McKinney Corinne

02/28/2014 - 13:45 , by johnb

Corinne Simpson McKinney, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday February 27, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Viewing will be 10:00am to 8:00pm Friday February 28, 2014 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be 10:00am to 12:00 noon Saturday March 1, 2014 at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 1:00pm Saturday March 1, 2014 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ben Hubert, of First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Corinne was born November 22, 1926 in Waco, Texas to Everett Park Simpson and Phebe Lawson (Boss) Simpson. Corinne was a descendant of John and Prisilla Alden, who came over on the Mayflower.

Corinne attended Angelo State University. She received her Associates in Arts in 1964, Bachelor of Science in 1967, Provisional Vocational in 1969 and her Masters of Education in 1977. She was a member of the Angelo State University Honors Society and graduated in the first four year graduation class at ASU. She received numerous awards, both personal and professional from her students, and her peers in education. She had a lifetime membership certificate from the National Education Association of the United States.

She worked for the civil service in the United States Army at Blackland Army Airfield and Goodfellow Air Field. Corinne retired from the San Angelo Independent School district after working for over 22 years.

Sewing was her passion, and it showed throughout her home and wardrobe. She felt so much joy when she would run into previous students who would thank her profusely for teaching them how to sew and would tell her how much the skills she taught had helped them with their daily lives.
She loved her church, teaching, sewing and square dancing. She devoted so much of her time to her family and friends, loving each of them unconditionally. Corinne adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She left a lasting impression on every person she met, and will be missed dearly.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Walt Carroll, Raul Ybarra, Dr. C. J. Buckley, Alan Gore, Richard McKinney and Dave Gossett.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer V. McKinney, son; Randall E. McKinney, two brothers; Jack Simpson and Everett Park “Buddy” Simpson and a sister; Gerry Stone.

Survivors include her son; Richard A. McKinney, daughter; Rhonda Carroll and husband, Dr. Walt Carroll, all of San Angelo, Granddaughters; Christie Gore and husband, Alan of Plano, Lindi Buscetta of Dallas, Stephanie Ybarra and husband, Raul of Round Rock and Dr. Brandy Buckley and husband, Dr. C. J. Buckley of Temple, great grandchildren; Randy Gore, Kylie Gore, McKenzie Gore, Addysen Ybarra, Stephen Ybarra, Samuel Buscetta and Baby Girl Buckley, due in March.

A special thank you goes out to Odyssey Hospice and to the Royal Estates staff and residents whom made her last three years so much more enjoyable.

Memorial donations may be given to Odyssey Hospice or to First Christian Church of San Angelo.
