James Scott Heroy

02/26/2024 - 10:07 , by TKing09

On Friday, February 23, 2024, James Scott Heroy was called home to the Lord. He was born on October 23, 1964, to Sidney Peter Heroy and Donna L. Heroy in New Brunswick, NJ. He is survived by Angie Heroy; son, Colten Heroy and his wife, Arabella Heroy, and their son, Noah; daughter, Rebekah Heroy; sister, Cathy Wood and her husband Twig Wood; sister, Kelly Olgetree; and brother, Matthew Heroy. He was also a light to his many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much as well as his entire church family.

In his early years, he enjoyed competing in bull riding events and worked at the stockyards in San Antonio before finally settling in San Angelo. There, he worked at Producers for many years until eventually he answered the call to be an LVN where he could show his kindness and love to others in need. In 1990, he attended and quickly became a pivotal member of Immanuel Baptist church. His strong faith in the Lord drove him to serve wherever was needed, including driving the bus, organizing the greeters and offertory, teaching Sunday school lessons, and most recently becoming a Deacon of the church. Scott’s pride and joy were his children and he delighted in their accomplishments. He took great pleasure in the latest news of his first grandchild.

Visitation will be at Johnson’s Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held the following morning at 10:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church. From there, everyone will proceed to Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens for the burial. Scott Heroy was a man of faith and a beloved family member. He will be greatly missed.

Wilma Ripple Lichnovsky

02/24/2024 - 14:28 , by TKing09

Wilma Joyce Ripple Lichnovsky, 89, of San Angelo, Texas, died on February 21, 2024.

Wilma was born April 12, 1934, in San Angelo, the first child of Frank R. and Helen (Young) Ripple, Jr. Soon after graduating with the San Angelo High School Class of 1952, she married Eldon Joseph "E.J." Lichnovsky on July 13, 1952. Wilma lived in San Angelo throughout life and thrived in the motor freight business. Beginning as a secretary at Merchant Motor Lines, she soon joined Sunset Motor Lines and remained with the organization and its successors for 44 years. From 1986 until retirement in 1996, Wilma was manager of the San Angelo terminal for ABF Freight System, performing direct sales and supervising the efforts of as many as 30 office personnel, loaders, and drivers. Breaking through the glass ceiling, she was her region's sole female terminal manager and one of the USA's first female motor freight terminal managers. Although busy with her full-time job, she found time to take continuing education courses in Real Estate and Finance at Angelo State University, resulting in a plunge into the residential rental business she was actively involved in until her death.

Wilma (aka, Sis, Mom, Gram, Grammy, More Gigi) was the matriarch of a family she loved dearly. She taught us all the value of hard work, independence, and, most importantly, the value of family and loving one another. Wilma enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, walking, touring, and dancing, and she was always ready for a casino trip. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time and going on trips with her family and friends. Her love of family extended beyond her direct circle, and she always looked forward to the annual Gus Young family reunion, where she stayed connected to her extended family.

At a San Angelo High School reunion in 1998, she renewed her friendship with classmate Charles Koberg, and they became partners and traveling companions for the next 20+ years. Wilma was a past member of the Wall Brethren Church, Concho Pearls Lions Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Elks Lodge, NDTA, and the San Angelo Singles Club. She volunteered at Lion's functions, including Rodeo concessions and pancake breakfasts. She also volunteered at the Meals for the Elderly and The Salvation Army.

