Clayton Alfred C. "Rusty"

A.C. “Rusty” Clayton passed June 12, 2018 at his home in Christoval, TX after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Clayton, a son, James Franklin Clayton; grandchildren, Makendree, Brydon, and Mason; great granddaughter, Aubree; brother, Roy Clayton; brother-in-law Pete Sandel and spouse Nicole James; niece, Julie Carruthers; grand-niece, Lily Walts and nephew, Peter Sandel and numerous others. He was preceded in death by daughter, Renee, his parents and 11 siblings.

Rusty was born March 20, 1943 to James William Clayton and Jessie Seely Clayton in Lovington, New Mexico and was the youngest of 13 children. Soon after, his family moved to Arkansas. 

His early life was spent working on his parents’ farm in Arkansas. In his teens, he started working in the oilfield, first as a floor hand, then as an operator of a pulling unit. From there, he went moved up to a Field Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Ultimately co-owner of Globe Well Service, an oil and gas servicing company and Strippers Ltd. In Big Lake, TX

During his 45 plus years in the West Texas Oilfields, he became known as the “Consummate Professional” in all phases of oil and gas well servicing operations. He was widely respected for his knowledge, skill and common-sense approach to solving the myriad of problems associated with oil and gas well servicing operations. He was a friend first and boss second to the many employees he worked with over the years and was considered by all of them as a person who would teach and show them how to do the job required and do it with respect by all those who knew him. He was known for compassion, calmness, and his loving spirit.

His wife, Judy, was the absolute love of his life, and his thoughts and efforts were to take care of her up until the day he passed. He loved his son Jamie and all his grandchildren with a passion and was blessed with his little great granddaughter as well. 

Rusty was a Master Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine. 

He will be missed and is in a better place now with no pain. Say not in grief; “He is no more” but live in thankfulness that he was. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a favorite charity or to the Children’s Hospital.

A visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Thursday June 14th from 2-4 p.m.. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday June 15th at Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake, TX.

Services are under the direction of Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo.

Zamarippa-Elkins Rachel

Rachel Zamarippa-Elkins, 74, of San Angelo, TX passed away after a prolonged illness on Sunday, June 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband and three boys. 

Rachel was born June 12, 1943 in San Angelo, TX to the late Ralph M. & Jessie Zamarippa. Rachel is remembered as a devout Christian woman who had a deep, heartfelt love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although she faced a long, courageous battle with cancer, she was steadfast in sharing her faith and love for God with all that crossed her path.

Rachel absolutely loved her Paul Ann church family and was always so eager to volunteer her time to educate the children of Paul Ann on God's teachings.

Rachel cherished her time with friends, family and husband Arthur R. Elkins. Rachel & Art spent the early part of their married lives together traveling the world as part of the Air Force family. They made many lifelong friends along the way and made memories that have lasted a lifetime. After Art retired from the Air Force in 1980, they planted the roots of their young family in Rachel's birth home, San Angelo.

Rachel was a career hairdresser who maintained her own beauty salon and retired in 2006. Once retired, her & Art traveled the U.S. visiting family, friends and continually building upon their memories along their travels.

Rachel leaves behind her husband, Arthur Elkins of San Angelo, sons Randy Elkins & wife Melinda of DFW, TX, Jody Elkins of Littleton, Colorado and Art Elkins Jr. & wife Gwen of San Angelo. Rachel, one of 8 siblings, leaving behind sister Rita & husband Willie Tambunga of DFW, TX, Roy Zamarippa & wife Jeanine of Loveland, Colorado, Ralph Zamarippa Jr. of San Angelo, Raymond Zamarippa & wife Gina of DFW, TX and Ronnie Zamarippa & wife Gilda of San Angelo.

Rachel was preceded in death by her sister Rosie Zamarippa and brother Rudy Zamarippa.

Rachel is a grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be sons Randy, Jody & Art Elkins, brother Raymond Zamarippa, grandson Jace Elkins and Billy Boland.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 14th from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral home, 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, TX 76903 (325) 655-3113.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on June 15th at Paul Ann Church at 2531 Smith Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76905.

A special thank you to Dr. Roberto Prieto of West Texas Medical Associates for his unending care, support and compassion and to Hospice of San Angelo for all the care & support.

Castro Joe Luis

Joe Luis Castro of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018. Born on August 25, 1946, the son of Martin Castro and Maria de la luz (Padron) Castro.

Joe was a musician, a self-taught guitarist as a young boy. He continued to develop and master the skills of his craft. In the 1960’s he was the lead singer and guitarist for the band The Sundells and numerous other latin tejano bands. He met many great musicians in Texas who became lifelong friends.

Once he dedicated his life to God, he began using his musical talent in his church music ministry. He taught and inspired countless musicians to perfect their musical talent. Joe believed if the music was to worship God - it should be excellent.

In 1982, as their unique style of music became known in spanish churches, they formed the music group Los Aleluyas. The music group traveled taking their music throughout Texas.

