William "Bill" R. Schwartz

04/04/2024 - 13:33 , by TKing09

William R. (Bill) Schwartz, born in San Angelo, TX on April 24, 1940, to Stella (Wilde) and William R. Schwartz, bid farewell to this world on March 31, 2024. In 1964, he married Betty Havlak in Wall, TX. Together they raised six children on their farm.

As a young man, Bill learned the ways of the land from his father. As he grew, so did his passion for cotton farming. His life was a testament to the enduring spirit of the American farmer, marked by dedication and a deep-rooted love for family. He always looked forward to hunting, fishing, coffee with friends at the gin and traveling with his wife to all 50 states and several countries. After retirement, Bill could be found in the sunroom of his home, enjoying the sunrise or waiting for someone to walk in so he could deliver his favorite line, “when’d you get here?”. The smile on his face when telling stories of the cars he had once raced, the history of how his homestead came about and many other recaps of his adventurous life proved that he was a man who lived life to the fullest, cherishing every moment and memory.

Bill was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He served on the Wall Parish Council and was instrumental in the planning and completion of the parish hall. He was past president of Wall Young Farmers and an Area II Star Young Farmer in 1975. Bill was pivotal in developing and implementing the Boll Weevil Program and served on the board of Tom Green County WCID.

He is survived by his wife Betty; his children Letitia Schwartz (Alex) of Central Valley CA, Jill Brown (Allen) of Armstrong, Neil Schwartz of Miles, Bridget Mullin of Atascocita, Todd Schwartz (Kim) of San Angelo; his grandchildren Austin Miller (Sara) of Shiner, Laken Miller (Austin) of Kingsland, Dylan Schwartz (Brittnee) of Abilene, Cody Schwartz of Boise, ID, Brett and Drake Mullin of Atascocita, Davis, Parker and Sterling Schwartz of San Angelo; great- grandchildren Layton, Decker, Daxton and Heidi Schwartz of Abilene, Marley Miller and Stetson Freeman of Kingsland; siblings Laverne Schniers, Carolyn Strube (Jimmy), sisters-in-law Betty Joyce Schwartz, Sandra Jansa (Leonard), Lillie Havlak and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will carry his legacy forward with pride and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jason Schwartz; son-in-law John Mullin; siblings David Schwartz, Mercedes Jost, Alice Glass; brothers-in-law Edgar Glass, Jimmy Schniers, John Jost and B.J. Havlak; nieces Gaynell Green and Kristie Havlak.

The Rosary vigil will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 6:00 PM. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be his grandsons Austin Miller, Dylan and Cody Schwartz, Brett and Drake Mullin and Davis and Parker Schwartz.

04/04/2024 - 13:30 , by TKing09

Rixie Ellen (Williams) Connell passed into the loving arms of her savior Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Midland, Texas. She was born on May 22, 1948 in San Angelo, Texas to Ocie and Mary Williams. Her future father-in-law took her and her mother home by ambulance from the hospital.

Rixie attended San Jacinto Elementary, Washington and Eddison Jr. High and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1966. In her senior year of school, she was coach Emory Bellard’s student secretary. After graduation she attended San Angelo business college. She started working at Johnson’s Funeral Home a week before Easter in 1967 where she met her soon-to-be husband Bobby Connell that had returned home from college. On August 22, 1968 they had their first date and became engaged on Thanksgiving of 1968. She married Specialist 4 Bobby Connell on November 8th, 1969 in San Angelo. She returned to Ft. Lewis Washington with Bobby until his discharge from the Army. She helped support Bobby on his return to college until his graduation in 1972 from the University of Texas in Austin, TX. They moved to Midland where Bobby coached tennis at Lee High School and Rixie was a homemaker. Two daughters, Christy, and Jennifer were born in 1973 and 1978 making their family complete. She supported her girls in everything they did and took hundreds of pictures of gymnastics, diving, and soccer. Rixie was the ultimate soccer mom/grandmother cheering for her daughters, then grandkids Haylie, Hayden and Hadley and now her great grandsons, Brecken and Harrison. She rarely missed a game, whether soccer or football and was a pro at taking fabulous action shot photos at the games.

