Colleyville Covenant Christian climbs out of hole to beat Houston Cypress Christian 40-30

Colleyville Covenant Christian fell behind early but rebounded in the first quarter of a 40-30 win over Houston Cypress Christian in a Texas high school football matchup on December 19.

The Cougars’ train of momentum chugged along the final-quarter tracks with a 6-2 points differential.

The Cougars’ position showed as they carried a 34-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

Colleyville Covenant Christian’s offense moved to a 28-21 lead over Houston Cypress Christian at halftime.

The Warriors showed they were ready to play, using an early thrust to carve out a 14-7 advantage over the Cougars as the first quarter ended.

Emilio Hernandez Diaz

Emilio Hernandez Diaz 87, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 surrounded by his family. 
Emilio was born in Ciudad Sabinas Coahuila, Mexico to Jesus Diaz Iruegas and Concepcion on October 6, 1933. Emilio met the love of his life Maria Angela Gallegos, together they had twelve children and were married 66 years. The family moved from Mexico to Texas to California and back to Texas. He taught himself to play guitar and wrote, sang, and recorded many songs. He was called El Charro Completo by many of his friends. 
Mr. Diaz is preceded in death by his son Jesus Diaz I. 
Emilio Diaz Senior is survived by his wife of 66 years Maria Angela Diaz; 11 children Carlos Diaz and wife Evelia, Concepcion Estrada and husband Jose, Emilio Diaz Jr. and wife Maria, Patricia Lechuga and husband Javier, Jesus Diaz and wife Rosa, Angelica Rodarte and husband Hugo, Delia Garza and husband Jorge, Velia Fernandez and husband Oscar, Juan Diaz and wife Jaqueline, Antonio Diaz and wife Mercedes, Gustavo Diaz and wife Beth; along with 37 Grandchildren and 43 Great Grandchildren. 
A Rosary service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:15 PM with burial to follow at Miles Cemetery.

Marvin Dewitt Boyd

Marvin Dewitt Boyd, of San Angelo, passed away on December 21, 2020 at the age of 67. He was born on June 20, 1953 in Graham, Texas to parents Leonard and Mary Jo (Thompson) Boyd. 

He graduated from Seminole High School in 1972, where he was coached in football and track & field by his father, who was his hero. He attended New Mexico Junior College on a track & field scholarship and then transferred to Angelo State University where he played on the football team. 

He married Mary Ann Economidis on June 9, 1979 in San Angelo, Texas. 

Marvin started his career as a salesman for Angelo Sporting Goods, worked for Athletic Supply for over 30 years, and then worked for Gandy Ink for 9 years. 

Family was always his first love and he cared deeply for his wife, kids, and parents. He supported his kids in all of their activities and never failed to attend an event in which they were participating. He had an immense love for athletics, especially track & field. He was an avid supporter of all local high school and college teams. There were few Fridays and Saturdays in the fall that you would not finhd him at a football or volleyball game and Saturdays in the spring where you would not find him at a track meet, baseball, or softball game. For many years, he started local cross country and outdoor track meets. He looked forward to the state track meet every year, both as a worker and spectator. He was also a passionate Baylor Bear fan, and anyone who met him knew his love for the Bears. 

Marvin never met a stranger and loved talking about family and sports. 

Marvin is survived by his wife Mary Ann of San Angelo, Tx; daughter Melissa Nash and husband Chad of Fort Worth, Tx; son Matthew of Fort Worth, Tx; mother Mary Jo of San Angelo, Tx; sister Carol Kelley and husband William of Pittsburg, Tx; aunt Mary Helen Sanders and husband Don of Benbrook, Tx; aunt Betty West of Sherman, Tx; uncle James Thompson of Decatur, Il; aunt Mildred Baker of Clearwater, Fl; father-in-law Greg Economidis and wife Eddie Mae of San Angelo, Tx; brother-in-law John Economidis and wife Elaine of Flower Mound, Tx; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Leonard. 

He attended Paul Ann Church and looked forward to Sunday morning services. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the “Believing for More” building fund at Paul Ann Church.

Please make sure that you memorandum 
”Believing for More” building fund. 

Because of the many lives he touched, Marvin will be missed by so many family members and special friends. 

Due to current restrictions, a service will not be held at this time. A memorial service will take place in June of 2021.

Ozella (Houston) Hawkins

Ozella "Pat" Hawkins, age 95 of San Angelo departed this life on December 22, 2020.

Public viewing will be on Tuesday, December 29th from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on December 30th at 1:00 PM at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Pat was born April 7, 1925 to James and Ethel Lee Jones Houston in Jarrell, Texas. She was the oldest of three children including her sister, Helen Dailey and her brother Raymond Houston. She graduated from Carver High School in Georgetown, Texas and attended Huston-Tillotson University for two years. 

She married the love of her life, Cleota Hawkins Jr on February 21, 1947 in San Angelo and traveled the world during his thirty years of military service before settling back down in San Angelo. It was in San Angelo that she retired as a teaching assistant at Blackshear Elementary School.

Pat enjoyed going to social functions, fishing with friends and was an avid bingo player. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Houston; her sister Helen Willie Dailey and by her husband, Cleota Hawkins Jr. 

Pat leaves to cherish her memories one loving brother, Raymond Houston of Parsons, Kansas; her son Currie Hawkins and his wife Linda of The Colony, Texas; two grandsons Elika and Kalani Hawkins of Phoenix, Arizona; five nieces, Helen Person of St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley Tisdale of Temple, Texas, Jackie Moss of Parsons, Kansas, Tim McBeyers of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Jerrilyn Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; special friends, Imogene and French Moreland of Houston, Texas, Ella Mae Johnson of San Angelo, Texas, Mr. Ralph Powell of San Angelo, Texas, and Francis and Clarence Willis of San Angelo, Texas.
