Scroggs Carolyn Faye

Carolyn Scroggs, 80, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at her home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Greenwood Memorial Park, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107, with Rev. Bill Bowers, retired Church of The Nazarene pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scroggs was born October 13, 1939, Hollis, Oklahoma. Carolyn married M. G. Scroggs on June 21, 1958, in Fort Worth. She has been a resident of San Angelo for 14 years. Carolyn worked for First Care Insurance for 10 years retiring in 2002. She was a Nazarene. Carolyn enjoyed collecting quilts.

Survivors include her husband, M. G. Scroggs of the home; two sons, Mark Gregory and wife Cristine of Canyon, and Mike D. Scroggs of San Angelo; two sisters, Paula Friend and husband Ben of Joshua, and June Brown of Bowie; her grandson, Austin Scroggs and wife Morgan of San Angelo; and two great granddaughters, Everlee and Landree both of San Angelo. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Sondra Clark.

Valliant Edward Devers

Edward Devers Valliant was born July 2,1932, to Clarence and Maureen Valliant in Sonora, Texas. He was the oldest of 3 children. After graduating from Sonora High School he attended Texas Tech University and graduated with an Agriculture degree in 1959. He worked in the Soil Conservation office for over 30 years and received the Distinguished service award of McCullough county 1973 to 1992. He retired to San Angelo with his wife Jo in 1992. Ed married Jo Fant August 5, 1957 at the First Christian Church in San Angelo. Ed and Jo were blessed with 2 children Susan Valliant of Arlington, Texas and Brian Valliant of San Angelo/Sonora, Texas. He was a veteran in the Korean War and and received the National Defense Service Medal before returning home to finish his degree. In October 1951 he became an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master for a number of years for the Boy Scouts in Concho Valley and was a role model for many boys. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brady for many years and served as Head Master in 1979. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for over 50 years and served a deacon for many years. Ed and Jo delivered Meals on Wheels for over 10 years in San Angelo. Ed loved God, family and friends, our country and cherished each day of life. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Maureen Valliant and his sister Marylin Griffith. He is survived by his wife Jo for 63 years, their 2 children, 3 grandchildren, Jason Valliant of Odessa, Texas, Malyn Valliant Wagner of Blanco, Texas and Meagan Talton of Dallas, Texas, 5 great grandchildren and brother Don Valliant of Bakersfield, California. Open visitation will be held from 9 AM to 7 PM on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Johnson's Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery on Monday, April 20, 2020. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Meals on Wheels in San Angelo, Texas, or a charity of your choice.

Parmer Engedi Wilson

Engedi Wilson Parmer left her earthly home to go to her heavenly home on April 16, 2020.

Engedi was born August 17, 1926 to W.F. (Jack) and Lydia Brown Wilson at Mereta, Texas. She spent her childhood years in Mereta with some of her best friends and close cousins. She graduated from Eola High School and San Angelo College. She married her best friend, Dewey Parmer, from the neighboring community of Veribest. There they lived on their farm for the next 63 years until his death in 2008.

In 1955 as the drought gripped the farming industry, Gedi and Dewey went to San Angelo seeking work to supplement the farm income. She worked in the Tom Green County Clerk’s office and Dewey worked for the ASCS office.

They had three children, Thiry, Patsy and Gary. The drought broke in 1958 and in 1961 they built a new home on the Victor Mika farm they had purchased.

Engedi was a member of the Veribest Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 40 years, served as church clerk, and WMU President. She was a member for Harris Avenue Baptist Church at her death. She loved her Lord and her church family. Her Christian principals were her standards for her life. She gave her heart and life to her Lord at the age of 13 at the old Tabernacle in Mereta.

She was a 60 year member of the Home Demonstration organization and served in County, District and State offices. She made many friends around the state. She served as Worthy Matron of OES in 1980-1981 with her brother, Bill Wilson, as her W.P. She served as assistant secretary for Judge Edd B. Keyes from 1974-1987.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Parmer, her parents and her brother, Milton (Bill) Wilson.

Survivors include daughter Thiry and husband George Neill of San Angelo, daughter Patsy and husband Gary Phinney of Veribest and son Gary and wife Connie Parmer of Veribest, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her sister Jackie Smith of Lubbock and sister-in-law Pat Wilson of San Angelo.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

A private family graveside service will be held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Joni Parmer Lancaster (Engedi's Niece) officiating.

Guadalupe "Lupe" Cortez, 76, passed Tuesday, April, 14, 2020, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will be from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM Thursday, April 16, 2020, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Due to the current health crisis in our community and the directives given by State and Local Governments, we must abide by the directive limiting gatherings to 10 people at a time. Private graveside services will be Friday at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Father Josh Gray, pastor at Sacred Heart Cathedral, officiating under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cortez was born June 24, 1943, in Brady. Lupe married Emilio Cortez on July 4, 1959, in Brady. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2004. Lupe worked for A-Plus Custodial Services at Goodfellow Air Base for 20 years retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Survivors include four daughters, Sylvia Diaz and husband Albert of San Antonio, Linda Tovar of San Angelo, Diane Herrera and husband Rick of Corpus Cristi, and Brenda Beaudry of San Angelo; two sons, Sammy Cortez of San Angelo, and Patrick Cortez and wife Victoria of Dallas; three sisters, Sara Cortez of San Antonio, Yolanda Richardson and husband Roger of Nordin, Oklahoma, and Alice Moreno of San Angelo; four brothers, Johnny Moreno and wife Janie of Dumas, Rudy Moreno and wife Elaine of Dallas, Joe Moreno and wife Lucero of Dallas, and Roy Moreno of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Quinn Dillon Robert

Dillon Robert Quinn, 26, of Austin, TX, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 13, 2020. He was born on March 29, 1994 in Wylie, TX to Keith & Heather. Dillon attended Coahoma High School and graduated in the class of 2012. He later went on to obtain a degree in Nutrion from Texas Tech. Dillon was a proud member of numerous clubs and organizations and had a passion for helping others. Dillon met no strangers. Dillon will always be remembered for his AMAZING hugs, huge laugh, caring heart, giving nature and love for everyone. He had the ability to make anyone’s bad day good. He was a horrible dancer (per his big sister). Dillon had the ability to laugh harder at his own jokes than those he was telling them to! And again the absolute best hugger!! He was preceded in death by Evelyn “Nana” Williams, Melvin “Granddad” Maddox, Robert “PaPa” Miskell, great-great aunt, Carol Sue Farris, uncle John Slaughter and his beloved dog Bentley. Dillon is survived by his mother, Heather and Bonus Dad, Jess Slaughter; dad, Keith Maddox; siblings, Brooke Hofacket (Ky), Devon Maddox (Zak), Morgan Slaughter (Lance) and Kelly Roberts (Russell); nieces and nephews, Kytier Lee Hofacket, Kitley Jayde Hofacket, Hailey Reanna Roberts, Preston Ray Roberts and Caroline Paige Roberts; aunt, Shelby Tapp (Jason); uncle, Scott Maddox (Angie); grandparents, Matt and Janeen “NeNe” Tapp, bonus grandmother Vianey “Mrs. V” Larraga; great grandparent, Barbara Miskell and numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends far and wide. Pallbearers will be Jess Slaughter, Keith Maddox, Ky Hofacket, Russell Roberts, Zachary Velez, Matt Tapp and Lance Turner. A public memorial service will be held at a later date due to COVID-19.
