Sara Anne Albert

04/18/2021 - 09:25 , by TKing09

Sara Anne Albert (Newby) 80, passed peacefully on April 12, 2021. Sara was born December 28, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to J.D. “Jack” and Johnnie Rae Newby. After relocating to San Angelo, Texas at the age of 5, Sara spent her formative years attending Austin Elementary, Robert E. Lee Junior High and San Angelo Central High School. After graduating, Sara attended Southwest Texas State University and San Angelo College (now Angelo State University) majoring in Art. Around this time, she married Terry Albert on her birthday in 1961 and they remained by one another’s side until Terry’s passing 58 days prior to hers. Sara devoted her life to Terry, raising their three children and being an active member in the community. Sara’s strong faith guided her throughout her life. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she also taught Sunday School classes and was involved in Youth Fellowship as a chaperone. She was active in PTA throughout her children’s early schooling and functioned as a den mother and troop leader for Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scout troops. Volunteer work was close to her heart as she maintained involvement in Meals on Wheels and was a board member for The J.P.W. Memorial Foundation. Sara’s love of animals and nature began at an early age and led her down many paths. She became licensed through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a wildlife rehabilitator and received a federal permit allowing her to work with raptors and migratory birds. She was always appreciative of the many volunteers and friends who offered their time and energy to help support to this endeavor. Sara also founded the non-profit: Because It’s Right, which provided treatment and care for orphaned, sick, and injured animals, with the goal of recovery and return to the wild, as well as outreach programs for educational purposes. Despite her dedication to this effort, she ultimately had to step away due to her diagnosis of lung disease; however, she never lost her desire to help in any way she could all the way until her passing. Sara opened and operated The Green Heron for several years, which offered pet lodging, event rental and gift shop. She also loved gardening and took great pride in creating beautiful spaces that when working in them, she found it to be wonderfully therapeutic and relaxing.
Sara is preceded in death by Terry, her parents and brother Jim Newby of Grapevine. She is survived by daughter Karin Childress (Ira) of Ozona, son Devin Albert (Sherry) of San Angelo, son Scot Albert (Stacy) of Coppell, grandchildren Karys Albert, Reagan Albert, Claire Childress, Emory Albert, Laney Albert all whom Sara loved with all her heart, sister Becky Abel (Barry) of Georgetown, sister-in-law Pam Newby (Grapevine), nieces Robin Graff (Fort Meyers, FL), Jessica Spann (Istanbul, Turkey), nephew Jay Newby (Grapevine) and great nephew Kenji Graff.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the wonderful people from Kindred Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and attention of Sara during her final weeks. With special thanks to Myra and Julie.
No funeral service will be held. In honor of the lives of Terry and Sara, a gathering of friends and family is planned for May 1, 2021 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Ruffini Chapel, 11 E. Avenue B, San Angelo, Tx. 76903.

Jennifer Adair Cerney

04/18/2021 - 09:21 , by TKing09

Jennifer Adair Cerney passed too soon from this earth on April 10, 2021. Jennifer’s middle name Adair came about while her mother was pregnant and watching a show called Finders of Lost Loves staring Deborah Adair. Her mother loved the actress and the name and that is how her middle name came about. To all who knew her, she like being called “Jenn” not Jenny.
Jennifer was always the fun one, competitive one, the athletic one, and was so generous of her time, money and talents. Jenn was very mechanically inclined, artistic, and so smart. As a child, Jennifer did not want barbies, she wanted race cars and motorcycles. She was such a tomboy throughout her life. In her younger years Jenn participated in every sport from t-ball, football, soccer, little league, and in high school cross country at Brookings High School in Brookings, Oregon. Jenn loved fastpitch softball and played centerfield. In the summer of 2002, she spent the summer maintaining trails in the Northwest Youth Corps on the Pacific Coast trail.
Jenn was not a big crowd or people person, and she formed very close and tight relationships. Jennifer loved to talk on the phone for hours at a time. Jenn was an overthinker. In her relationships she was always the sounding board, the yin to the others yang, and just an amazing person to know. You always knew where you stood with her. Jenn loved the songs Bob Marley’s – Don’t Worry About a Thing, and Don McLean’s “American Pie”
Later in life, Jenn married David Cerney in Brackettville, TX. Their daughter, Collins Adair Cerney was born in 2015. Jenn was a very loving mother and wife and always put herself last and made sure that her family was taken care of before herself. Jenn always told David, “143 – My love for you is without wax”. Jenn was an amazing fur baby mom to her cat Gucci and the two great Danes, Zoey and Flynn.
Jenn is survived by her husband David and daughter Collins of San Angelo, Texas, and son Toby Rosas of Mexico; parents, Mike and June (Clatfelter) Batty of Florence, Arizona; Surrogate father, Doug Hutton and his wife Linda of Brookings, Oregon; sisters Koni Quinn, Melanie Batty, and brother MAC Batty, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2021 at 11am at Liberty Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma. Memorials can be made to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, in Phoenix, AZ in her name.

Jennifer Benoist

04/18/2021 - 09:15 , by TKing09

Surrounded by loved ones, Jennifer Kim Benoist, 45, of San Angelo, took her last breath in the early morning of Wednesday, April 7, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Cancer.

Jennifer was born in San Angelo on April 20, 1975 to Danny and Floy Porter.

In July of 2019, Jennifer was diagnosed with a very aggressive Cancer. From then on, she made it her mission to show Cancer who was boss. She never backed down from the fight and truly lived by the motto, “die trying to live.”

Jennifer was a very hard worker and enjoyed working at Mitchell Buick GMC. When the time came for her to leave her “work-family,” it was with a heavy heart. She enjoyed photography, fishing, and endlessly taunting her family and friends. Even at her lowest of lows, she was always there for those she loved and cared for. She will always be remembered for her feistiness, compassion, and zaniness.

Jennifer’s bucket list was to visit the Red Wood Forest and Hoover Dam. All of which she was able to complete and so much more with the help of her traveling companions, daughter Kendra, son Gage, and family friend Christopher.

Jennifer is survived by her parents Floy and Danny Porter; her three children Shelby Johns, Kendra Saaranen, and Gage Stewart; her two grandchildren Louis and Genevieve Roberts; her two best friends Jackie Baggett and Enid Jackson; and numerous other friends she had met through the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held April 24th from 3pm to 6pm at Glenmore Park Pavilion.
