Carletta "Kitty" May Nurre

11/13/2024 - 09:59 , by TKing09

Kitty Nurre, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away after a spirited battle with cancer and went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Nov. 10, 2024, in San Angelo.

Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to Eunice and George Henry Brown Sr., Kitty spent much of her early life there with her parents and three younger brothers, G.H. Jr., Raymond and Claude. That was also where she was first grounded in her strong Catholic faith that sustained her throughout her life.

Kitty met the love of her life, Tom Nurre Sr., while he was in technical school at Keesler AFB in nearby Biloxi. Despite him being a Yankee from Iowa, he made enough of an impression during USO dances and other outings that they maintained a long-distance relationship through letters during his first Air Force assignment in Alaska. Tom and Kitty were married in her hometown on Dec. 26, 1963.

But just as the Air Force had brought them together, it also kept them apart while Tom served solo overseas assignments for much of their early marriage. They eventually reunited for an assignment in San Angelo, where their first two children, Mary and Tom Jr., were born. That’s also where the nomadic part of Kitty’s life as an Air Force wife really began. Next up was an assignment in the Philippines, a year on the Nurre Family farm in Iowa while Tom served during the Vietnam War, and an assignment to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska, where their third child, Virginia, was born.

With her family complete, Kitty then enjoyed her favorite assignment, four years in England, where she fell in love with everything from the people to the culture to the antiques to the chocolate. That was followed by further stops in San Antonio, Alaska, England, San Angelo, Virginia and San Antonio again, after which she and Tom retired back in San Angelo.

Throughout all of her travels and retirement, Kitty was a devoted wife, mother, caretaker, counselor and confidante and the foundation of her family. She was active in various Catholic Women’s groups and also enjoyed sewing and many other crafts, flower gardening, decorating the house for seasons and holidays, and reading. Later, her favorite hobby was becoming “Nana” and helping raise her three grandkids, Vince, Vicky and Cathy van Tuil, in Colorado. They will carry her love and positive influence with them forever.

Kitty is survived by her husband, Tom; their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steve Snyder; their son and daughter-in-law, Tom Nurre Jr. and Nana Laird; their daughter, Virginia; their three grandkids; and her brother, Claude Brown.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the folks at Shannon Home Health and St. Gabriel’s Hospice, who took such great care of Kitty in her final days.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held for Kitty on Friday, Nov. 22, at Johnson’s Funeral Home with visitation from 1-2 p.m. followed by a brief service at 2 p.m. and visitation until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the San Angelo Christians in Action organization.

Patricia Quale Bright

11/13/2024 - 09:52 , by TKing09

Patricia Quale-Bright, 75, peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home on October 24, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas. She was born on October 5, 1949 in San Angelo, Texas to Rollie Dee Odum Sr, and Christine Odum.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Scott Odum. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Tom Bright; her brother, Rollie Dee Odum Jr of San Antonio; her daughter, Deja Armstrong, husband Douglas and their six children: Emma, Erik, Ellie, Everson, Elisha and Egan; her son, Dhamon Quale of Austin; and five wonderful step children: Stephen Bright, wife AnaLisa and their two children Jeremiah and Cameron; Jason Bright, wife Amanda and their two children Lily and Tommy and unborn Travis; Randye Dunlap, partner Scott and her son Trey Baker; Leigh Bright Paille and her sons Jarett and Clayton; Carrie Ledet and her son Luke; her sister in law Ponda Rodrigue; niece Summer (Odum) Johnson, husband Aaron of Killeen, and their two sons: Jaeden and Aaryon. Patricia is also survived by her Aunt Ann Boisse; cousins Tawana Boisse, Tulisha Bennett, husband Casey and their daughter AnnMarie Bennett; as well as several dear cousins. In addition, “Pat” is survived by many New York relatives from her first marriage to Ralph Quale: brother in law Skip and his wife Karen; nephews Chris, Scott, Grant, Michael, Jesse, Max and her niece Chrissy.

Patricia grew up in Mereta, attended Fairview School, Edison Junior High and Central High School in San Angelo. She was a bit of a tomboy with a beautiful singing voice. She and her dear brother Dee made a lifetime of memories. Once, they were in a car accident while Patricia was driving. Before her parents arrived, Sister hit Brother in the head with her shoe so that her parents would be too worried about him to get mad at her. In the 8th grade, a smitten Tom Bright let Patricia borrow his baseball glove and they went on to attend several school dances together. They would part ways for several decades before finding their way back to each other.

After high school, Patricia spent most of the next 25 years raising her children Deja and Dhamon with her husband Ralph in the Buffalo, New York area. During those years, Patricia was always working when the family needed extra money. She was a pro at helping with school projects and never missed an activity her kids were involved in. Patricia loved to listen to the gospel music of Andrae Crouch on full volume while cleaning the house, working in her garden, or picking strawberries with her children.

