She married Willard West in June 1960 and lived in San Antonio, Texas City and Lubbock before relocating back to San Angelo. She worked in the administration building of SAISD for several years before joining Pool Well Services. She worked at Pool until her retirement in 2003. Nancy "Pat" was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Sibyl Bean, Juanita (Myra) Gotcher, Virginia ?Ginny' Stockman and Carolyn Cox. She leaves behind many to cherish her memory her children, Ramona and K.C. Hasty, Suzie West, Mason and Jennifer West; special nephew Mark and Amber Cox; grandchildren Michael, Jacob and Kathryn Hasty, Reagan and Jarrett Greer, Zach, Luke and Bailee West, Chelsea and Matt Hughes and Katy Grace, Marshall, Rachel and Mason Cox; great-grandson Jack Greer; brother Dave ?Bud' Cox; sisters and brothers-in-law J.T. and Shirley Hinson, Jimmy and Dru Gallemore and Faye Perkins; numerous nephews and nieces; best friends Elaine Baxter and Billie Smith; special friends Roland and Cheryl Howard, Tom and Carolyn Purkiss, and Rhonda Nixon; and furry little friend Charlie. Nancy "Pat" had a warm, loving spirit, was kind, easy-going, fun-loving, unpretentious and forgiving. Through her patience, kindness, and encouraging attitude, she had a knack for making everyone feel special, and was a positive presence in so many lives. She extended her love beyond her immediate family, providing comfort and guidance to numerous nephews, nieces and friends of the family. She was a life-long reader and learner, spending numerous hours a day reading about history and nature, while also enjoying fiction and staying on top of current events. Later in life, she had developed a passion for genealogy, spending countless hours learning about her heritage. She liked antiquing, estate sales and travelling with her friends, enjoying her many trips exploring the Hill Country of Texas, as well as the south and northeast United States. She was also very active in her church and loved the many friends she had made there. She learned to sew at an early age and became a skilled seamstress. While she had often made her own clothes, she especially liked making items for her friends and family, such as nursery bedding, curtains and Halloween costumes. She was most proud of the beautiful wedding and prom dresses she made for her granddaughters. Above all, she loved her family. Reunions were one of her favorite events and she was so happy she was able to attend her last one a week ago, seeing her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her life revolved around her kids and grandchildren, attending all of their birthdays, sporting events, graduations, recitals, and other important events. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, for which she spent the entire year budgeting and planning to ensure everyone received a personalized gift. Her fudge, peanut brittle, ?trash' and cinnamon candy will all be missed. She still had so many plans and was especially looking forward to spending time with her great grandson Jack who arrived only a month ago. She was so active and independent that those around her were often surprised to know her true age, and her quick passing is a shock to us all. But she was blessed to have been so healthy and active throughout her life and was truly grateful for the wonderful life she had. While she was never rich in a material sense, she built a fortune in love and goodwill among her family and many friends. While there are many heavy hearts today, and she will be forever missed, she leaves behind a great legacy of love and kindness that will be carried forward by those that knew and loved her.

Gonzales Eloisa Moya

09/02/2014 - 13:05 , by johnb

Eloisa "PeeWee" Moya Gonzales, 81, of San Angelo, TX, went to be with our Heavenly Father on August 22, 2014, in her home surrounded by her beloved family. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was born in San Angelo, TX on June 10, 1933 to Luis Moya and Agnes Estrada. She was affectionately known to many as "PeeWee" and she was a beautiful person inside and out. She was married to Pete C. Gonzales on January 1, 1950 and enjoyed a 20 year military life with travels throughout Europe and the US. She was filled with the Holy Spirit and used every opportunity to witness and spread the word of her Lord and Savior. She was an avid golfer with the Bentwood Women's Association and loved to dance. She is preceded in death by her parents Luis and Agnes, and her brother Luis Moya Jr. Survivors include her husband Pete C Gonzales, two sons, Jimmie Gonzales and wife Sylvia, of Duncanville, TX, and Sammy Gonzales and wife Nancy, of San Angelo, TX; sister Corina Charles and husband Greg of San Angelo; brothers Richard Moya and wife Irene of San Angelo; and Ray Moya and wife Linda of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Richard Gonzales, Christopher Gonzales, Danny Moya, Jeffrey Lopez, Mario Lopez, Sean Arocha, Nathan Rodriguez, and Christopher Riojas. Over the years, PeeWee was afflicted with many medical issues. The family wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses that attended to her needs, especially Dr. Ty Hughston, Dr. Luis Duarte and Dr. Walter Rustmann. The family would also like to acknowledge the special care given by Hospice of San Angelo, especially her attending nurses Debbie and Jenni ("Curly"). In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to Hospice of San Angelo. "Don't grieve for me, for now I am free, I am free. I am following the path that God has laid, you see, I took His hand when I heard Him call. I turn my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work, to play. Task left undone, must stay that way. If parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. Of friendships shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things too I will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've favored much, good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seems all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. God wanted me now, He set me free!" "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course." II Timothy 4:7

