Dale Bates (85) passed away peacefully at his home on July 2nd. He started life in the latter part of the depression, in 1935, and was the son of Leonard Lee and Pearl France Bates. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1953 as president of his class and most popular boy, and was then drafted into the army in December of 1955 with only one year of college credit from San Angelo College, now ASU. Just as he was shipping off to Europe, his father suffered a massive heart attack, and he was granted a hardship discharge from the Army. He worked with his family to re-structure the family trucking business and pay off the family debts. With the family then financially secure, he returned to college and entered the Army Reserves. With no financial support from family, he worked his way through college and graduated from the University of Texas in 1960, achieving a degree in Money and Banking. Kay Wall and Dale Bates married in August of 1959. This started their amazing 60 years of marriage into which two children were born, Allyson and Devin. After graduation, Dale worked for The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as an assistant bank examiner for one and a half years. Dale then began working for the Central National Bank of San Angelo, but on his first day, he was recalled to active duty with the 49th Armored Division during one of the Berlin Wall/Germany crises. During this active duty time, he attended OCS at Ft. Sill and became an Army Officer. His division was released in ten months and he re-joined The Central National Bank of San Angelo, Texas, where he worked for more than fifteen years. Throughout his life, Dale was an avid WWII buff and loved reading, learning, and talking about the various battles, especially in the Pacific. Leaving the banking business, Dale started his career in farming, ranching and guided hunting, which lasted for more than thirty years. During this time, Dale learned to fly airplanes and spent many hours in the seat of a piper cub. Not only could he check the water on the ranch and some oil wells he had in Sterling County, but whenever the local and surrounding volunteer fire departments were called out, so was Dale and his airplane. They communicated by two-way radios, so Dale could tell the fire trucks where to go. Dale became active in local county government. In addition to serving on the Irion County school board, Dale and The Irion County Underground Water District built a weather modification program that, at one time, operated in one-third of the land area in Texas. Retiring in 2001, Dale was treated for two cancers that remained in remission until his death, but did cause him to sell the ranch and move to town to receive treatment. This tough rancher and oil man had a creative side as well. He was a very accomplished dry brush watercolorist during his time on the farm. In his "retirement," he authored three books, My Journey, God Drops, and God Drops In. Dale and Kay spent his remaining years enjoying their beautiful back yard. 

Dale is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughter, Allyson, and her husband, Rick Baumeister of Fort Worth; his son, Devin, and his wife Liz of San Angelo; Allyson's and Rick's children, Natalie Baumeister, Parker Turner and his wife, Angela, Bobby Baumeister, and Reed Turner; Devin's and Liz's children, Brandt Bates, and Madison Bates; several special nieces, nephews and cousins and their families. Dale was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo for over fifty years and served on the board of Deacons for many years. The family wishes to express our appreciation to Hospice of San Angelo and to TLC who took such good care of Dale.

Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home on Monday, July 6th from 5:00-7:00 pm. A celebration of Dale's life will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 4:00 pm at The First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo, 32 N. Irving St.

Robert A. Nickel was born October 5, 1932, in San Diego, California to Homer and Edith Nickel. He moved into Heaven on July 2, 2020 after a 24-year battle with Parkinsons. 
In the nineth grade he moved to the ranch at the Twin Mountains in San Angelo, TX. He played basketball for the Central Bobcats. When he was a senior the Cats played for the State Championship. 
He attended the University of Texas in Austin, but his education was interrupted by a stint in Korea with the US Army. He returned to Austin and completed his degree at UT. 
Robert married Joyce Murphey and they had 2 daughters, Jarrott Lynn and Elisa Michelle. After college he returned to San Angelo and joined his father in the ranch fence business, known at Nick’s Cedar Post Yard. After his father’s death, he expanded the business and changed the name to Twin Mountain Supply. 
He was instrumental in bringing the electric fence industry to the Concho Valley, and TMS sold fence in every state and many foreign countries. Robert worked tirelessly with the state of Texas and built 457 miles of interstate fencing from south of Junction to El Paso. He provided fence for Big Bend National Park. 
In 1983, Robert married Beverly Harper and they shared 37 awesome years. They were true soulmates. He was a dad to her three sons, Todd, Chad, and Matt, whom he loved like his own. 
He was an outdoorsman, a true mountain man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and backpacking in Colorado. He climbed 50 of the 54, 14,000’ peaks in Colorado after he was 65. He taught his daughters, sons, and grandchildren to love the outdoors. He was eager to share his knowledge. 
Robert was involved in the community and Southland Baptist Church until Parkinson’s made his movements painful and difficult. He didn’t enjoy meetings but would help with any difficult physical project. He helped repair homes for Christmas in April. He would always return and help recipients long after repairs were completed. 
Robert was President of West Texas Boys Ranch for two terms and a lifetime member of the Board. He served two terms as President of Samaritan Counseling Center. He was a member of the Board for Central National Bank. He was also an original member of the Board for Hope House. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Jarrott Smith. Robert is survived by his wife Beverly; his daughter Elisa and her husband Scott Steger, grandchildren Mattie and Caroline Steger; son Todd and his wife Sonia Harper, grandchildren Haylee and Jeffrey Sharpton, Emilee and Chase Moreland, great-grandchildren Alayna and Harrison, granddaughter Preslee Harper; son Chad and wife Cindy Harper, grandchildren Alexander and Elizabeth Harper; son Matt and wife Michelle Harper, grandchildren Lindsay and Peyton Harper; Grandson Preston and Kate Smith, great grandchildren Cooper, Milo, and Letta Jane Smith; Grandson Phillip and Amanda Smith, great grandchildren Lilah Marie and Murphy Smith; and a brother Milton Nickel and wife Rebecca. He is also survived by Raymond Meza and Juan Contreras, who were family by choice. 
The last five years, Robert had limited movement as the Parkinsons disease progressed. He never complained or quit trying to accomplish tasks. He was a hero to all who knew him. 
A viewing will be from 8am- 7pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at Harper Funeral Home. The services will be private the following day.