Rixie was a lady of many talents and an artist in the truest sense. She taught painting classes at her home and partnered with Paint Dauber and Sunshine Girls for several years. She was an astute businesswoman, she was part of Expressions Gift Shop, one of the founders of the Ivy Cottage, and a partner in Once Upon a Time and then worked part time with Anita Goudeau Fine Jewelry. She had hand painted stools that were in the Governor’s Mansion and the White House that belonged to the Bush twins. After retiring, she got into genealogy doing tons of research that produced many binders full of family pasts of her and Bobby’s lineage.

Rixie loved her family and relished all the events in her children’s lives, delighting in her grandchildren’s successes, and totally grateful and proud of her family posting the latest photos of their adventures. She was a steadfast and loyal friend to so many. Her talent and creativity will be sorely missed. She loved bunco, crafting, being with family and friends and traveling overseas. She loved to travel with friends and traveled to Europe close to a dozen times loving each time. She loved Christmas and always hosted fun gatherings. Her extensive Christmas decorations were a delight to all. Friends and family knew to get those Coca Cola items for her. Her latest project was assisting and memorializing Bobby’s involvement in the Permian Basin Honor Flight honoring veterans.

Rixie is survived by her husband, Bobby Brooks Connell, her daughter Christy Conner, son-in-law James Conner, daughter Jennifer Connell, grandchildren Haylie Conner and fiancé Jerry Garcia, Hayden Conner and wife Haylee, Hadley Conner and fiancé Hian Lujan, great grandchildren Brecken Garcia, Harrison Lujan, Mason Conner, Harleigh Lujan, Brooks Joe Conner and baby girl Garcia (due summer of 2024), all of Midland, sister in law Fred Mae Connell of Houston, nieces Connie Connell Beam of Houston and Kari Elizabeth Corley of Atlanta.

William "Bruce" Griffith

04/04/2024 - 13:27 , by TKing09

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead has risen William “Bruce” Griffith from death to life on March 30, 2024. Having suffered a traumatic brain injury on November 1, 2023, Bruce was unable to make a recovery and succumbed to the effects of the injury. By God’s grace and power Bruce was relieved of his flesh and obtained his glorious body In Christ at age 85.

(Romans 8:11, Philippians 3:21)

Bruce was born to Adron and Lillie (Ezma Grittman) Griffith in Pecos, Texas on August 9, 1938. He graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1956. While attending Texas A&M University, he snatched Lucy Gale Wilmeth from all the single ladies and made her his wife on February 3, 1960. Their covenant of marriage to each other and Jesus, laid a strong foundation and precedence for their children and grandchildren. Loving assurance remains as the greatest inheritance for generations to come.

With Lucy’s love and support, Bruce gained an Animal Husbandry degree from Texas A&M in 1961 and a Masters of Science in 1972. His love and high regard for A&M remained with him the rest of his life resulting in all three of his sons also making it their college of choice. He also has an Aggie daughter in law and granddaughter as well. From college Bruce began working as a County Extension Agent. First in Terry County in 1961, then Crosby County in 1965, and finally in Howard County 1971. He was honored with a Distinguished Agent Award in 1976. In 1979 Bruce moved into the position of an Agriculture Loan Officer and Vice President of First National Bank of Big Spring, followed by becoming President of Coahoma State Bank and then Executive Vice President of Lone Star Bank. Retiring in 2013, he and Lucy made a move to San Angelo, TX in 2019.

