Douglas "Doug" Dwayne Jones

02/03/2024 - 09:12 , by TKing09

Douglas Dwayne Jones, 48, of San Angelo passed from this life into eternity on January 31, 2024.

Douglas was born on November 19, 1975, in Abilene, Texas to Lee Roy and Linda Jones, who preceded him in death.

As a young boy, he enjoyed fishing with his parents, playing football and baseball, along with camping. He grew up in Abilene, but moved to Colorado City for his high school years, graduating in 1994. He moved to San Angelo shortly after high school and started working in landscaping. He worked hard and became an amazing landscaper under Neal Aylor.

He met and fell in love with Christy the Summer of 2000 and they were soon married on September 1, 2001. After a wonderful honeymoon in Washington State, the couple lived in San Angelo and bought their first home together. They were blessed with five amazing children, Emily, Brett, Fletcher, Gavin and Holden. Psalms 127:3-4 says, children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. If you knew Doug, you knew about his family, he was very proud of each one of them. He was the best husband and dad to his little tribe.

In March 2017, his dream of running his own company came true when he started Jones Southern Scapes, LLC with his wife. When Doug took care of your lawn, you weren’t just a client, you became a friend and many are more like family. He taught his children the value of hard work and the value of a dollar as they worked Summers alongside him.

When he was not hard at work, he was being the best involved dad ever from coaching his children’s flag football and basketball teams to cheering them on in all their interests and accomplishments. He loved to go camping, fishing, hunting, grill, watching any sport, but football and baseball were his favorites. Always a true Cowboys fan. He loved to travel and especially just hanging out with his family playing games on family night. Phase 10 is a family favorite and would bring out his competitiveness. He was a godly man and led his family well, not just at home, but also being an active member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church where he had served in the children’s area as a Sunday School teacher. He was never too tired after working a long week to enjoy a date night with his bride. They celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary on September 1, 2023.

Left behind to treasure Doug’s memory are his wife, Christy and their precious children, Emily, Brett, Fletcher, Gavin and Holden. His brother, James Jones, nephews, Jessie (April) Jones and their boys, Logan and Liam, nephews, Isaac and Dawson Jones. Many special aunts, uncles, cousins, his mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law, along with many, many friends.

Doug will be greatly missed by his wife and children the most, but since he never met a stranger, he will always be missed and remembered for his laid back personality, contagious smile, and being a true friend.

Visitation will be from 5PM-7PM Sunday, February 4th at Johnson’s Funeral Home. His funeral service will be Monday, February 5th at 10AM at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with interment to follow at Lawnhaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Brett Jones, Scott Landreth, Jason Ussery, Scott Carter

Charles Kenneth Whitley

02/02/2024 - 11:02 , by TKing09

A lifelong educator, provider, and adventurer, Ken Whitley died peacefully on January 31st, 2024 at Shannon Hospital. Ken taught English for 35 years and had an extraordinary way with words. He also had the foresight to write his own obituary, and it follows:

"I, C. Kenneth Whitley was born in December of 1946 and was adopted at birth by Charles C. and Ethel O. Whitley of Llano, Texas. I attended and graduated from Llano High School, then moved to San Marcos, graduating from Southwest Texas State University in 1971. I taught in Houston for two years and Mertzon for three more. After those five great years, I was offered the job at Lake View High School in San Angelo, which would be my beloved home for 30 years, sharing a little time with Central High School . After retirement, I returned as an ELL tutor for the next twelve years. I cannot thank my students enough for making all of those years so exciting and so much fun.

"Having been married and divorced, I was lucky enough for a beautiful divorcee to move in next door in the late 80's. We dated for a couple of years, and I proposed while we were on vacation in Cabo San Lucas. We married in October of 1991.

"I had the good fortune to live an action-filled life outdoors, whether it was tuna fishing in Cabo, salmon fishing in Alaska, scuba diving in the Virgin Islands, partying with my wife and sons in Puerto Vallarta, or hunting with my friends in West Texas. My greatest joy was in sharing my adventures with those I loved.

"I've always said that I started out adulthood with a small family, and am now blessed with more family than I could have hoped for. I am preceded in death by my father, Charles, and my mother, Ethel, and will be survived by my wife, Donna and my stepsons Doug and John. I love them more than I can express, I'm also survived by my brother, Mickey, my sister-in-law Karen, my nephew, two nieces, several first cousins in Belton, and countless exchange students. I've loved each of them with all my heart, and he hoped that I did a good enough job letting them know that.

"There's no reason to hold a service in my honor. In lieu of a memorial or flowers, please donate to Meals for the Elderly or the Women's and Children's Shelter.

"I've lived a great life, and have lived it longer than I thought I would."

Ken will be severely missed by his loving and grateful family. In honor of his wishes, official memorial services will not be held, but his family encourages all who loved him to celebrate his life in a way of their choosing.

Morgan Chalmas Riley

02/01/2024 - 09:43 , by TKing09

Morgan C. Riley, “Mo”, of San Angelo, TX peacefully went to be with Jesus January 30, 2024 at the age of 89.

He was born in Artesia, NM on the joyful day of September 10, 1934 to Ruby Hattie Johnston Riley and Charles Phillip Riley, Sr. Morgan was the sixth of nine siblings who grew up on a farm in Lytle, TX. The many stories of his childhood including barn cats to playing in the fields, told of Morgan’s playful and adventurous spirit. He was always one to joke around and give his loved ones a good laugh.

Morgan’s greatest love in life was for his Lord and Savior, but when Barbara Jean Hardcastle entered his life she became the close second. Morgan and Barbara were married on July 25, 1955 in Palm Beach AFB, Florida. Together they created a legacy of love and marriage their children and grandchildren have been blessed to witness. After 68 years married, Morgan still called Barbara his “girlfriend” with the sweetest admiration.

In 1953, Morgan joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean and Cold Wars. As part of the Alaskan Air Command, he was stationed at Mt. Sparrevohn, a remote radar station then later at Palm Beach AFB. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1957 becoming a proud American Veteran.

Morgan had a love for learning, always proud of his high school alma mater, The Lytle Pirates, and upon his discharge from the Air Force he continued his education at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, TX. After “cramming four years of college into three”, he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Morgan briefly taught English to migrant students in South Texas. He then began a long career in the Texas University system as a book store manager at Southwest Texas State, Midwestern State, and in 1967, came to Angelo State University from which he retired in 1993. After his retirement, he worked along side his boss, wife Barbara, at Olio Inc., until their retirement in 2005, when they began building memories through world travel.

Because of his lifelong love of football, Morgan officiated games from junior high to college level for nearly 30 years and was selected to officiate the 1990 Texas High School All Star Football Game. He served in the roles of Secretary and President of the San Angelo SFOA.

Morgan’s greatest passions in life were his faith and family. As a member of Southland Baptist Church, he served many years as a Deacon and on numerous committees. Sharing his faith went beyond serving in his church. His gentle, patient, and loving character represented that of Jesus. He was devoted to daily Bible study, fellowship with others, and the teaching and mentoring of those who knew him.

In the legacy of their marriage, Morgan and Barbara were blessed with their children Mark (Cindy) Riley and Robin (Terry) Bahlman. Grandchildren, Cooper (Whitney) Riley, and Julie (Clint) Halfmann; Cody (Kenna) Bahlman, Katy (Ryan) Woodruff, and Ryan Bahlman, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, February 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Southland Baptist Church Multi-Purpose Center. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00pm at Southland Baptist Church followed by burial at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled through Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. TX.

In lieu of flowers & in the giving spirit of Morgan please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
