Richard James Bain, Sr.
(November 1936-January 28, 2016)
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15)
Our God called Richard James Bain, Sr. home to heaven on January 28, 2016). He was preceded in death by his parents Claude Rankin Bain and Grace Wells Bain. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bain, daughter Joni Reese and son-in-law Kent Reese of Andrews TX, granddaughter Roseann Webb and her husband Greg of San Angelo TX, Kent Reese, Jr. and his wife Kaleena of Nashville TN, son Richard Bain, Jr, daughter-in-law Pam Bain, and grandson Caleb Bain of Silsbee TX, grandson Joshua Bain, his wife Michele, and great-grandchildren Josiah and Mayli of Moscow TX, and granddaughter Lynsi Murphy and her husband Andrew of Garland TX. He is also survived by siblings Gwen Cole, Helen Craig, June Perkins, Francis Shipman, Curtis Bain, Alvin Bain, and a great many nieces, nephews, beloved friends, colleagues, and former students. Richard's greatest passions were serving Jesus and loving his family. One of his favorite verses is 3 John 1:4, "I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk with the Lord." He is now walking the streets of heaven with Jesus and is waiting for us "on the far side banks of the Jordan" (a lyric from one of his favorite gospel songs). Richard's legacy of faith is nearly matched by the legacy of lives he changed through his life's work as an educator. He inspired everyone he taught to set goals and achieve their dreams. Richard Bain graduated second in his class at Barksdale TX High School in 1955 and received his bachelor's and M. Ed. from Sul Ross State University, where he graduated with honors. After obtaining his E. D. D. (Doctorate) from the University of Houston, he worked with the Texas Education Agency then served as Dean of Education at Sul Ross for many years. He then served as Asst. Superintendent and Superintendent at Monahans TX ISD before moving on to Andrews TX ISD as Assistant Superintendent. Richard and Pat moved to San Angelo to enjoy their retirement but both soon found themselves teaching in the Education Department at Angelo State University. Richard retired from ASU in 2014 and poured his time and energy into serving the Lord as a deacon at Glen Meadows Baptist in San Angelo. He was bold and compassionate in sharing his faith at every opportunity, especially through the jail ministry. Two services will be held. The first will be Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Meadows Baptist Church, 6002 Knickerbocker Road, San Angelo TX. Johnson's Funeral home of San Angelo is handling the arrangements. You may post messages to the family in their on-line guest book if desired. A second service will be held in Richard's hometown on Tuesday, February 2, at 10:00 at Barksdale Baptist Church, 200 Church Street, Barksdale TX. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Barksdale Cemetery in Barksdale TX. Nelson Funeral home of Camp Wood TX is handling the arrangements for the service in Barksdale

Jo Chriesman

01/31/2016 - 18:52 , by johnb

Jo Chriesman, 83, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, Jan. 28 at her home. Graveside dedication is at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 1 in Fairmount Cemetery. Bishop Frank Drake will officiate. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Johnson's Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Frances "Fran" Perdue and her father Robert Chriesman. She was loved and will be missed by her brother Robert Perdue and wife Chi; sister Julie Newman and partner Sally Tallmon; nephew Brian Newman and niece Liza Perdue; great-nephews Kyle and Zak Newman; great-niece Samanta Perdue; lifelong best friend Peggy Morrison and her son Scott; and kitty cat Blossom.

Throughout her life Jo experienced success in her work life. She was employed by GTE for over 40 years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she excelled at teaching Primary children.

To say Jo was selfless would be an understatement. Instead of continuing her education after graduating from San Angelo College she went to work to support her mother and siblings. Cultured and extremely intelligent, she infused us with her love for opera, classical and international music. She gave generously, had a passion for animal and environmental causes, and the Metropolitan Opera. Jo had a steel trap memory of the finest details such that every encounter she ever had with those in her life were significant and important. Socially at ease and adept at conversation one could always find a feisty and amiable encounter with her.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ty Hughston and Dr. Vayden Stanley; Shannon Home Health, especially Deanna and Donna; Gentiva Hospice; her steadfast sister and brother in the church, Trish and Herb, and caregiver Angie. Sally Tallmon's devotion and loving care in Jo's latter days gave her reason to look forward to waking up every morning.

In lieu of flowers, Jo would request memorials be made to Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue of San Angelo, or the Metropolitan Opera.