Steven Michael Norman, age 68, passed away on June 27, 2020 in San Angelo, TX. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, July 18, 2020 at Harper Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX. Private burial will follow at a later date. 

Steve was born in Eden, TX to Billy & Addie Lee Norman on August 14, 1951. He graduated from Eden High School and attended Southwest Texas State University. He married Pauline Matthews on February 1, 1997. He retired after 26 years from University of Texas on May 31, 2006. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and spent many days enjoying hunting and fishing on the family ranch in Eden. He had a kind soul, generous spirit, memorable sense of humor and was loved by anyone who knew him. 

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Addie Lee, and his son, Daniel Norman. 

Steve is survived by his wife, Pauline; Daughters Karen (Ky) Fussell, Tammy (Jason) Leonhardt, and Wendy (Steve) Eller, and son Billy Norman; Brother Terry Norman (Barbara); grandchildren Kadence Fussell, Tara (Tyson) Thompson, Jordan (Megan) Klacman, Dakota Klacman, and Dylan Billings; great granddaughters Presley Klacman and Henley Thompson, and great grandson Gavin Billings. 

Steve had a fondness for St Jude's Children's Hospital and kindly requested that all memorials be given to them. The family of Steve wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hospice of San Angelo, Debra Woods, Reverend Celia Ellery, and all the many friends who were here with kind words and support. We could not have done it without you all.

Frieda Gerlach Stelling age 92 of San Angelo died July 2, 2020, at Talley House at Sagecrest in San Angelo.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10:30 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Paul Zwarich, will officiate. Cremation arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

She was born Frieda Henrietta Gerlach, on August 4, 1927, in Ashland, Ohio to Henry B and Augusta Walter Gerlach. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she went to Washington, D.C. to work for the Public Health Service of the U.S. Government. She also worked for the Navy Department and later went to the District of Columbia National Guard as secretary to the Adjutant General. One year later she became the secretary to the Commanding General and held that position for 28 years.

After retirement in 1984, she came to San Angelo to work for her brother, Werner Gerlach and his wife Celia at Gerlach Graphic Consultations, until the business was sold in 1987. Frieda had volunteered in the gift shop at San Angelo Community Hospital for a number of years, she was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she served as Council President, Newsletter Editor Worship Chairman and past president of Calvary’s 49+ Senior Group. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In 1989, she married her longtime friend and the love of her life, Harry E. Stelling.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Harry; her parents; three brothers; a sister; and a sister-in-law.

Frieda is survived by her beloved niece and caregiver, Joyce G. O’Connell of San Angelo; nieces, Lyn Miller of Cleveland, Ohio, Shaun Pomiecko and her family of Bainbridge, Ohio, Nancy Gerlach of Cleveland, Ohio; and a nephew, Henry Gerlach of Cleveland, Ohio; great-nephews, Brian O’Connell and wife Nuray, Matthew O’Connell and wife Brittany; a great-niece Amanda Bogard and husband Ross and their families; a step-son Donald Stelling of Reno, Nevada; a step- daughter, Linda Anderson of Cumberland, MD; and numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Elida Constancia Ramon, beloved wife, mother, and Nana, went to be with her Lord on June 30, 2020.

Lilly, as she was known to all who loved her, was born September 1, 1949 in Melvin, Texas to Jesus & Maria Constancia. She married the love of her life, Amalio D. Ramon, on July 24, 1970. They made their home in Menard, Texas and raised three children.

Lilly lived for and loved her Lord and Savior and loved her family just as much. She and her husband were the best of friends. Her children meant everything to her and her grandchildren (her “6-pack”) were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Amalio Sr, two sons Amalio Jr and Larry, daughter Cindy and husband Gary; and grandchildren Amalio West, Marcos Ryan, Lisa Reneé, Tyler Hunter, Aaron Mario, and Landon Cruz.

She is also survived by her siblings: Bertha Martinez, Nelia Flores, Luvin Constancia, Lupe Lopez, Amanda Lopez, Martha Corrales, Dora Urteaga, Ninfa Aguero, and Joe Constancia.

