LUBBOCK, TX — Former San Angelo Police Chief Timothy R. Vasquez told the United States District of the Northern District of Texas on August 10 that he is appealing his conviction and sentence to the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Outside the federal courthouse in downtown San Angelo early Friday afternoon, a line of supporters and opponents alike grew to gain entry into the federal courtroom to witness the sentencing of a man who was the most well-known political figure in San Angelo for nearly two decades.
Humberto Carreon Acosta, 33, of Pharr, has been wanted since December 2020, when the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

"Law enforcement officers, particularly those in leadership positions, should be bastions of integrity. By accepting bribes, Mr. Vasquez defiled his badge," said U.S. Attorney Chad Meacham following the verdict.