Joe also worked as an accomplished tile setter for over 40 years. In 1986, he began his own tile installation business known as Castro Ceramic Tile. He took great pride in his work and taught many individuals the tile setting profession. He worked as a tile setter until his illness no longer allowed him to continue. During the time of his illness he enjoyed listening to music and songs performed by his grandchildren at his bedside.

Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosa Castro. He is survived by his four children, daughter Linda Jo Samaniego, husband David Samaniego; son Johnny Joe Castro; daughter Sonia Cardenas, husband Henry Cardenas; daughter Doralicia Ruiz, husband Misael Ruiz, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 

Dad, Popo - We will always remember you for your kind heart, sense of humor and generosity. God has you in His keeping. We have you in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10 a.m. San Angelo First Assembly of God, 1442 Edmund Blvd, San Angelo, Texas 76901.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Austin or a church music ministry in honor of Joe L. Castro.

Lara Anita

Anita Lara, 43, of San Angelo passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 in San Angelo.

A time of visitation and a Rosary will be recited on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery.

Anita was born in Brady, Texas on January 14, 1975. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Lara on June 2, 2015.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Arispe of San Angelo; two sons, John David Escobedo of Austin and Christian Lara of San Angelo; 2 daughters, Natalie Escobedo of San Angelo and Andrea Escobedo; step daughter, Aaron Arispe; her mother, Sarah Lara of San Angelo; a brother, Daniel Ray Lara and a sister, Anna Scott, both of Dallas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers for the services are Anthony Baca, Fernando Fuentes, Sam Delafuente, Henry Hogeda, Jr., Raul Delarosa, and Johnny Perez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Zach Fernandez, Danny Munoz and Rey Hernandez.

The family wish to acknowledge with extreme gratitude for the care and concerns of Dr. Zarate, Dr. Perret and the ICU Unit nurses and staff of Shannon hospital.

A special thanks to Olivia Arispe, Angie and Raul Delarosa and Henry Hogeda, Jr. for all the love and care you have shown to Anita and our family during her illness. And also thank you to Sarah Lara for always being there to help Anita with her children. We will always love her and now we will miss her and never forget her.

Carpenter Joseph "Joe" "Frog" Layne

Joseph (Joe, Frog) Layne Carpenter, 61, of Eola, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in San Angelo.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 13th at the Eola Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Eola Cemetery.

Joe was born on July 30, 1956 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Billie Jean and Howard Wayne Carpenter. Joe moved to Texas after graduating high school in Gould, Oklahoma in 1976. He married Dreda Renee Jacoby of Eola in 1983 and had one child, Amanda.

After marriage, Joe lived in Grape Creek, then moved to Big Lake in 1989 and worked for the oil field for many years. They then moved to Eola for 16 years and worked for J & J Services before he retired in 2013 from the oil field after 40 years of services. He love to hunt, fish, weld, golf, even play Santa from time to time for different special events. Joe also did some farming in his younger years. A jack of all trades. He love spending time with his family, and friends.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Jonathan Wahmann, one grandchild, two brothers, Harvie Don Sutherland and Bud Sutherland, two sisters, Marzelle Mathews and Janet Traylor.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Renee Carpenter of Eola, a daughter, Amanda Carpenter Wahmann of Eola. A sister Sylvia Roberts & husband of Mangum, Ok, a sister in law, Dorothy Sutherland of Crane, and Doc Mathews of Mangum, Ok, two brothers, Dennis Lee Asper of Mustang Ok, and his twin Brother Wayne Carpenter and wife of Duke Ok, Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and kiddos he claimed as his.

The family would like to thank all the Shannon hospital and Shannon Dialysis for twelve long years of great services, Thanks to all the doctors and technicians.

Services have been entrusted to Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Hinojos Aurora Lopez

On June 8, 2018, our beloved mother, Aurora Lopez Hinojos went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Aurora was born on March 22, 1935 to Eliseo and Maria Lopez in Charlotte, TX. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Frank S. Hinojos, Jr. and their two sons Jessie and David.

Aurora is survived by her sisters, Lily Diaz of San Angelo, TX and Lola Valadez of Buena Park, CA and sister-in-laws Clara Lopez of Ft. Worth, TX and Emma Hernandez of Lubbock, TX; brother-in-laws,Charlie Hinojos and wife Elia, Pete Hinojos and Cayetano Tarin, all of San Angelo, TX; Sons Richard of Amarillo, TX, Vidal and girlfriend Teri of San Antonio, TX, Frank and wife Toni of San Angelo, TX, Ernest and wife Vicki of Carlsbad, TX, Paul and wife Roberta of San Angelo, TX; daughters Irene Torres and husband Mauro, Patsy Aleman and husband Mike of Austin, TX and Helen Soza and husband Robert of Midland, TX. Aurora was a blessed grandmother 16 times and had 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Aurora attended San Angelo Public Schools through the 10th grade, until she met the love of her life, Frank at a dance fundraiser. Aurora and Frank married on March 10, 1950 and lived their lives celebrating life with the family and friends at the ranch with an occasional trip to Las Vegas! Aurora loved to receive plants and flowers of every kind. Aurora never met a 4-legged creature she didn’t love, especially Nicholas.

