SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Cano’s Diamond Holiday Heroes Blood Drive officially kicked off Monday morning in front of Shannon Medical Center.

The blood drive is Santa certified and is sure to get donors off the naughty list just in time for Christmas.

"It is the holiday season and it's a wonderful time of the year," said Vitalant Director Linda Grace. "But this is the most difficult time of the year to make sure we have enough blood on the shelf to save the life of patients in our local hospitals."

Maintaining an adequate blood supply is vital for the community and can provide life-saving antibodies for patients battling COVID-19.

All donors are screened before they donate and donations may be tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Individuals who have tested positive for the coronavirus and have been symptom-free for 28 may donate convalescent plasma.

Donors who visit the Vitalant mobile blood bus located in the Shannon Medical Center parking lot will recieve multiple prizes and be entered in a special drawing.

Can's Diamonds has donated a beautiful 2-karat white gold ring valued at more than $500.

"We are grateful to our local businesses who support what we do and donate these wonderful things, but at the end of the day, it's all about saving lives. It's up to you to do that because only blood from volunteer donors can be transfused to patients in the hospital."

In addition to being entered in the drawing, donors will receive:

• a free turkey coupon valued up to $25 from HEB
• a free sandwich coupon from Chick-Fil-A
• a holiday t-shirt
• a choice of 2 movie passes or $10 Gift Shop Gift certificate or $10 Shamrock Gift Certificate

The mobile blood drive will take place in front of Shannon Medical Center from December 14-18.