Her parents, her husband, a stepson Randy W. Lichnovsky, her brother-in-law Jerry Martin, her nephew Michael Martin, her son-in-law Charles "Skip" Harless III, and her special friend and companion Charles Koberg preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters Katherine Harless of Irving, Kandis Binyon of San Angelo, Diana (Bill) Perkins of San Angelo, and Tonice (Don) Hulse of Saint Augustine FL. There are seven grandchildren: Christopher (Brandon) Womack of Coronado CA, William Harless of Los Angeles CA, Brandi (Robert) Mapel of San Angelo, Whitney (Justin) Garay of New Braunfels, Cody Binyon of San Angelo, J.D. (Cortney) Hulse of Birmingham AL, and Jordan Hulse of Avondale AZ. She leaves seven great-grandchildren: Braxton Womack, Kasen Garay, Kinsley Garay, Presley Harless, Collins Mapel, Harper Hulse, and Hayden Hulse. Her sister Priscilla Martin, nephew Kenny Martin, and niece Tammy Easterly of OK. She also leaves the extended families of Judy Lanzafame, Ruth Lichnovsky, Charles Harless IV, and Ely Harless.

A special thank you to Dr. Kristy Edwards and Staff and Brandy from Visiting Angels for their care and support.

Visitation will be at Johnson’s Funeral Home on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 2:00-4:00pm. Graveside services will be Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10:00am at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

The family requests donations, instead of flowers, to Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expy, San Angelo, TX, 76903 or Shriners Hospital, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Shirlene "Chickie" Sahleen Klein

02/22/2024 - 09:40 , by TKing09

Shirlene (Chickie) Sahleen Klein, 87, went to be with her Lord on February 19, 2024.

She was born to Gladys and Gunnard Sahleen on September 1, 1936. She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver, Ken, sister Jan Capps of Portland, Oregon and brother and sister-in law Bob and Alice Sahleen of Oregon City, Oregon and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 10:00 A.M. at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.

Shirlene lived a very multifaceted life. She started playing piano and organ at a very young age and was playing in church as a teenager. After graduating from high school in Portland she attended several bible colleges where she played piano for gospel quartets.

She went on to graduate from the University of Oregon and started a career in teaching in Huntington Beach, California. She also played organ in several large churches in the area. She then took a job teaching in the federal poverty program in the Watts section of Los Angeles. She saw first hand the challenges young kindergarten children faced living in this area. Her graduate work helped her became a career counselor at the University of Southern California. Shirlene went on to join President Richard Nixon's administrative staff at the Western White House in San Clemente, California. Just before the Watergate scandal hit she was transferred to San Diego, California to open a new Federal government Information center in the lobby of City Hall. It was there she met her future husband Ken who had to walk by her every day to his job as Assistant City Planning Director. They were married 6 months later in LaJolla, California. She loved to square dance and enrolled Ken in accelerated square dance lessons soon after they returned from their honeymoon. This resulted in them attending square and country western dances several times a week throughout much of their marriage. She also liked to travel and they visited many countries in Europe, the middle east and far east. During a visit to Israel she was baptized in the Jordan River.

Shirlene had a very strong entrepreneurial spirit and decided to obtain her California Real Estate Brokers license and opened Klein Realty in San Diego with a partnership with a apartment broker in Dallas, Texas. She would send her investor clients to Dallas and the other Broker would close the sales. She soon realized the opportunities in investing in apartments and convinced Ken to retire at age 42 and become a real estate investor, developer and Realtor. She found properties to purchase in California, Arizona . Utah and Texas and then turned them over to Ken to close the sales and manage. This resulted in them moving to Dallas and then to San Angelo when she found a property for Ken to develop on Lake Ivie.

When they moved to San Angelo they opened Klein Realty with Shirlene serving as the Broker. While she spent much time working on the company she realized her first love was really music. This resulted in her playing piano in local nursing homes, substitute playing organ in several local churches and also playing for the San Angelo Singing Boys. In 2001she was hired by Sierra Vista United Methodist Church to play piano and organ. She held this position for nearly 17 years until she suffered a stroke.

Shirlene looked forward to gospel month each year when she would crank up the piano with gospel music while church members were arriving for a service. She also loved her country and military and would play special songs on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day like Salute to The Troops, Stars and Stripes Forever and God Bless America.

Shirlene will be remembered by her husband Ken for her love and support and influencing his career and spiritual life. She will be remembered by Sierra Vista Methodist Church for her god given musical talent.

Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com.
