Eddie Mae Economidis

11/19/2024 - 09:03 , by TKing09

Eddie Mae Economidis, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born January 31, 1935, in San Angelo to Frank and Flossie (Schiller) Newman.

Eddie Mae grew up the youngest of 5 children. At an early age, her family’s home was washed away in the San Angelo flood of 1936. The Red Cross provided her family a piece of land on the northwest side of San Angelo – now the corner of North Garfield and North streets – and an old railroad caboose car. A house and a home was built on that piece of land around that old caboose (which served as the house’s kitchen). Little did anyone realize that her family – her parents, her own family, and all of her brothers’ and sisters’ families – would all grow up and live within a two-block radius of that piece of land for the next 86 years!

In 1954, Eddie Mae met, with the help of her sister-in-law, Lois Newman, the man who was to be the love of her life, Gregory Economidis, while she was working at a Safeway grocery store. After their marriage, they built a house, with the help of her father and other family members, on North Garfield, just a block away from where she grew up. They raised their family and lived in that house for 67 years of their 68 years of marriage.

Eddie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Frank Newman and Leroy Newman, sisters, Margaret O’Neal and Jean Russell, son-in-law Marvin Boyd, and husband, Gregory (in August of 2022).

She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Boyd of San Angelo, and son John Economidis and his wife Elaine of Flower Mound; Six grandchildren, who brought her great joy, Michael Economidis and his wife Christen of Lubbock, Texas; Melissa Nash and her husband Chad of North Richland Hills Texas; Thomas Economidis and his wife Kristen of Bealeton, Virginia; James Economidis and his wife Jordan of Northlake, Texas; John Mark Economidis and his wife Jessica of Trophy Club, Texas; and Matthew Boyd of Keller, Texas. She had 16 great grandchildren; Eden, Shiloh, Judah, and Simeon Economidis of Lubbock, Texas; Sophie, Eva, and Mia Economidis of Bealeton, Virginia; Lucy, Eleanor, Margaret, June, and Peter Economidis of Northlake, Texas; and Jack, Leo, Gabriel, and Lola Economidis of Trophy Club, Texas.

While Eddie Mae was known for her quiet nature and preference for the comfort of her home, she was a sweet and loyal friend to many, and her passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew her. Above all, Eddie Mae was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her family deeply and found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones.

Raised in the Christian faith, Eddie Mae's spiritual journey took a profound turn in March 1986 when she came to personally know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, a commitment that shaped the remainder of her life. Her faith was a quiet but unwavering source of strength and peace.

The Pallbearers will be Michael Economidis, Thomas Economidis, James Economidis, John Mark Economidis, Matthew Boyd, and David Antle. Honorary Pallbearer will be Melissa Nash.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff and the residents at Pinewood Hills Independent Retirement Living, as well as her caregivers, Crystal Bridges, Leah Frye, and Jackie Archer, for their compassionate and loving care. They also wish to thank the staff of Concho Hearts Hospice, especially Courtney Kennedy, Kodi Venable, and Misty Hodges, for their care, support, and kindness during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Thursday (November 21st) evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held the following morning (Friday, November 22nd) at 10 a.m. at Harper Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Fairmount Cemetery. Pastor Mark Dallalio, Northside Baptist Church, Carrollton, Texas, will officiate the service. Pastor Chris Sweet, Grace Temple Baptist Church, San Angelo, will deliver the Eulogy.

Arthur F. "Rod" Harris

11/19/2024 - 09:00 , by TKing09

Arthur F. "Rod" Harris was reunited with his wife Marilyn after he passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024 at a local hospital. He was 87.

Rod was born July 16, 1937 in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Arthur and Frances (Pearl) Harris. He was the oldest of six children.

After high school, Rod enlisted in the Air Force. He was given two options--a base in upstate New York or Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Rod said he'd had enough of New England winters, and he was a Texan the rest of his life.

Much to his regret, he scored high on a test for Morse code and that's how he was utilized in the military. He told stories of listening to the World Series on the radio with his fellow airmen, being stationed in Libya and spending time in Europe.

Rod was eventually transferred to Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, where he met the woman that would become his wife, Marilyn Schwartz, at a Valentine's Day party.

They were married for 63 years and had three children, Randy, Debbie and Mike.

Rod was also an important father figure to his grandchildren, always pointing them in the right direction with good advice, while setting an example of how to be a man of character.

Rod and Marilyn were lifetime members of Holy Angels Church.

He graduated from San Angelo College and Angelo State University with several degrees, including a Master's in Business Administration. Rod worked for many years at GTE before retiring in 1993.

Rod loved traveling with his wife, and they visited every state except Alaska, along with numerous countries. Their favorite destination was Las Vegas and he made his final trip there last May. He also loved to go back home every year to visit Rhode Island for family and food.

Rod enjoyed golfing and played until he was physically unable to play anymore. He proudly had three hole-in-ones during his life. Another one of his favorite pastimes was discussing why Democrats are so misguided.

After his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Rod soldiered on and took care of her while taking over organizing Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter events at their house. The upcoming holidays won't be the same without him.

Rod was kind and generous to his family, and he ensured every one of his great-grandchildren had a college fund.

He loved his family very much. He was a man of integrity and he lived a full and good life. He will be deeply missed.

Rod was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; son Mike; sisters Bernice Croce, Dorothea Hayden and Cheryl Davis; and brother Edward.

Rod is survived by his son Randy Harris (Becky); daughter Debbie and husband David Wood; brother Robert Harris and wife Mickey; sisters-in-law Joanie Schwartz Leaver and Cathy Schwartz; grandsons Paul Harris, Dillon Wood and wife Kristyn, and Dalton Wood; great-grandchildren Liam, Edison, Adalee, James, Oliver, Cecilia and Penelope; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins around the country.

Graveside service will be on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends may share online condolences at www.harper-funeralhome.com.
