Helen Kathleen Lamb

12/14/2020 - 12:13 , by TKing09

Helen Kathleen Lamb, 68, passed away on 11th December 2020 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. Kathleen, as she was known to her friends and family, lost her 5 ½ year battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in March of 2015 with stage 3B lung cancer and given a 1% chance of living 5 years. She was a fighter, never complained, and followed every treatment her doctors recommended. She loved life, loved her friends and family, and fought hard to beat the odds, which she did.

Kathleen was born 26 February 1952 in Chandler, Arizona to Lois Yvonne and George Murphy. She gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies at Southwest Texas State University in 1973.
While in school she fell in love and married Lonny Lamb on 20th May 1972. She loved teaching High School and taught many years in Austin, San Antonio, and New Summerfield, Texas. While living in Clearwater, Florida in the 1980s and 90s she started Written Advantage, a company which taught training aid and technical writing techniques, and in her spare time became the first female Commodore of the Clearwater Yacht Club which was founded in 1911. She enjoyed traveling, genealogy research, and getting together with her longtime friends from high school.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, her sister Marilyn Thrailkill (Dennis), her niece Melissa Miller (Ryne), her nephew Matthew Thrailkill and 2 great nephews. We will miss her with all our hearts.

There will be a graveside service at Mertzon Cemetery in Mertzon, Texas at 10:00 am on Friday, 18th of December. In lieu of flowers a contribution to Girl Scouts of the USA or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online
register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com.

A Christmas Horror Story

12/14/2020 - 11:53 , by Kendal Hemphill
OPINION — Whenever someone asks me what my favorite Christmas movie is, I usually say Die Hard, because it’s funny to watch the shapes their faces make while they try to decide whether Die Hard is actually a Christmas movie, or just a movie set at Christmas, in which Bruce Willis shoots a bunch of large Europeans with Augs and funny accents. For the record, Die Hard IS a Christmas movie, but it’s not really my favorite. That would be A Christmas Story.
