Crawford Betty Lou

08/29/2017 - 15:29 , by Reagan Hyde

Betty Lou (Ward) Crawford went to be with her Lord on August 21, 2017, at the age of 87, in Eastland, Texas, after a long, hard battle with Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born on August 30, 1929, the first of nine children born to Idella (Willey) and Richard Benton Ward. A memorial service will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. in Marion Cemetery in Fife, Texas. Betty lived several places while her husband was in the military and always loved and remembered the time spent in England. After the military, she lived most of her adult life in San Angelo, Texas. She worked in the insurance industry and the trust department of a bank before finding the job she so loved in the financial aid office for Angelo State University. She loved working with the young people and still corresponds with several that attended school there. Betty loved the Lord, her family, her church, children of any age, and serving others. She served as church treasurer at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in San Angelo for over 30 years. She was awarded a rare and coveted Service Award from the National Nazarene Church in 1991 for her many years as church treasurer, and her willingness to serve. After the church was closed, she found a loving church to attend at Northside Church of Christ. Betty was an avid letter writer to family and friends, and had pen pals from Scotland, England and around the United States. Betty's home was open to everyone and was a safe haven for several during hard times. She was an amazing prayer warrior, grandmother and neighbor, and will be missed. Betty is survived by two sons, Ronnie D. Crawford and wife Teresa of Eastland, Texas and Michael L. Crawford and wife Debra of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, Chris Crawford, Clint Crawford, Shane Crawford, David Crawford and Dawn Crawford; six great grandchildren, Jordan Crawford, Kash Crawford, Kylee Crawford, Kelsey Crawford, Brice Crawford and Raven Crawford. She is also survived by sisters, JoNell (Ray) Shank of Globe, Arizona, Kitty (Bob) Baucom of San Angelo, Texas, Bernay (Dean) Lankford of Richmond, Texas; two brothers, Edwin (Marthelle) Ward of Lovington, New Mexico and Eldon Ward of Brady, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Sharon Ward and Kathryn Ward, and many nieces and nephews. One sister, Jane Huff and two brothers, Geary Ward and Dee Ward, predeceased her. A special thanks to the staff of The Woodlands Living Center in Eastland, Texas, for the love, hugs, care and respect they showed Betty. You are special people who are loved and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association -North Central Texas Chapter, 2630 West Freeway, Ste 100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 or charity of your choice.

Gerald Wayne Coleman

08/22/2017 - 21:48 , by johnb

On August 20, 2017, the Lord called Gerald Wayne Coleman home. This beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and friend will be missed by countless family and friends, but we rejoice in his healing and his place in the Lord’s presence.

Born in San Angelo, Texas on April 3, 1952. Gerald’s parents, Larry and Joyce Barnes loved him and guided him through life. He would eventually graduate from Central High School in San Angelo in 1970, the same year he married fellow San Angelo native Paulette Box. They would have two children, Shane and Todd.

Gerald spent his life working with computers, the last 15 years being employed by the Information Services Department of Abilene Christian University. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed repairing and putting cars together, fishing, camping and playing the guitar. All this was put on the backburner when grandkids started arriving. They quickly stole his heart and became the love of his life. Any event they were involved in demanded Poppy’s full attention and attendance.
Gerald had surrendered to Christ early in life but only later did the relationship grow and blossom. He and Paulette had been a member of First Baptist Church of Buffalo Gap for some time when he began to grow dramatically in his spiritual life.

When Rev. Chuck Gilliland was called to be the pastor of the church and he and Gerald developed a strong relationship, eventually going on a mission trip to Zambia together. The trip affected Gerald greatly, to the point that he would become a deacon at the church and member of the Praise Team. He developed a deep passion for people to know Jesus Christ in a personal and passionate relationship.

Awaiting him in heaven is his son Shane, grandparents Robert and Teeny Morrison and grandparents Lawrence and Florence Barnes, brother David Barens and in-laws Frank and Nina Box and RJ Coleman.

Gerald’s Legacy and memory are carried on by his wife Paulette Coleman of San Angelo, his son Todd and wife Trixy Coleman of San Angelo; grandkids Ashtyn Gillie of Austin, Justin Coleman of Abilene, Devon Franks of Denton, Drew Barber of Bakersfield, California, Devo Coleman of San Angelo and Arysta Coleman of San Angelo. His parents Larry and Joyce Barnes of San Angelo and brothers Gary Coleman and Steven Barnes, both of San Angelo carry on his legacy as well. A countless host of extended family and friends treasure their memories of Gerald.

There will be a visitation Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Harper’s Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Glenn Meadows Baptist Church, 6002 Knickerbocker, San Angelo, Texas. Rev. Chuck Gilliland will officiate and the Buffalo Gap Praise Team will sing.

The family request you to come casually dressed and in lieu of flowers the family request you to make a donation to either Alzheimer’s or Diabetes foundation or your favorite ministry.

Family and friends can offer condolences and sign the online register book for Gerald at www.harper-funeralhometx.com
