Ethel Nance Sanders

Mrs. Ethel Nance Sanders, age 100, of Whiteface, went to be with her Lord Jesus on April 27, 2021, at Brayden Park assisted living facility in San Angelo, TX. 
She was born February 13, 1921, at Old Emma, Crosby County, TX, a daughter of the late Alex Arthur Nance and Eunice Swinney Nance. She graduated Morton High School in 1939. She married Charles Luke Sanders on November 27, 1940, in Morton, TX, and celebrated 55 years of marriage. 
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Luke Sanders; one son, Bobby Sanders, and son-in-law Billy Wall. Siblings: Hiram Nance, Anna Bell Swanner, Lucille Brooks, Arthur Nance, Mary Rushing, Robert Nance, and Betty Massey. 
She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara Wall, Kathy Sanders, daughter-in-law, Nancy (Ray) Luper, Chrysti (Raymond) Love, and Gail (Kenny) Sifford. 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends. 
In Cochran County, where she resided until 2010, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morton and then First Baptist Church of Whiteface. 
In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a Whiteface school employee from 1964-1988. She enjoyed painting and upon retirement, Ethel took art classes at South Plains College, then private lessons with Sally Carter and Donnalita Schooler. During early retirement she continued interacting with children by doing private childcare in her home taking great joy in teaching the children “Jesus Loves Me” and other favorite songs. As a skilled seamstress, she made so many Easter dresses, costumes, and kept her 4 daughters fashionably dressed. She stayed active until the end by painting and creating hand embroidery pieces for her family. 
A special thank you to the staff of Brayden Park and Kindred Hospice for their compassionate care. 
A graveside service will be held privately at the Whiteface City Cemetery in Whiteface laying her to rest next to her husband. 
A Celebration of Life will be held in San Angelo on July 3, 2021.

Martin Esquivel "Lu Lu" Duarte

On April 24, 2021, Martin Esquivel “Lulu” Duarte, age 56, of Killeen, Texas, was called home by our Heavenly Father. Martin passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter and two of his grandchildren. 

Martin was born on August 11, 1964, in San Angelo, Texas to Ignacio Duarte, Sr. and Augustine Duarte. He attended school in San Angelo and resided there until the age of 25. He also met and married the love of his life and best friend, his wife Terrie, in San Angelo. They were married for 36 wonderful years, have one lovely daughter and five loving grandchildren.  

He honorably served his country from 1989 to 2013 beginning in the Army National Guard followed by enlisting for active duty in the U.S. Army. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During his years of military service, he earned several medals. His first duty station was in Baumholder, Germany followed by El Paso, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky and later Killeen, Texas, where he retired in 2013. Additionally, Martin served one tour in Operation Desert Storm Desert Shield and two tours in Iraq. 

He also worked for the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department, starting off as a Dispatcher then advancing to a Jailer. After relocating to Killeen, Martin successfully completed the Deputy Certification Program. During his active duty in Killeen, he volunteered his time off as a Deputy in Coryell County. He was proud to be a Deputy and of his achievements. 

Martin was an amazing husband, father and “Popo” who loved his family with all his heart. He was a provider for his family and was determined to give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything in the world. For those blessed to have known him, experienced his kind heart and his genuine soul. He was a gentleman with a smile to light up a room. 

His morning routine began with his passion of listening to Tejano music with the company of his beautiful wife as they enjoyed their morning coffee. He also enjoyed watching his “Cowboys” play as he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys football fan. He had a passion for life with a positive outlook and took pride in everything he did. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio Duarte, Sr. and Augustina Duarte; sisters Victoria Duarte, Virginia Espinoza, Belen Cruz, Bessie Dominguez, Bethsida Hernandez, Anita Duarte; brothers Isaias Duarte, Ismael Duarte, Ignacio Duarte, Jr., William Duarte, Frank Duarte, Moses Duarte, Albert Duarte and Isaac Duarte. 

Martin is survived by his loving wife, Terrie Duarte of Killeen; his daughter, Bianca Duarte of Killeen; his son-in-law, Vincent McDaniel of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; grandchildren: Martina, Vincent, Calvin, Martin, and Mason McDaniel. He is also survived by his sisters Elma Garcia of San Angelo and Grace Prieto of San Angelo; brothers Johnny Duarte of San Angelo and Manuel Duarte of San Angelo; sister-in-laws Aileen Hernandez of San Angelo, Thelma Flores of Midland and brother-in-laws Ronnie and Glenn Rodriquez of San Angelo; God sons: Edward Crisp and family of San Angelo, Eric Crisp and family of San Angelo, Joey and Ashley Anderson of San Angelo; A special niece Joann Gonzales of San Angelo, Texas and several nieces and nephews. 

The Rosary Service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2021, from 6 PM – 8 PM (2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, Texas). The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, May 03, 2021, at 10 AM (11 W. Avenue N, San Angelo, Texas).