She was a loving and caring mom who instilled Christian values in all her children and grandchildren and Aurora always opened her home to family and friends. Her warm smile and giving heart will be carried in our minds and hearts forever. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Service will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with interment following at Fairmount Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Vidal Hinojos, Frank Hinojos, Ernest Hinojos, Paul Hinojos, Robert Soza, Mauro Torres and Honorary pallbearer, Michael Aleman, Jr.

Special thanks go to Caprock Home Health Services. The family would also like to thank Kindred Hospice for the guidance offered during this most difficult time, especially for the pastoral sessions with our mom, Aurora.

Ecker Ruby Cecelia

Ruby C. Ecker, 100, went to her eternal home on June 7, 2018.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial is 2 p.m. Monday, June 11th at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Angelo. Interment will be at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rowena.

She was born to Andrew T. and Annie Straka Faltisek on May 28, 1918 in Rowena.

She married Johnny F. Ecker on Jan 16, 1939 in Rowena. Ruby was devoted to her family but also loved taking care of her flower garden, sewing, playing cards, 88 and polka dancing. She loved getting together with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son-in-law, Steve Therault.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Ardone Therault of San Angelo, Arveal (Gary) Wimbish of Ft. Worth; five grandchildren, Debbie Campanaro, Cindy Rodgers, Greg Wimbish, John Wimbish, Wendy Averitt; 11 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Special thanks go to the Hospice of San Angelo and Visiting Angels.

Memorials may be made to the children's program at Sacred Heart, Hospice of San Angelo or the charity of your choice.

Services entrusted to Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Francis, Sr Raymond L.

Raymond Larry Francis, Sr. 80, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in San Angelo surrounded by his loving family.

Raymond was born August 13, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio to Raymond P. and Mildred McKinney Francis. He grew up in Dayton Ohio and graduated from Chaminade High School. After high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Raymond served for 20 years achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant before his retirement in 1978.

Raymond went back to work for the United States Government for another 20 years before retiring in 1999. He volunteered for Shannon Hospital for numerous years before fully enjoying retirement.

Raymond married the love of his life, Sun Cha Yi on June 20, 1973 in Seoul, South Korea, sharing almost 45 beautiful years together. Raymond was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who devoted his life to his family and his faith. He was a man of great faith. He saw the Pope in Rome while stationed in Italy. He attended church at Sacred Heart and St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. His love for his family, our country, and his incredible strength will remain in our hearts forever. He will be dearly missed. 

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dolores M. English.

He is survived by his wife, Sun Cha Francis, of San Angelo; his son, Raymond L. Francis, Jr. and his wife Candace, his Grandchildren, Kian and Kailyn Francis, also of San Angelo; his dear friends, Leon and Jessie Samuel, of San Angelo; and Bill Hollis, Scott Bruton and Joel Anderson, all of whom he loved and cherished as if they were his own sons.

The Funeral Mass will be 10 A.M., Monday, June 11th at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church with Rev. Santiago Udayar as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

He donated to numerous charities and causes. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Rawlings Mary Alice

Mary Alice (Roach) Rawlings, 98, previously of San Angelo, TX, San Diego, CA, and Chicago, IL died in Bloomington, IN on June 7, 2018.

She was born in Toledo, OH and spent her life as a loving wife and caring mother. Mary worked as an office manager for two elevator companies in San Diego and executive secretary for the Human Resources Department at the County of San Diego. 

Mary was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband of 64 years Robert Raymond Rawlings, a son Robert Richard Rawlings in 1998, and a granddaughter Michele Marie (Miraflor) Reed in 1998.

Survivors include; daughters, Mary Pat DePrang of Keller, TX, Kathleen Stewart of Bloomington, IN., and Nancy Miraflor of The Woodlands, TX; son, James Rawlings of Atascadero, CA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Mass: 10:00 AM June 19, 2018, Holy Angels Catholic Church, 2315 A & M Ave., San Angelo, Texas.

Interment: After services, Calvary Cemetery, 1501 W. Avenue N., San Angelo, Texas.

Rodriguez Joe C.

Joe C. Rodriguez, age 60, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, June 5th, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

He was born February 15, 1958 in San Angelo, the son of Henry and Elva Cervantez Rodriguez. Following graduation from high school, he served in the U. S. Navy from 1976 until 1980 when he was Honorably discharged.

He later received his B. A. degree from Angelo State University. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral where he worked with the youth department, was actively involved with the prayer group, helped fix meals for the families after funerals, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth R. Stafford and husband Bob of Waxahachie, Deborah Rodriguez of San Angelo and Birdie Lopez and husband Jaime of San Angelo, several nieces and nephews including Jennifer Gibson, Joe Henry Rodriguez, Justin Gibson, Samantha Thompson, Donna Bailey, James Lopez, and Benjamin Stafford.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Sunday at Johnson's Funeral Chapel with rosary recited at 7 p.m.. Funeral mass will be officiated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral with burial following at Belvedere Cemetery.
