Esther Maxine Brown

Esther Maxine Brown, 82, of San Angelo, Texas who passed away from this life on Sunday, April 17, 2016.
Maxine was born march 19, 1934 in Jones County, Texas to Isaiah Eddie Smith and Esther Dye Smith. She grew up between Aspermont and Hamlin, Texas on the family farm and was the youngest of four children. She was a graduate of Hamlin High School. She went on to graduate from Hendricks School of Nursing in Abilene, Texas in 1954 where she earned a degree as a Registered Nurse and proudly pursued a nursing career for many years. She married the love of her life, Eldon Brown, November 7, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Maxine enjoyed being with her family, taking care of her pets, and all of her plants. She had a great sense of humor and was always there to help when there was a need. Maxine was a proud and loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She loved her family whom she devoted her life to. Maxine was the type of person who never met a stranger and anyone that met her would have a friend forever.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Gale Hethcoat and husband George of Kansas; three sons and their spouses: Tommy and Sherry Hall of San Angelo, Joel and Kristi Hall of Springtown, Texas and Ray and Sheri Brown of San Anelo; grandchildren: Brian and Aly Hethcoat, Eric Hethcoat, Jamie Hall, Joshua Hall, Keely Davis, Hartley Hall, Bryce Hall, Garrett Brown, Jordan Siragusa, Courtney Patterson, and Brittney Bruno; and 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way. 
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one grandchild, Kara Faith Brown.
Family visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20th at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 21st with Jim Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. 
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Meals for the Elderly.

Norma Jean Sproul Hunnicutt

Norma Jean Sproul Hunnicutt was born in Irion County in 1926 to Robert Sproul and Ray O. Farrington Sproul. Early in life she moved with her family to Eldorado in Schleicher County where she attended the schools in Eldorado. She attended Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine. Jean's career in banking extended from banks in Eldorado to Sweetwater and Snyder before moving to San Angelo. She completed a thirty-four year tenure in the San Angelo National Bank, later purchased by Texas Commerce Bank, Houston. She took many American Institute of Banking Courses and completed a three year course in the School of Bank Administration at Wisconsin University in Madison, WI. During her tenure in banking, she served as Vice President and in many other pivotal roles in bank operations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Her spirit of kindness and generosity made an indelible mark that will be remembered by both family and friends. She is preceded in death by C. Preston Hunnicutt, her husband of 57 years, her parents, one brother, Robert Sproul Jr. of Springfield, VA., and several nephews, Paul Guthrie of Kemah, TX. and Scott Guthrie of San Antonio. Jean is survived by her daughter, Jan Varner and her husband James W. Varner of Andrews, grandsons Brook Varner of Andrews and Robert Luke Varner of Fort Worth, TX. Also surviving are two sisters; Bette J. Allen of San Antonio and Mary Sessums of San Angelo, TX., one brother, C.R. Sproul and wife, Deene Sproul of Eldorado, TX. and many nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Dr. James Hassell officiating. Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. To honor her in another way please send donations to the charity of your choice or Hospice of San Angelo. A special thanks to the staff of New Haven and Hospice of San Angelo.

Macario Perez Oropeza

Mr. Macario Perez Orpeza, 60, of Big Lake Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2016. He was born on February 9, 1956 to the late Clestino Oropeza and the late Cruz Prez. He was married to Juanita Oropeza on October 26, 1979. A Family oriented man, Macario loved to garden, play with his grandchildren, listen to a good tune, dance, and would offer a willing and helping hand to anyone around. A man full of life and zest, Macario would often cruise around the community in his big truck speaking to everyone he passed. Macario worked many years on a pulling unit in the oil field, until his health began to fail him. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Juanita. A son, Macario Jr. (Melva) Oropeza. 4 daughters; Oliva Reyes( Armondo Jr.) Anaeca (Nina) Oropeza, Maria (Leeann) Salcido, Karissa(Jose Jr. Cervantes. 10 grandchildren; Macario III,Nayelli, Madison, Khloe, Arianna, Jayselyn, Gavin, Kayden, Aubreigh, and Isaiah all of Big Lake, Texas. Four sisters; Romelia (Marcelino) Ocha, Elisa(Jamie)Rios, Enedina (Juan) Murillo, Maricella Oropeza all of Mexico. He is preceded in death by his brother Mr. Uvalido Oropeza, and a sister, Icendra Oropeza. Visitation and Wake services will be Tuesday, April, 19,2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home, a second wake and visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Apostolic Assembly, 200 S. Main Avenue, Big Lake Texas. Funeral arrangements will be held at 1:00 P.M., April 20, 2016 at, Apostolic Assembly, 200 S. Main Avenue, Big Lake, Texas. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery.

