Grant Reed, Jr.

09/06/2022 - 11:14 , by TKing09

“To everything there is a season...a time to be born and a time to die...” Ecclesiastes 3:1

What a wonderful day, December 14, 1937, in Temple, TX; Grant and Helena Malone Reed were blessed with their sixth son, Grant Reed, Jr. He was referred to as “Junior” by his family and friends.

At the age of 5, the family relocated to San Angelo, TX, where he attended San Angelo public schools, Blackshear High being the last one.

Junior was married to Willie Wilson; to this union one son and four daughters were born.

Later, he relocated to Cleveland, OH; from there to Denver, CO; years later, he returned home and married Mary Douglas. They had one son, James.

He attended St. Paul Baptist Church and was later baptized at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hoover Lemons. He served faithfully on the Usher Board, Food Committee and any place he was needed.

Being that Junior and Charles were the youngest two brothers, there were very close; as such, they ran a business, “Reed Brothers Detail” for four decades.

Gloria was his youngest sister; however, he confided in her and sometimes jokingly called her his “Mother.”

Junior gave up his determination to continue his fight on Charles' birthday, September 2nd at 9:11 a.m. His last days were all peaceful and calm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Emmett and LeRoy; two sisters, Ruby and Geraldine; a daughter, Jacqueline Reed and two sons Jimmie Reed and James Reed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Pearl James, Terrie Smart, Barbara Anthony, Shena Reed and Kyosha Reed; sons, David Wharton, Julius Reed and Jamil Lucas; thirty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; his brothers, Jimmie (Onetha) Reed and Charles (LaRue) Reed; his sisters, Alice Johns and Gloria R. DeWitt; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Grace Church in San Angelo with Pastor Jeremy Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book @www.harper-funeralhome.com.

Nancy Annette Crisp

09/06/2022 - 09:04 , by TKing09

Nancy Annette Crisp, 86, of San Angelo, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2022. Nancy will be missed, but we are rejoicing that she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and will no longer be suffering in pain. Nancy was born on March 3, 1936, in San Angelo, to Virgina Rooney Probst and James Moore. Nancy also had a beloved step-father Murry Probst. Nancy attended school in Mertzon as a young girl, attended High School in Menard, Texas and graduated from Lake View High School.

Nancy had a long banking career and retired from Central National Bank (CNB) as Assistant Vice President, which is now Wells Fargo. Following her retirement from CNB Nancy went on to work for her good friend and former boss of CNB Glen Kerby at Edward Jones. Nancy never met a stranger and loved people. Even when her body gave out and she was in pain she managed to go and visit new arrivals at Lyndale in her scooter chair to make them feel welcome to Lyndale. She never wanted anyone to feel out of place or alone. I guess you could say she had a big heart. She was most proud of being named an Ambassador at Lyndale after only living there three months.

Nancy married the love her life Travis Crisp on April 16, 1955, and they were married for 55 years at the time of his death on April 11, 2011. Nancy is preceded in death by her husband Travis, her mother Virginia Rooney Probst, her father James Moore, step-father Murry Probst, her sister Susan Probst, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carole and Gerald Crisp and mother-in-law and father-in-law Annie and Leonard Crisp.

She is survived by her daughter Reneé Butts and husband Ted; Grandson Trevor Butts and wife Jennifer; Grand-daughter Courtney Paiz and husband Justin; Great-Grandchildren Jaelyn and Blake Paiz and Nathanel Butts. She is also survived by niece Becky Buck and husband Fred; nephew Mark Crisp and wife Carrie.

Nancy leaves behind many special cousins Jim Turney, Ann Peeler, Camille Meadows, Kathy Mitchell, Jonnie Caldwell, Marilyn Alexander and a very good friend of the family Ginny Morgan and her numerous friends at Lyndale. Nancy also leaves her devoted caregiver/friend Mandy Sosa, along with all of Lyndale Senior Living staff who took excellent care of her and were like family to her. There are no words to describe how much Lyndale tenants and staff workers have meant to Nancy and Reneé.

She had extended family that checked on her regularly and considered her like a mother and they are Terry and Reneé Brown; Rusha and Chuck Moneke; and Jaci and Corey Wright.

A huge thank you to Shannon Hospital ER and 4-North and 4-South that took care of her every time she was admitted. To the great health care professionals that showed her great patience and compassion; Dr. Sarah Burkes, Dr. Herman Zarate, Rachel Reyes, MSN, APRN, Lisa Vannoy, APRN, MSN, FNP-C, Dr. Chris Haddad and Dr. Melissa Aleta.

The short time Nancy was in Hospice care, Concho Hearts Hospice assisted the family and helped Nancy and Reneé feel very at ease about what lay ahead and for that we thank them so very much for their empathy and Christian love to all of us.

