Dorothy Holler

01/16/2016 - 18:47 , by johnb

Dorothy Pauline Holler of Sterling City passed into the arms of our heavenly father in the early morning hours of January 15, 2016 at San Angelo Community Medical Center. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 3 pm until 5 at The First Baptist Church of Sterling City. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church at 2 pm on Monday, January 18, 2016 with graveside and burial following at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way with Max Gunn officiating.
Dorothy, or “Granny” as she was affectionately known by literally everyone, was born on January 27, 1927 in Howard County at her parent’s home. In attendance to her birth was her future husband, Roy, who was only six months old, his mother serving as midwife and was noted as saying, “Lookie here, Jake, I got me a daughter-in-law!”
Granny married Roy Holler on November 15, 1942 and began a fulfilling career as a wife and mother and eventual grandmother.
Among her favorite pastimes were fishing, garage sales, bingo, and Las Vegas and although it wasn’t her favorite pastime, she was an amazing cook and she was well-known for feeding her famous beans to anyone who walked into her home.
Granny was a notorious spoiler of children and a justice warrior for those she believed that were mistreated for, as anyone soon discovered, you did not mess with her grandkids. Ever.
In closing, Granny was a kind and ornery woman with a big heart and an unfailing love for her family. She had a smile that lit up the room and a twinkle in her eye that brightened the world. When she laughed, she didn’t just laugh, she let loose a riotous belly laugh that shook the rafters and chased the blues away. She was a nurturer, an encourager, a travel buddy, a confidant, and a special one-of-a-kind woman who will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She leaves behind daughter, Margaret Ann Millard of Sterling City and son-in-law, Mike; her son, Charles “Buzz” Holler of Water Valley and her daughter-in-law, Linda; and daughter, Paula Kay Gaston of Sterling City and her son-in-law, David; in addition to her beloved grandchildren, Debbie, Chris, Camie, Billy, Jason, Chuck, Charlette, Cathy, Melody, Jana, Justin, Barbie, and Kisha, thirty-four great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Sonny” Holler; her parents, Jake and Cora Joiner; stepmother Hazel Joiner; sister, Jean Joiner; her daughter, Linda Jean Williams; her son-in-law, Pat; and her grandchild, Melinda Holler.
Her family thanks the nurses, doctors, and caregivers at Sterling City Nursing Home and San Angelo Community Medical Center for their wonderful care during her final days.
