Martin Arthur Johnson

06/09/2025 - 07:27 , by TKing09

Monday morning, June 2, 2025, Martin Arthur Johnson departed this world for his forever home. Martin was born to Kennard and Louise Johnson in Sioux City, Iowa on July 15, 1946. With his dad being in the military, they moved around the country wherever they were needed. In 1959, the family settled in Roswell, New Mexico. Before Martin graduated high school in 1965, he met the love of his life, Susan Willingham. After high school, Martin moved to Plainview, Texas for school to become a court reporter. He graduated from the Business College of the Southwest as the fastest stenographer in his class typing on average 200 to 250 words per minute. While in school, Martin married the love of his life, Susan Willingham and moved her to San Antonio as soon as he graduated. His first job was as a freelance stenographer for the City of San Antonio. They then moved to Beeville, Texas where Martin worked for Judge Joe Wade in Bee County, Aransas County and San Patricio County. Martin and Susan had two boys while in Beeville. Then in 1978, an opportunity to work for Judge Steib, opened in San Angelo, Texas. Martin stayed with Tom Green County until Judge Steib retired. He and Susan then started Angelo Reporting, a private stenographer business. After selling Angelo Reporting, Martin continued working for Tom Green County serving with Judge Sutton and then Judge Woodward until his retirement in 2010.

After retiring from the county, Martin and Susan began to travel. Cruising was a favorite pastime as was traveling all over the United States to watch their grandchildren play and coach, volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball, football and run cross country. Martin could be found sitting front row at all his grandkids’ sporting events and cheering them and their teammates on. Martin also enjoyed time spent at the coast. We are not sure if it was his love of fishing or eating fresh shrimp that drew him to the coast, but his love of the area was passed down to his kids and grandkids.

Martin loved teaching his grandkids, especially about animals. It didn’t matter if was horses, cows, goats, dogs, rabbits, fish or birds. He loved them all. Any animal lucky to find itself at the Johnson house was a blessed animal indeed. Martin also had a passion for early 70’s style pickups (which he had dreams of restoring one day) and Harley Davidson motorcycles. This fascination started in his teen years while spending time working in his Dad’s Harley Davidson shop in Roswell, New Mexico. Martin always had the coolest car or bike around and could fix just about anything on his hotrods and motorcycles.

Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Kennard and Louise Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Susan, their two boys, Rick (Stacy) Johnson and Kenneth (Chris) Johnson, his grandchildren, Jami Dale, Kodie Johnson, Corie Swagger, Blake Johnson, Rylie Clements and Kyle Johnson and great grandchildren James Stanley, Abbi Dale, Bennett Dale and Ophelia Johnson. He is also survived by his sister Margaret (Dale) Turner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cornerstone Christian School of San Angelo, Athletic Department, 1502 N. Jefferson St, San Angelo, TX 76901. A family graveside service will be held in Roswell, New Mexico at a later date.

Barbara Ann Strain

06/03/2025 - 12:09 , by TKing09

Barbara Ann Strain, of San Angelo, passed away surrounded by family on May 31, 2025 at the age of 77. She was born on December 27, 1947 in Colorado City Texas to parents Curtis and Artie (Hartsfield) Dossey.

She was an only child and lived in Corpus Christi before moving to San Angelo at the age of 12. She met Alfred Strain when she was 14 and they were married three years later. She graduated from Central High School in the summer of 1965 after doubling up her junior and senior year so she could marry the love of her life.

She had her first child, Michael Strain, in 1968. Shortly after, she started her business by buying out all of the wigs from JCPenney during a closeout sale. That grew into Barbara’s Mad Rags, Wigs and Bags. She sold her business in 1973 after her second child, Missie Strain Jost, was born. She bought it back two years later. Around 1980, she opened her second store, Pick and Save, a mother daughter matching clothing boutique. Her third store, Sassy Fox, opened in 1983. She closed Pick and Save in 1984 and by the late 80s Barbara had closed the Sherwood Way location to focus on the best customer service possible with just one store. Sassy Fox moved to its present location on Concho Avenue in 1996.

Barbara had too many talents to list, but many remember the years that she made earrings to match every outfit in Sassy Fox. She designed one of a kind jewelry and clothes for decades. Her pride in her work was evident in the countless features in magazines and the many outstanding business women awards that she won over the years. She truly loved being in Sassy Fox, working with our great team and visiting with countless customers that had also become very good friends. Even in the hospital, she was enjoying working with her daughter on a clothing order just days before she went to heaven.

She is survived by Alfred Strain, her loving husband of almost 60 years and their two children and six grandchildren. Their son, Michael Strain, and his wife, Michelle, O’Brien Strain and their children Morgan, Meadow and Miley Strain. Their daughter, Missie Strain Jost, and her husband Jeffrey Jost and their children Taylor, Jake and Justin Jost.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:30 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Harper Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 6, 2025 at The Life Church with Pastor Walt Landers officiating. The burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Jose E. Dominguez

06/02/2025 - 08:16 , by TKing09

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Jose Eliazar Domínguez de Luna, “Pacho", passed away peacefully in his humble home on May 29, 2025, just five days before his 67th birthday, after declining in health following the necessary amputation of his foot.

Jose was a man of unwavering faith, a dedicated husband to Cruz Irma Herrera for 35 years, and a loving father to his children. His strength and determination to keep moving forward in life will always be a part of his legacy.

In 1996, Jose Eliazar and Cruz Irma moved to the USA from Mexico and established a forever home in Sonora for their children, where he instilled the importance of hard work, education, honesty, and kindness.

Jose was known for his ability to create friendships. He could start up a conversation with anyone anywhere despite language barriers; he knew no stranger. He was a lifelong learner; he prioritized education and despite not having the financial opportunity to further his own education past sixth grade in Mexico, he worked hard to earn his GED as an adult here in the USA while working for the City of Sonora in public works. He took pride in his daughters and son graduating from SHS and always encouraged his grandchildren to do well in school; he was a Bronco fan! He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the simple and important things in life.

Jose is survived by his four children--Karla Patricia, Edna Rubi, Josue Elias, and Yailin Isamara; five grandchildren--Carolina Guadalupe, Edgar Elias, Victor Eliazar, Aleyna Marie, and Adrian Guillermo; and nine siblings--Paulina Sandate, Jesus Dominguez, Desiderio Dominguez, Ana Lilia Rocha, Bertha Rosa Gonzalez, Alma Gomez, Raul Dominguez, Juanita Valderrama, and Magdalena Hernández,

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Elias Dominguez Muñoz and Bertha de Luna Lozoya, his wife Cruz Irma Herrera Mendez, and his brother Alberto Dominguez de Luna. Visitation will be held at Love Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 9 am-9 pm and Sunday June 8, 2025, from 9 am-1:45 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm at the Sonora Cemetery Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers should you feel so inclined, you are welcome to make a contribution to Sonora ISD for graduating Broncos and their futures or to Hospice of San Angelo, whose incredible staff consistently went above and beyond to make sure his final days and weeks were peaceful in his own home.