When she relocated to Texas in the mid 1990’s, Trish and Tom found each other again. They worked together to remodel her home and were married on March 16, 2005. They spent time together traveling and cooking masterpieces from their chuck wagon, The Bertie Bell. Granny T adored all of her grandchildren and always made sure that her home was stocked with special treats, a magical toy table, and a gravel pit for endless hours of outdoor fun. She created lasting memories for her family around the Annual Pops Concert and Evening Christmas Light Parade, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved being known and loved as Granny T by her entire church family at Open Door Family Fellowship. (And she always made sure the church children didn’t take too much dessert at lunch).

Trish was an amazing cook, and rarely created a meal the same way twice. She was faithful, thoughtful, generous, and curious. She loved bright colors, big jewelry and her insect pins. One never knew what she was going to say, whether it would be profound, in song, hilarious, or outlandish. Trish would often tell people, “I’m sorry I said that, but I see life in cartoon.”

A Memorial Service for Patricia will take place at 2:00 in the afternoon, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. A livestream will be available on Harper Funeral Homes youtube page for those unable to attend in person. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Patricia Bright to Open Door Family Fellowship, PO Box 3989, San Angelo, TX 76902.

Kenneth Perkins

11/11/2024 - 16:51 , by TKing09

Kenneth Wayne Perkins, fondly known as Kenneth to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, in San Angelo, TX. Born on April 7, 1949, in Hollis, OK, Kenneth’s journey was one marked by dedication, service, and a love for the natural world. He was a faith-filled man, intelligent and creative, who approached life with the same vigor with which he tackled many interests.

A proud graduate of Central High School in 1967, Kenneth attended Angelo State University where he majored in History, a subject that remained dear to him throughout his life. His academic journey, however, was cut short by the Vietnam War. Kenneth served his country as a Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped much of his ethic and character. After his military service, he embarked on a career that would see him spend the lion’s share of his time in law enforcement and construction. In both fields, he was respected for his work ethic, his ability to lead, and his unwavering commitment to the task at hand.

Family was the cornerstone of Kenneth’s life, and the perfect example of that was his wife, Suzanne Perkins. He also leaves behind a loving brother, Jimmy Perkins and his wife Becky of Clyde, TX; his beloved sisters, Joy Ann Roach of Austin, TX, Patty Thayer of Peachtree City,
Georgia, and Nancy Little and her husband Keith of Anna, TX. His legacy is also carried on by
his cherished daughter Kimberly Rabon, her husband Todd, grandsons, Dalton and Dillon of
Fredericksburg, TX, and his stepson, Christopher Chandler, his wife Angel, grandson, Brandon of Shelton, WA. Kenneth’s life was enriched by the love and bonds he shared with his family, including his other “children”, Kevin Fluke and family of Phoenix, AZ, Justin Fluke and his family of Burleson, TX and finally, John Jones and his wife of Jenks, OK. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. His family will always hold his memory close to their hearts.

Kenneth’s zest for life was evident in his numerous outdoor pursuits. He relished the time spent fishing, hunting, camping and gardening, basking in the serenity and challenge of the natural world.A skilled marksman, Kenneth also enjoyed shooting sports and in his younger days, he enjoyed roping with friends, and was always up for a good time. Kenneth was blessed with amazing friendships throughout his life.

Those who knew Kenneth would agree that he embodied the words that he often repeated, “If it weren’t for the bad times how would you know it’s the good times?” Indeed, Kenneth loved a good time, but he also knew with a little hard work and the right attitude, bad times would pass. Tomorrow is what you make of it.

Kenneth was a man of profound faith, a guiding principle that saw him through times of trial and triumph. His intelligence was evident not only in his love for history but in the insightful conversations he shared with those around him. Creative in his problem-solving, he often found innovative solutions to the challenges he encountered, both in his professional and personal life.

As we bid farewell to Kenneth Wayne Perkins, we celebrate a life that was lived with purpose and passion. His story is one of resilience, service, and the pursuit of knowledge, set against a backdrop of the great outdoors he so loved. He will be remembered not only for the roles he played as a brother, father, husband, and friend but also for the indelible mark he left on the world around him.

Kenneth was proceeded in death by his parents, Howard and Joy Mae Perkins, his brother-in-law Dave Thayer and niece Courtney Bowie. Arrangements for a military burial and remembrance of life will be scheduled at a future date. He has left us with memories that will continue to guide and comfort us, just as the stars guide a ship at sea. Kenneth Wayne Perkins, a true original, will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
