Joseph Clyde "Froggy" Barnes, Jr.

01/26/2026 - 07:36 , by TKing09

Heaven got a little “western” Tuesday, January 20th, as Joseph Clyde “Froggy” Barnes made his way through the pearly gates at the ripe old age of 85. He peacefully took his last breath with his wife Janie and daughter Tracy by his side. His valiant battle with cancer is finally over, and pain no longer a constant companion.

Born November 13, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, Froggy was the beloved son of Joseph Clyde Barnes, Sr. (better known as Red Brown) and Anna Lee Jarratt Barnes. Thanks to his musician-entertainer parents, Froggy grew up on the road, meeting legends like Tex Ritter and briefly serving as the youngest band leader for the Texas Playboys when Bob Wills held him as a toddler and handed him his bow.

The family eventually settled in El Paso, where Froggy helped launch live television in the early 1950s, became a local name, and later made his mark as a standout football player at Austin High School (Class of ’58) and Texas Western College (now UTEP).

Froggy’s life took a providential turn into education, where he spent decades shaping young lives across Texas and New Mexico. At Gadsden High School, he started New Mexico’s first high-school Sports Medicine program. Known for his expertise in sports injuries, rehab, and prevention—and his willingness to help anyone from farmers to rodeo athletes—he was equally loved for his affable banter, straight talk, and genuine care for people.

He met his future bride in the fifth grade at Rusk Elementary. That shy classmate from square dance club became his permanent dance partner for more than 61 years, as they kept time through life’s ups and downs with faith and humor.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Janie of San Angelo; children Jim of Pflugerville, Tracy (Todd) Cauthorn, and Joey all of San Angelo; grandson Tyler Gidney of Fort Worth; and a large, lively circle of “adopted” kin including Dee Brennand, Betty Tyree, Tony & Julie Johnson (godson Dylan [Andie and Bode] and Ethan), Andy & Jeanne Rogers (Cole, Polly Matthews [Jake, Rhynlee, and James Cole]), Cory & Leslie Gardner (Morgan, Fallon, Tyley and Westyn).

Froggy lived his life with uncompromising integrity, grounded in faith in Jesus, with deep love for family and friends, and an unshakable belief that laughter is one of God’s best gifts. While we celebrate that he’s healed and whole in Heaven, we’ll do our best to carry on his legacy here —until we meet again, our precious husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A final farewell to Froggy will be held at 10:30 am on January 31st at Grape Creek Baptist Church, with fellowship luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Cowboys for Cancer Research (PO Box 202, Dona Ana, NM 88032) or Grape Creek Baptist Church (9781 North Grape Creek Road, San Angelo, TX, 76901).

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Vesta Joyce Ferrell Toney

01/23/2026 - 08:21 , by TKing09
Vesta Joyce Ferrell Toney passed peacefully into the waiting arms of Jesus on January 14, 2026.

Vesta was born in Stamford, Texas on September 20, 1928 to Rafe Teague Ferrell and Sarah Jenkins Ferrell. She was the youngest of 7 born in this family. Vesta married O.D. Toney on May 30, 1947 and they had two children, Michael Wayne Toney and Margie Nell Toney Laughlin. Vesta and O.D. were married for over 63 years when he passed away in 2010. Vesta is survived by her daughter, Margie of San Angelo, two grandsons, Chris Trevathan and Ryan Trevathan, both of San Angelo, and several nieces and nephews along with their families.

Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael in 1978, five sisters Mildred Harshberger, Velma Sims, Ava Hardin, Vera Vineta Stremmel, Lavern Hill, and one brother Royce Ferrell.

Vesta and her family lived in Los Angeles for 13 years where she proudly claims to have taught herself to drive on the freeways there. The Toneys then moved back to Texas where they lived over 50 years in San Angelo. Vesta was a member of the Church of Christ and worshipped at the Chadbourne North congregation at the time of her passing.

Vesta was a respected and loved resident at Rio Concho Manor for over 10 years. Vesta was a volunteer for Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo and was employed for over 20 years at Ethicon as a supervisor in the Quality Assurance department where she made many lifelong friends.

Vesta lived out her faith in many ways and was a wonderful example of God’s grace and mercy to her family and many others in San Angelo. Being the last living sibling in her family, she was a “second mom” to many of her nieces and nephews and others in the family. She often said she prayed for each of her family members every day, and her words of wisdom and encouragement were so treasured. One of her favorite times was when many of her family would worship together with her. Those sitting next to her would feel her gentle hands reach out and hold their hands during prayers.