She was welcomed into heaven by her father & mother, her brother Jesus Constancia Jr and sister Marylou Botello, as well as several of her nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Lilly’s life will be held at a later date... “If the Lord’s willing”.

JoElda Jalomo, 49, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020, in San Angelo.

No services are scheduled. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Miss. Jalomo was born October 24, 1970, in Stephenville to Daniel and Angelita Jalomo. She has been a resident of San Angelo since 2011 moving from Ballinger. JoElda worked for Community Medical Center as a Dietary Technician from 2014 until earlier this year. Former member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger. She was the #1 Dallas Cowboys fan. JoElda loved listening to music, cooking, and spending time and taking care of her family and friends. She was a hard worker and was a very strong-willed woman.

Survivors include her daughter, Candace Esquivel of San Angelo; her son John Esquivel of San Angelo; her beloved granddaughter, Caelan Martinez of San Angelo; four sisters, Anna Martinez of Ballinger, Rebecca Cavazos and husband Eddie of Lubbock, Irene Jalomo of Ballinger, and Tina Thormeyer and husband Tom of Tuscola; four brothers, John Joe Rivera and wife Kristine of Midland, Oscar Rivera of Ballinger, Catarino Rivera, Jr. of Clyde, and Frank Jalomo of San Antonio; Joelda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Daniel Gomez Jalomo, Jr., and Mario Raul Rivera; and a sister-in-law, Joann Rivera.

Pedro Leyva Santellano, 81, passed away Monday, June 29, 2020, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will be from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Ramiro Borrego, officiating. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2020, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Jesus Ordez, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the director of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Santellano was born January 31, 1939, in Mexico. Pedro married Maria Consuelo on December 5, 1958, in Jimenez, Mexico. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2018. Pedro was a construction worker, working Bailey Bridge Co. for 23 years, later worked for various concrete finishing companies before his retirement in 1997. Pedro was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witness. Pedro loved driving around in his HHR listening to Mexican Music. He loved to cook. Pedro was all willing to help those in need. He never met a stranger. Pedro was a loving father, grandfather, and friend.

Survivors include two sons, Pedro Santellano, Jr. and wife Janelle, Josue U. Santellano and wife Susanna; three daughters, Marlene Santellano and husband Fidel Hernandez, Iliana Santellano, and Gabrielle Santellano and husband Noel Lopez; 16 grandchildren, Bryan Santellano, Brent Santellano, Allen Santellano, Victoria Santellano, Veronica Santellano, Joshua Santellano, Justin Santellano, Jade Santellano, Ayden Santellano, Calvin Rodriguez, Ismerai Rodriguez, Christian Cuellar, Kristopher Juarez, Mark Juarez, Sebastian Juarez, and Adolfo Ocampo; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Elena Moreno, and Mercedes Franco; two brothers, Juan Santellano, and Eloy Santellano.

Pedro was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Sophia Leyva Santellano, a brother, Remigio Santellano.

Serving as her pallbearers will be six of her grandsons, Calvin Rodriguez, Joshua Santellano, Justin Santellano, Kristopher Juarez, Mark Juarez, and family friend Jakob Torres.

Michael Durand Kelly passed away peacefully to join his parents and loved ones in heaven on June 24, 2020. He was born to Benjamin F. Kelly and Alvetta Spurlock Kelly on March 8, 1958. Michael grew up in San Angelo, Texas and graduated from Central High School. After high school, Michael attended Angelo State University. Michael worked as a graphic artist for Newman Design Company, Standard Times and Town & Country Design department. 
As a lifelong graphics artist one of his most defining moments was his graphics business MDK Multimedia, Artist, Designer and Consultant. Michael was business minded, always reading and researching new business topics. He loved to talk to young people with encouragement of starting their own business, whatever their talent or passion was. To those of you who helped Michael with his business projects, we say Thank you. 
Michael’s second passion was cooking for friends and family. His favorite meal to cook was breakfast, which was known as “Big Breakfast”. 
Michael remained brave throughout his final weeks. To all those who knew him, he never lost that unique since of humor. 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: two sisters, Sharon Kelly Rivers of Missouri City, Texas and Patricia Kelly Thompson of San Angelo, Texas. His self-adopted daughters, Hope Aguero of San Angelo, Texas and Stephanie Losoya of San Angelo, Texas. Michael also leaves behind two aunts Dessie Kelly of Inglewood, CA and Bobbie Kelly of Clinton, MD., a nephew, Andre Thompson, Kelien Thompson and Alyssa Thompson and a host of relatives and friends, including his very special friends, Steve Flores, Don Schaaf, Ken Milton, Curry Hawkins Charles Njemanze, Yuel Harris, Dr. Steven Hines, Leo Cornejo and Family. 
Our family expresses deep appreciation to the Doctor’s, staff members and nurses at Angelo Community Medical Center and Shannon Medical Center for the love, care and attention that was giving to Michael. 

A funeral service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on July 3, 2020, at 11:00am. 

Donations can be made to the Ben & Alvetta Kelly Football Scholarship Endowment at Angelo State University, which will annually award a scholarship to a member of the ASU Rams football team.
