Ruebell Malloy, 100, of San Angelo passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at a local nursing home.
Family visitation will be held from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Following the graveside service there will be a Memorial service at 11am on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Salvation Army Church with Maj. Tim Grider officiating under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Ruebell was born on May 8, 1915, in a covered wagon near San Marcos, TX to Clarence and Annie Mae Owen. She would often recall as a little girl when she rode in her first car, it was the Postman’s vehicle. Ruebell was very proud of her Comanche heritage. As a little girl she enjoyed gathering medicinal plants with her father, this was something that would stay with her the rest of her life. She was an outstanding cook never having to go by recipes. Some of her hobbies were working crossword puzzles, embroidery, reading, gardening, fishing and always took care of those closest to her. Ruebell married William Edgar “Bill” Malloy in December of 1932 in San Angelo. Bill passed away on August 11, 1964. Ruebell and Bill had five children of their own but she wasn’t finished there. She later took in some of her grandchildren and raised them as her own. Ruebell was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be missed deeply by all those who knew her.

Ruebell was very active with the Salvation Army, where she started out with a War Cry route which led to her spending over 50 years serving in different capacities, but mainly cooked in the Red Shield Lodge before retiring at the age of 74. She was very active in the Salvation Army Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Home League Treasury and Youth Leader.

After retiring she liked traveling with her daughter, Jerrie. Some of the places she visited were Idaho, California and Alaska. Alaska was one of her favorite places to visit, where she enjoyed seeing the countryside while riding on the Alaskan Railroad.
Most recently Ruebell lived in Christian Village for the past 10yrs before moving into a care facility in 2013.

Ruebell was preceded in death by sons Billy and Clarence Malloy; granddaughters Susan Caveness; great-grandson Zach Malloy and great-granddaughter Catilyn Boyle Barksdale.

She is survived by her son Andy Malloy and wife, Janie; son Richard Malloy both of San Angelo; daughter Geraldean “Jerrie” Boyle of Katy, TX; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-great-grandchildren.

David Calk Jr.

David H. Calk, 74, passed away Sunday June 7, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Belvedere Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
David was born on January 16, 1941 in Houston, Texas to David Henry Calk and Marie (Leediker) Calk.
He grew up in Houston, Texas where he graduated from Milby High School. He attended college at Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas.
David’s work history included working as a CPA in Kerrville and San Angelo. He also worked at Hill Country Savings and Loan in Kerrville. David proudly served on the Kerrville City Council and was Mayor of Kerrville during the early eighties. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
David loved genealogy and worked for over fifty years compiling extensive family information dating back to the 1600’s.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Dendle Calk of San Angelo; son, Terry Calk of Houston; daughters, Paula Ray and Lynsy Inman both of Austin; granddaughters, Erin Ray of Dallas, Meagan Ray and Kristin Ray both of Lubbock.
In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Meals for the Elderly.

Sadie Gafford

Sadie Louise Gafford went home to be with Jesus Saturday, June 6, 2015.
Sadie was born in San Angelo, TX September 1, 1930 to Buck and Nona Spurger. She was the fifth of eight children.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Gafford Parsons and her son-in-law by marriage, son by heart Michael Steven Parsons.
Three grandchildren, Michael Wayne Parsons, Stephanie Michelle Parsons and Marilyn Kathleen Parsons; three great grandsons, Nethanel Minnix, Joshua and James Parsons; four siblings, Helen Williams, Pat Hoelscher, Tom Spurger and Dick Spurger; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Lulia Ruffel, Marion Chapman and John Luther Spurger.
Sadie loved her Lord and Savior and enjoyed working the bus ministry, singing in the choir and creating alter arrangements. She also worked in the nursery and loved rocking the babies.
Her enjoyment in life was being with her family, people she loved and talking to the Lord. Now she is rejoicing being with her Lord.