Minton Carolyn Brock

09/02/2014 - 11:42 , by johnb

Carolyn Grachia Brock (Minton) was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Nov. 3, 1926. She was the daughter of a Southern mother Grachia King, and a Canadian father, O. Carlyle Brock. Carolyn has one younger brother, who resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Their mother died when Carolyn was 11 and Carl was four. Their father died in 1987. Carolyn was educated in parochial schools: Villa Maria Academy and Mercyhurst Academy. She also attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and Emerson School of Dramatic Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her first A.B. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a second A.B. degree and an M.A. degree from Angelo State University. Later she earned more graduate hours at U.T. Austin, where she received a D.O.D. Fellowship. She married Robert M. Minton Jr. Dec. 30, 1947, which she said, "Was the smartest decision she ever made in her life." The couple had four children: Cynthia Maureen Spence, Rhonda Carolyn Pope, Robert Brock Minton and Randall Mark Minton. They also have four grandchildren and their spouses: Kenneth Land and his wife, Suzanne, Stephanie Grachia Shull, Cherilyn Acevedo and Tamara Currie and her husband, Chase. There are also seven great-grandchildren: Alyssa Land, Cobey Land, River Shull, Kirsten Grachia Shull, Angelina Acevedo, Carolyn Currie and Lauren Currie. Every election day, Carolyn called her children and grandchildren, "Have you voted Republican yet?" A lifelong Republican, Carolyn was the second president of the Concho Valley Republican Women's Club. She was also the first person to run a district wide phone bank out of Tom Green County: first for Ronald Reagan, later for William P. Clements, Lamar Smith, Drew Darby and others. Carolyn taught English and History at Lee Junior High and English, Social Studies and Special Education at San Angelo Central High School. Other recent memberships included: Pocahontas Chapter, DAR (where she served as Regent, Chairman Division #8), and Texas Historian of TSDAR. She also served on the Executive Boards of Historic San Angelo, Rolling Hills Garden Club, ACH Auxiliary, Angelo Civic Theater, Newtimers, Victory Study Club and many organizations in Midland, where she was founder of the Contemporary Study Club. She is also an Associate Member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas and United Daughters of the Confederacy. Carolyn's Father, O. Carlyle Brock, was involved in many Masonic activities including serving as Imperial Potentate of Shrine (AANOMS) in 1964. During his term of office, he dedicated three of the Burn Centers, the first being in Galveston, Texas. The other two were in Boston and in Cincinnati. Carolyn was present at the Shrine Hospital Board meeting in Phoenix, Arizona when the charter was signed to finance the Burn Centers. The Burn Centers prompted Carolyn's interest in organ donation. She encouraged the Angelo Community Hospital Auxiliary to promote a drive, in which over 2,000 donors signed up. For this project, ACH received the prestigious HAVE Award (Hospital Award for Volunteer Excellence). Carolyn accepted awards in Toronto and Chicago. There were also a number of Texas awards given for this project. Carolyn traveled to over 90 countries during her lifetime, including a trip with an educational delegation to China in 1975. This was before the United States had signed diplomatic relations with China. The changes in China in the past 27 years are unbelievable. Interest was so great that Carolyn gave over 50 presentations in Texas during 1975 and 1976. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Portis Ribble officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. I am home in heaven, dear ones,
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed.
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
There is still work waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand.
Do it now, while life remaineth,
you shall rest in God's own land.
When that work is completed,
He will gently call you home.
Ah, the rapture of that meaning,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Allen William Arthur