Bruce loved people and had a heart to serve. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club, Coahoma Lions Club, and served on the Coahoma School Board for 12 years. He earnestly gave his heart and soul to serving as an Elder at Birdwell Lane Church of Christ from 1979-2019. He took seriously the Lord’s commissioning of him to oversee and care for the members of the church. Additionally, his favorite title of all was “D-Da” to his 7 grandchildren.

Loving God with all of his heart and loving others as himself perfectly epitomized Bruce Griffith. From the overflow of his love for God he loved his Family, his Country and Texas A&M. He will be sorely missed by these loved ones surviving him in death: Wife Lucy Griffith. Children: Bret and Lynne Griffith, Bart and LeeAnne Griffith, Mike and Elisa Griffith. Grandchildren: Will, Craig and Tyler, Whit, Colebin, Caden, Cason, and Canon. Siblings: Neal Griffith and wife Roi Sue. Nephew and Niece: John Griffith and Emily Boudreaux.

The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their oversight and help tending to Bruce over the last several months. Thank you to Visiting Angels, Jasmin Smith and Faith Martinez, for their attention and caretaking. Much love and thanks to the church family at Southgate Church of Christ for all the visits, meals and prayers. Thank YOU if you have prayed for, sent cards, made a phone call and shared the love of Jesus with us during this journey.

Patricia "Pat" Suzanne Hendrick

04/01/2024 - 10:43 , by TKing09

Patricia “Pat” Suzanne Hendrick, 70, of San Angelo, Tx took her final breath quietly at her home on March 23, 2024. Pat was born on September 26, 1953, to Harry Allen and Willie Mae Cole. Surrounded by her siblings, Barbara, Carolyn, Sandy, Allen, and Becky; Pat found her early life in Ballinger to be both challenging and wonderful. It wasn’t long before her adolescence gave way to adulthood and a tall handsome man came into her life. On December 21, 1969, Pat was elated to become Mrs. John Stephen Hendrick, and with that marriage the two were happy to welcome into this world 3 children, Laura Lee, Danna Lynn, and John Patrick. Though her days were filled with caring for their children, Pat made time to continue her education, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. Through marriage, and being a military spouse, Pat was also able to live a life that took her all over the world and back, finally landing close to home in San Angelo. Here she loved spending time taking her granddaughters, who were keen to visit, on shopping trips where they found passion in fun clothes. Without mistake those travels gave Pat a larger world view but it never changed her love of music, dancing, and cooking, which her children and grandchildren loved, especially the meringue pies, possibly the banana pudding as well. Though the smells of the food may have waned, Pat’s love of art and her many paintings and drawings will forever adorn her families’ homes, giving them not only a spectacular work of art but a memory that will never fade.

Pat was preceded in death by her grandparents Leo and Alice Cole and JW and Zanna Watkins, her parents Harry Allen and Willie Mae Cole, her sister Carolyn Strongarone, and her dog Jakey, he was the extra kid of the house.

Pat is survived by her loving husband John who will forever consider her his yellow rose of Texas, her children Laura (Don) Harris, Danna (Basi) Hendrick, and John (Cathie Norris) Hendrick, grandchildren Justin (Tiffany)Harris, Justin (Amaris) Miller, Patrick (Nichole) Harris, Lanna (Matthew) Fetterhoff, Sarah De La Fuente, Nykayla (Garrett) Reidelberger, John Colton, Brooklynn, Zayden, and Harlow Hendrick. Great grandchildren Damon, Derek, Leya, Audrina, Nolan, JJ, Callie, and Mia. Her sisters Barbara Smith, Sandy Benson, Becky Hoelscher, and her brother Allen Cole. She is also survived by many more family members, lifelong friends, and John and Pat’s newest four legged baby Maggie May.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 20, 2024 at 2 pm at the Rio Concho West Clubhouse, 6359 Appaloosa Trail, San Angelo, 76901 . This will be a time to share stories, embrace the love Pat had for us all, and to be with her once again. We ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to charity of your choice in Pat’s name as a reminder of her passion towards life and her unquestionable strength.