While living in California, her sister LaVerne and family lived nearby leading to a special closeness between those two families. But, knowing Vesta, she showed no partiality and loved all her family. Vesta’s closeness to her brother, Royce, was so apparent as she cared for him in many ways as his health began to fail. Vesta loved to travel and made several lengthy road trips with her oldest sister, Mildred. Their special bond started when Mildred helped care for Vesta as an infant. Vesta and O.D. raised several farm animals while living on the edge of San Angelo leading Vesta to become an efficient goat milker and advocate of drinking goat milk. She and Hondo, the donkey, had several interesting days together on the “farm”. Vesta loved her Volkswagons and her dogs!

Vesta will be missed so much, as will her kind and encouraging words. Her guidance and advice helped many of her family through difficult times. Her love for Jesus Christ was so apparent and she lived a full life. Vesta now has a face to put with a holy and beloved name.

II Timothy 4:7-8 describes Vesta’s journey so well

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Donations in memory of Vesta can be made to Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte, San Angelo, TX 76903

Don't grieve for me for now I'm free,

I'm following the path God laid for me

I took his hand when I heard him call,

I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I've found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life's been full, I've savored much,

Good friends, good times, my loved one's touch

If my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.

Sammy Farmer

01/23/2026 - 08:08 , by TKing09

Sammy Farmer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, was born on December 10, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas, to Sam and Daisy Farmer. He went home to be with Jesus on January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Sammy’s life was first and foremost rooted in his love for Jesus Christ. His faith was not merely spoken, it was lived out daily through selfless service, humility, and genuine love for others. As a devoted Deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church, Sammy led quietly but faithfully, pointing others to Christ through both his actions and his words. He believed deeply in the power of daily prayer, the importance of strong community, and the calling to love people well and unconditionally. His faith shaped every role he held as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and servant-hearted leader, and it remains one of the greatest legacies he leaves behind.

If you were Sammy’s friend, you were family from the moment you met him. He had a rare gift for giving of himself freely, always making others feel seen, valued, welcomed, and deeply cared for. His greatest joy, however, was his own family, whom he loved fiercely and faithfully. Sammy was a legendary father, leaving behind a legacy that spans generations. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Jeana Farmer, whom he married on July 15, 1972. Their fifty-three-year marriage stood as a true testament to enduring love, commitment, and partnership.

A man of service and loyalty, Sammy dedicated 30 years to serving the business, customers, and community of M.L. Leddy’s, and served as a County Commissioner in Tom Green County since 2019. He also faithfully served on the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Committee for 48 years. In each role, his leadership reflected integrity, gratitude, and a deep desire to serve others while pointing his community toward Christ.

Sammy is survived by his loving wife, Jeana Farmer; his children, Tara Kelley and her husband Stephen Kelley, Bill Farmer, Tye Farmer and his wife Kelly Farmer; his ten grandchildren, Braden Williams and wife Karleigh Williams, Abbie Williams, Allie Lopez and her husband Nathaniel Lopez, Bryce Kelley and his wife Skylar Kelley, Bristi Kelley, Ty Casey, Colter Farmer, Jase Farmer, Skylar Farmer, and Slayton Farmer; and his great-grandchild, Kohen Lopez. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Darlene Farmer; brothers-in-law, Bill Donica; Walter Don Hensley and his wife Gaynelle Hensley; and his many nieces and nephews: Judie English, Darla Sanderson and her husband Michael Sanderson, Sharla Abbott and her husband Tom Abbott, Tasha Sullivan and her husband Greg Sullivan, Toby Donica and his wife Heather Donica, and Josh Donica. Also by special friends, Sterlin Gilbert, Cody Crill, Liz Treadwell, Deeann Franklin, and Beverly Allen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Daisy Farmer; his sister, Carlene English; his brother, Harold Farmer; his brother-in-law, Paul Ray English, and nephews, Paul Wayne English and Stephen English.

Honorary pallbearers include County Judge Lane Carter, fellow County Commissioners, the Deacons of Immanuel Baptist Church, and cherished friends who were always considered family: Gary Tucker, Steve Floyd, Mike Floyd, Bob Crill, Wilson Franklin, and Mark Dunlap.

Visitation will be held at the Immanuel Baptist Church Gymnasium on 90 East 14th Street, in San Angelo, Texas, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sammy’s honor to Immanuel Baptist Church or to support The American Liver Foundation. The family would also like to thank the amazing care givers at Concho Hearts Hospice, Dr. Randi Peterson, Dr. Levi Hubble, Dr. Rudy Haddad, Dr. Chris Haddad, & Dr. Victor Garcia Rodriguez for their gracious care in our hero’s last days. You are each Angels on Earth.

Sammy Farmer leaves behind a legacy not measured by years, titles, or accomplishments, but by the lives he touched, the family he built, and the love he gave so selflessly. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable ache, his presence will forever live on through shared stories, enduring values, and generations yet to come.

We rejoice knowing that today, Sammy is fully restored, reunited with loved ones who went before him, and hearing the words he lived his life for:

“He made a difference.”