09/02/2014 - 11:27 , by johnb

Husband. Father. Son. Brother. Uncle, Unkie, Unk. Friend. Favored Teacher. Model Student. Patriot. Veteran. Storyteller. Minstrel. Jester. Life of the Party. Man of God. From a childhood of ups and downs through the Bronx, confronted by the many challenges of that era, Bill found his way through those times, and through the stories he experienced and learned to tell, lived a life that made all those around him better and happier and made sure his beautiful bride and the blessed family they raised never wanted for anything. Through the cultures he met and embraced and the leadership he exemplified through his career in the Air Force and afterwards in the civil service, he paved a path that led the way to a better life for many. Through travels in retirement with Celeste and many friends, they enjoyed Greece, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Czech Republic, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Alaska; his ability to make a friend anywhere and tell a story were proven over and over. In fact, the only thing Bill liked better than telling a story, was telling a story twice. Annual Easter gatherings in Junction, Texas, where the San Antonio and San Angelo military families picnicked regardless of weather, were favored storytelling times. The annual gathering of the same clans to celebrate Chinese New Year, either in San Angelo or San Antonio, added to the lore. Family travels for a Christmas in Seaside, Florida, to the Texas Coast and to Charleston, South Carolina, made for wonderful memories, new friends and more stories. Through the faith that he lived and taught, he created a way that led so many to the church he loved and lived. Through the true joy of life he exemplified in everything he did, he lived his life out loud, enabling all of us around him to do the same. Through his unwavering commitment to family and friends, he made sure we all knew we mattered. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Gertrude Steele Allen; his sisters, Roberta "Bobbie" Grosso and Patricia "Pat" Domon; his brother, Donald Allen; and too many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife, Celeste B. Allen of San Angelo; his daughters Jane Allen of Flower Mound, Texas, and Maura Gast and her husband, Marty, of Flower Mound; numerous nieces and nephews; and his extended military family. He began his career in the Air Force in July 1951, and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. His career in the military as a Chinese linguist included assignments in the Republic of Philippines; Republic of China in Taiwan; Hong Kong; South Korea; Germany; North Africa/French Morocco; Bangkok, Thailand; Oregon; Washington; Fort Meade, Maryland; Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi; and Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo. Among the awards and decorations he received for his service were the: National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award; Air Force Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; and Army Occupation Medal. Following his retirement from active duty in the Air Force on Nov. 1, 1971, as Master Sergeant, he went back to school, receiving his Bachelor of Arts (1973) and then Masters of Arts (1975) from Angelo State University. He worked at the Texas Employment Commission, helping counsel job seekers and connecting employers with candidates. He returned to Goodfellow Air Force Base in the civil service, serving as the first Wing historian, registrar, training development chief, training advisor and flight commander. He was recognized with several awards and commendations during this service including: the Civilian Commendation Award- Air Training Command; and the Department of Air Force Performance Award for three consecutive years. He retired again in 1997, after a combined 37 years of military and civil service. In retirement, Bill did not sit still. He joined the Concho Cadre, welcoming businesses, groups and visitors to the San Angelo community and was recognized as the Concho Cadre Newcomer of the Year. Wednesday mornings were usually held for coffee with fellow military retirees, where stories were told and the world's problems solved. It was at Holy Angels Catholic Church, however, where his greatest energies were committed in his retirement. He served as lay presider of the Liturgy of the Word, team member for the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program and participated in the hospital ministry which brought Communion to patients. He and Celeste were regulars at the daily 8:30 a.m. Mass. The American Indian Prayer was a favorite of his and he used it when he presided at this Liturgy. His wife, Celeste, was the love of his life. His children, Jane and Maura, the apples of his eye. His was a life of faith, of joy, of hope, of servant leadership, of heart. Well done, good and faithful servant.