Nancy will be available for viewing on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home all day for anyone that would like to go by and sign her book. A private family graveside service will be conducted by Nancy’s great-nephew Pastor Ryan Buck of Immanuel Baptist Church in Menard. She will be laid to rest next to her high school sweetheart.

Will J. Farris

09/06/2022 - 09:02 , by TKing09

Will J. Farris, 86, of San Angelo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Although we will dearly miss him, we are rejoicing that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born September 22, 1935, the oldest son of W. J. (Jay) and Ruby D. Farris. He was a cherished husband, beloved father, and a proud Papa and Great-Papa. He was also known as “Uncle Will”, “Will J.’, and a faithful friend to many. Will knew Christ as his personal Savior, and he served the Lord by living his life in a way that reflected Christ. He was a member of the Emmaus Community and had the privilege of being baptized in the Jordan River during a trip of a lifetime to Israel. He was an ordained deacon and a member of Southland Baptist Church.

Will J. was born in Miles, TX and grew up in Knickerbocker and Tankersley, TX. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1954. While in high school, he enjoyed playing baseball and later continued to play in church leagues. He also loved the game of golf and taught himself to play by researching library books. He could figure out how to do most anything. He was musically incline and in his early years, played the guitar and fiddle.

Will graduated from North Texas State University in 1959 with a degree in Education. While attending college in Denton, he met the love of his life, Annetta Farmer on a blind date. In the spring of 1959, they married and shared 63 wonderful years together. He was devoted to his family and was proud of each one.

His teaching career began in Hurst-Euless, TX in 1959. In the summer of 1960, Will and Annetta moved to San Angelo where he taught wood shop at Lee Jr. High for 9 years. While at Lee, he was honored to be awarded Teacher of the Year. His teaching time was interrupted when he was called to active duty with the National Guard and served our country during the uneasy time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He continued his career at Central High School teaching architectural drafting, retiring after 36 years. Along with his teaching career, he became an Insurance Agent with Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual and eventually built his own business, Farris Insurance Agency. He worked as an agent until the age of 83. Whether in the classroom with students or in the homes of insurance customers, he touched many lives in a positive way. His former students have often shared how he taught them life lessons of discipline and hard work mixed with a little laughter. He was known to tell a joke or two with his blue eyes twinkling. He was someone you could trust and worked with honesty and integrity.

Will (Daddy) had a passion for wood working and enjoyed spending hours in his shop. His keen eye for detail was evident in the precision of his work. He often chose oak, cedar or mesquite wood with a specific project in mind. He intentionally polished each to perfection bringing out the natural beauty he could envision from the start. He built our house and with Mom at his side, made it our family home.

We will always treasure the many beautiful things he made for us with his own hands. The gifts he gave us from his heart will remain with us always until we see him again some glorious day. Three things will last forever: faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

Will is preceded in death by his parents, W.J. (Jay) and Ruby D. Farris, brother, Charles Russell Farris, identical twin sons, Charles Wayne and Earl Dwayne Farris and brother-in-law, Jim King.

Those left to treasure his memory are his cherished wife Annetta, daughters, Cindy Tschudi and husband Marc, Diann Farris, Becky Hill and husband, Craig; grandsons, Jacob Daughtry and wife, Kaylee, Matt Addison, and Chase Hill and wife Kelli; great-grandsons, Carson Daughtry and Wyatt Hill; sister, Mayrene King and niece Laurie Sanders. 09/01/2022 - 18:51 , by TKing09

Naomi Eba Fout went home to glory August 29, 2022 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ernie Fout in 2005.

Naomi was born on August 8, 1928 in Baltimore, MD to Harry and Bessie Eba, the 5th of 6 children. Her father was an itinerant preacher who traveled the country painting signs to support his family. Naomi started school as a child in Lordsburg, New Mexico, and ultimately graduated high school in Portsmouth, Ohio. After high school she made a living by working along side her sister Esther in a shoe factory in Portsmouth. Along with her family, she attended the United Pentecostal Church, where she met Ernie Fout.

Ernie and Naomi married on September 14, 1953. They had 5 children: Mark, John, Dale, Ruth and Kathy. She was the loving grandmother of 6, and doting great-grandmother of 16 children. Along with raising her children Naomi also managed stores for 16 Food Corral Co. in El Paso, TX.

Naomi deeply loved the Lord, and was a faithful churchgoer, playing the piano and organ on Sunday mornings in church when she lived in El Paso.

After they moved to San Angelo, she volunteered as a greeter in church at The Life Church, a task she dearly loved.

As her health declined in the last years, Naomi was surrounded by 3 generations of family who cared for her in every way possible, bringing her joy, laughter, her favorite treats and the very best medical care. We will miss her sense of humor, her joy, her stories, and most of all, her sweet smile.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the 5th floor nursing staff at Shannon Medical Center, the staff of Solaris Hospice, with loving gratitude to her nurse Lindsey and her aide Rebecca.

A visitation will be held for Naomi on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM.