Lula Dunderdale Rogers

Lula D. Rogers passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the age of 86. Lula Jane was born to parents John Robert and Lillian Mabel Dunderdale on June 24, 1929 in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of 8 children and attended Galena Park High School in Houston. Lula received her degree in Education from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She moved to San Angelo in 1971 where she taught Special Education until her retirement. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes and sang with the Melody Makers. Her parents and seven siblings preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children, John Wolfe and wife, Joy, Brian Glen Wolfe and wife, Cathy, Cindy Baker and husband, Devery, Sandra Rosser and husband, Lynn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. At Lula's request a private family memorial service will be held at a later date

Amparo Alcala

Amparo Alcala, 65, was called home to be with her heavenly father on April 12, 2016 in La Vernia, Texas. Amparo was born on October 17, 1950 to Anselmo and Josephina Holguin in San Angelo. Amparo's greatest joy was her family. Her home, especially her kitchen, was her sanctuary. She would feed the world if she could. She nurtured all those around her, especially her pets who, waited religiously every morning for their breakfast egg. She also enjoyed the outdoors, working in the yard and tending to her plants. Amparo retired from Ethicon, as project manager, where her responsibilities took her to Puerto Rico, Juarez, and brief assignments in Scotland and France. She married Dick Alcala on May 17, 1969 and from that lasting, loving union two children were born.

Amparo is survived by her husband Dick Alcala, son, Sergio Alcala and wife Yesenia Alcala, daughter, Natalia Alcala, grandchildren Audaz David Alcala, Cristian Alcala, Selena Amparo Alcala and great-grandchild Cayson Jude Cockerham.

Amparo was preceded in death by her parents and sister Alejandra (Honey) Alvarez. She is survived by brothers, Abel Holguin and wife Albesa Holguin, Anselmo (Chico) Holguin, Jr., sisters Susie Soto and husband Simon Soto, Ana Rodriquez and husband Joe Rodriquez, Angie Menchaca and husband Reyes Menchaca, Adela Ortiz and husband Jimmy Ortiz, Aida Lombrana and husband Bobby Lombrana, and Arlene Garcia and husband Bob Garcia.

She is also survived by her mother in law, Olga Alcala, father-in-law, Augustine Alcala and wife Audelia Alcala, brothers-in-law Tommy Alcala and wife Deborah Alcala, August Alcala Jr. and wife Sandy Alcala, sisters-in-law Cindy Rodriquez, Laura Lee and husband Jim Lee and Donna Chevannes. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law Carol Samaniego.

Also surviving her are numerous adoring nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home chapel, San Angelo, Texas. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Angelo, Texas. Inurnment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to a favorite cancer charity or animal rescue organization. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Susan Lynn Hudson

Susan Lynn Hudson, 57, passed away in her home in San Angelo on Friday, April 15, 2016. She was born to Bert Wilson and Doris Evelyn Sanders Hudson on August 31, 1958 at the Travis AFB in Fairfield, California. She worked as a Registered Nurse for a number of years, mainly in hospital settings. She was of the Baptist faith. Susan was a private lady, who adored her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She will be missed greatly by those who knew her. Survivors include her parents, Bert and Doris Hudson; siblings and their spouses, David and Madylon Hudson, Tom and Kathy Hudson, Scott and Michel Hudson, Sandra Kottman, and Pamala and Neil Gessling; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, April 18, 2016 in the Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Fr. Stan Burdock officiating.

Paul Alan Nelson

Paul Alan Nelson, 51, of San Angelo, died at his home on Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was born to Gordon Ellis and Isabelle Catherine "Kate" Van Wingen Nelson on September 1, 1964 in Tripoli, Lybia. Paul began his life abroad the minute he was born and continued to experience a lifetime of traveling and different cultures into adulthood. He spent several years most recently in Korea, where he taught students the English language. He was working on his doctorate at the time of his death. It has been said that Paul never met a stranger. It never failed, that no matter where he went, he knew someone or made a new friend. One of his greatest joys was searching out and collecting The Beetles memorabilia. His collection leaves one in awe. Paul's life was full and he will be missed greatly. Paul is preceded in death by his brother, John Mark Nelson. 
Survivors include his parents, Gordon and Kate Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Michele Nelson; nieces, Emily, Melanie and Becky; as well as a host of other relatives and friends, including his cat, DJ. 
A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A graveside celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.
